Doll-A-Day 230:The X Files Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, Plus a Review of MiWorld Mrs. Field Accessory Set Collector Pack

Yesterday we had a look at the MiWorld Dairy Queen treats accessory pack. Today we'll be reviewing the MiWorld Mrs. Fields accessory pack.  I'll show the items to you with a variety of different sized dolls, but the doll(s) for today are inspired by the suggestion of Ashley at Confessions of a Doll Collector's Daughter, (Check out the blog.), that action figures are best sized for the MiWorld play sets,(making the sets  approximately 1/12, or dollhouse scale.). It's Fox Mulder and Dana Scully from The X-Files.

The Mulder and Scully figures were released in 1998, to coincide with the release of the first X-Files movie, "Fight the Future". (Which, for the record, I didn't think was that bad. And at least it followed the mythology, which the second movie just sort of ignored. What happened in between the last episode of the series and the second movie?! I thought the aliens were about to take over the world?! We come into the second movie and no one seems worried about the alien take over any more.WHAT HAPPENED?!)
You have to love the little tiny FBI badges.

They also came with a few tiny accessories, like guns and flashlights, and a few big ones, like alien bodies and slimey capsules to keep them in.

These X-Files figures were made by McFarlane Toys, which are usually really good with their sculpts. These are pretty good likenesses of David Duchovny, who played Mulder, and Gillian Anderson, who played Scully.

Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully and David Duchovny as Fox Mulder in The X-Files.

They're much better than the Barbie and Ken X-Files set. They didn't bother to do a David Duchovny or Gillian Anderson sculpt. They didn't even use the sculpt they had that looked the most like Gillian Anderson. I think they should have used the Lea head mold. They used it on the Vitamin C doll, and that is what showed me she would have made a great Scully.
Vitamin C doll with the Lea head mold.

There were a couple of different Mulder figures in the line, as well as a couple of Scully's and some aliens.
"What? No Cigarette Smoking Man?"

The Scully figure is pretty good, as I said.

Unfortunately, as is common with action figures, McFarlane's female sculpts look a little manly.
Let's have a big hand for the little lady...oh. She already has TWO of them!

Mulder stands 6" tall, so lets try him out with the Mrs. Fields goodies and see how he 'measures up'.
First of all, here's the unopened package.

And here are the items fresh out of the pack.

And here they are out of their plastic.
A drink,a Mrs. Fields bag, 6 cookies, and a sheet of stickers.Ivy's immediate reaction was that the cookies are all identical. They could have varied the placement of the chips a bit.

I put one of the stickers on the cup, but there are 5 more. Was I supposed to sticker the cookies?
Unlike the MiWorld set we looked at yesterday, these items seem to definitely all be the same scale.

Unfortunately it's 1/6 scale.

Sorry little man. This stuff looks a bit big for you.

"It's plastic Mulder. You really will taste anything, won't you?"
You might get away with those cookies, but that drink? No way. It's even too big to be a Big Gulp.
So let's see how it looks with a 1/6 scale doll, like Wally World,(previously a Mattel Disney Prince Charming doll.)

What do you think Wally?

"Hey Dad, can I have a cookie? Or are you showing them to "The People"?

They look the right size with Tammy World too. She has the older body of Barbie's sister Stacie. She's about 8" tall.

And they look fine with an older Kelly, (Barbie's littlest sister.)

So even though these sets are for refilling your MiWorld playsets, (Which are approximately 1/12 or dollhouse scale.),these accessory packs, at least, do seem to be more 1/6 scale than 1/12. Mind you, I did pick the accessory sets that felt (through the package) to be closer to 1/6, because that's what I wanted. Some of the other sets seemed to be smaller. That's fine for someone who knows to check the size out first. But what about kids who buy the packs for their little MiWorld sets? It may not make that much difference to kids if the pieces are to scale, but why make accessory sets for one of your product lines and not make them the right size? Also, the cookies aren't quite as realistic as the drinks. The drinks have all been very good. The cookies though could have been done a little better. Those painted on chips are too uniform and they look painted on.The MiWorld accessory sets are still a nice, cheaper, (albeit not as realistic) alternative to Rement. And I love the little Mrs. Fields bag, but just about anybody can print one of those out on their computer these days. I don't think the items included in this set are as good a value for the $2.99 as the set I reviewed yesterday. That set included 6 plastic pieces, including a Blizzard dessert,a milk shake, an Orange Julius drink, an Arctic Rush drink, and two sundaes. This set includes 6 plastic cookies, which cost next to nothing to produce, I'm sure, one drink, and a paper bag, which REALLY cost next to nothing to produce. I think they should have thrown in a second drink or an additional dessert, like a brownie or something.Maybe even both for the price. That would have been more equal to the DQ set.So, probably an ok value, considering everything is overpriced these days, but it could have been better. But there's still the problem that they aren't to scale for the set they're intended for. You have the facts. Make up your own minds.

