We're talking about the blonde baby in pink. |
We're also talking about the baby in pink and white, on the right in this photo. |
These dolls were 'adopted' from the Lee Middleton factory store in Belpre,Ohio. Both are about 20 inches tall, and were designed by Reva Schick.
The blonde baby with brown eyes, wearing pink,is Lori's.
The brunette doll with blue eyes was Norma's.
Lori decided to get the blonde with brown eyes, because her mom wanted a brunette baby with blue eyes.
Norma didn't drive, and had been wanting Lori to drive her to Belpre to adopt a doll for quite a while. The 'adoption' was complete with all the ceremony. Norma had her picture taken in the 'nursery' with her new baby.
There had been reasons Lori hadn't been able to take Norma before, but they finally managed to make the trip. That was on September 7,2001. The next day,Norma and Bruce, Lori's dad, took a trip to visit relatives . It was only about an hour and a half trip. On the way home Bruce suffered a heart attack. He actually died, and the car crashed into a telephone pole. The jolt restarted his heart, bringing Bruce back to life. Norma, however, passed away in the accident.
Norma's death managed to save two other lives. Because of her death on Saturday,September 8th,her granddaughter's husband didn't make a business trip he was supposed to go on. His carpool partner also didn't go, because she had no ride. The business trip was to an office in the Twin Towers on September 11th.
I always tell Lori that she will always be glad she took Norma to Belpre that day, and made her so happy. She will always know that she did that for her mother. It was a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but it was the last thing they did together, and she has pictures of her mother with her 'baby' and a big smile on her face.
Those are today's dolls. See you tomorrow.
Thank you so much for sharing this touching story. What a bittersweet memory for Lori. Thanks also for sharing her beautiful Lee Middleton baby dolls. I’m not much into baby dolls, but these two are especially nice.
ReplyDeletePoor Miss Norma, talk about ironic that she'd die and he'd live even though he had the heart attack! That's an interesting story, though, especially since her passing saved two lives. Regarding the dolls...oh, how I love Lee Middleton babies! They have the sweetest little faces. I'm glad you shared these!
ReplyDeleteI probably should have said three lives. Since her grandson-in-law wasn't killed in the Twin Towers, he lived to father a great grandson Norma never got to meet. He's a teenager now,and a very nice kid.
DeleteSooo sad story, I am so touched. Sometimes I think that nothing really happens for a reason, everything has a purpose and fate leads us in his own way :)
ReplyDeleteThank You for sharing this story :)
I think you are right. I feel the same way sometimes.
DeleteWhat an amazing story.
ReplyDeleteWOW what a story behind this, so sad and yet it has it's positive side too.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely that the lady got to see her baby doll though.
x
That's my belief system, not necessarily everything happens for a reason (though I think a lot of things do) but if its your time, its your time. I am glad Lori at least got to keep her Dad and her last memory with her mother is doing something that she really wanted to do.
ReplyDeleteNot many people get the opportunity to have such a good last memory. I love the Lee dolls too, they are just so realistic!