Doll-A-Day 229: So In Style Kara Plus a Reveiw of MiWorld Dairy Queen Treat Set Collector Pack

Today's doll will be assisting me in my review of the MiWorld Dairy Queen Treat Set Collector Pack. She's So In Style Concert Kara.

I was looking for a doll to use for size comparison with the MiWorld set, and to use as Doll of the Day, so I wanted a doll in all her original garb, so she was recognizable. I waited until late tonight because I was watching tv with Ivy, so to help me out, Ivy grabbed one of her dolls that was easily accessible. Kara is who she came up with, and I thought she fit the criteria: all original clothes. Why, Ivy was even able to find her other shoe at the last minute. Then when I looked her up so I could say what series she's from, I find that she is, indeed, Concert Kara, but she's wearing Concert Trichelle's clothes and shoes! Oh well. At least the doll and shoes are both from the same series! (And knowing Ivy's room, who knows where poor Trichelle is!)

Trichelle's shoes with built in leg warmers. They're split up the back so they go on and off easily.

All the dolls in this series wore similar dresses in different colours. Kara's dress is gold or orange from what I can tell from photograph's, since Ivy has gone to bed and probably couldn't find it anyway.
The So In Style dolls, or S.I.S. dolls were first produced in 2009 I believe. They were created by a lady named  Stacey McBride Irby. There were originally 3 dolls, Grace, Trichelle, and... Chandra? (Somebody help me here. There is precious little information out there about these dolls! I'm going from memory, as Ivy was obsessed with getting all these dolls in her oh so far away youth. (She's almost 15 now.) I remember there were 3 girls, and they later added another. I can't remember if the last addition was Kara or Chandra. They also later added little sisters, Courtney, Janessa, and Kianna, which used the long thin body of Barbie's current littlest sister, Chelsea. Eventually there was a little brother, (Not sure who's brother he was.), named Julian. There was even a guy named Darren. He didn't get is own head mold, as the girls did though. He borrowed Ken's friend Steven's head. I think we ended up with multiples of the older girls,(Ivy has a billion of them.), all the children, but somehow no Darren.
I never noticed, until I looked at these pictures, that Kara has a painted hairline on her forehead. My mom had a hairline like that and she hated it. I'm not sure if it makes Kara look more real or not, since the other hair is rooted. In a way it looks like her head is dirty.

Make your way over to the table Kara and see what we have for you.

Have a seat.
Her legs are q hard plastic that doesn't even bend. I see we put that shoe that was found at the last moment on a little, uh...badly.

So here's our review item for today. It's the MiWorld Dairy Queen accessory pack.

I love the MiWorld sets. They came with so much cool little stuff. I didn't buy one though, because it wasn't in the budget at the time. (When they were available around here.) They were in with the clearance stuff at our Walmart, but they weren't marked down, just discontinued. When I found out they were discontinued I was disappointed. It seemed like such a nice line, with so many play possibilities. But I found this accessory set, along with several others at Toys R Us last week. That was out of town, so maybe it's just around here that they aren't being carried.

Here's the set as it comes out of the package.

These were a pretty good deal at $2.99.

The drinks and desserts in the set come without labels...

...but you're provided with stickers so you can finish them up. I only put stickers on one side, even though you are supplied with two. that way the dolls can be at Dairy Queen, or somewhere else. It probably won't make much difference though, as you'll see from the pictures, that even though I only put the stickers on a few days ago, they are already coming off. I don't see them sticking through play.

Before...

...and after.

I tried to feel the stuff through the package to see what size it was. There seems to be some straying from scale with the MiWorld stuff.

As you can see from Kara's hands near them, some of the things are 1/6, or play scale, the perfect size for fashion dolls like the So In Style girls and Barbie.

The Orange Julius, the chocolate milk shake, and the Arctic Rush seem to be just right, but the Blizzard looks a little small. And the sundaes seem tiny. (Ivy says maybe they are children's cups!) Ok, we'll test that theory out.

I guess those sundaes look ok with Tammy. I'm sure she'd prefer them bigger though!

Tammy is trying to ignore that chocolate milkshake, but I know it's her favourite. (Actually, when I was a kid I always ordered a cherry snow cone.)

Eeny meeny miney...Oh forget it. Where's the chocolate milk shake?! I think the straws should have been white or something. The sticker is coming off that Blizzard, and I only just pressed them back down before I took the pictures.

How about the old Kelly dolls?

Are milk shakes and Orange Julius's really a third of the size of a toddler? Wow.

Here they are with a 1/12 scale (6" tall) dollhouse man, which is more the size the actual MiWorld sets are made for.

"What am I grabbing? I can't see through this giant collar."

Most of the pieces look way too big for him, but the sundaes look pretty good. Maybe the Blizzard. (He got the Jumbo size...) So, conclusion? These are nice, fairly realistic looking goodies, but I think they work much better for 1/6 scale than the set they are actually meant for. They're a much cheaper alternative to the expensive Rement sets. (Which, granted, are absolutely awesome.) They're way more affordable than Rement for their target audience, which is children.
Tomorrow we'll see another doll and another review.
