Doll-A-Day 2019 #181: Design My Style Carrie

First of all,the sales page is up! It's actually been up for a couple of days, but I keep forgetting to mention it. It can be found at the top of the right sidebar area under the heading 'Dolls and accessories for sale'. There are quite a few things listed already, but ,trust me, there are about a zillion more things I could add! (And I will eventually.)
An update on our kittens: It looks like Merlin and maybe Thalberg have homes already. That still leaves beautiful little Mordred,Fred, and George who need homes. Also the mommies need homes too. everybody seems to have thumbs except possibly Mordred, and Fred and George both have back feet thumbs as well!
The heat here has been almost too much to bear without air conditioning. When there's no escape at all, it gets to the point where it wears on your health and sanity. Those who can work outside, and then go into a cool house and sip an icy drink in comfort, have no idea how the constant heat can make you feel after a while. I'm nauseous, and weak. I have no energy at all,and have to drag myself to do anything. I have been trying to make sure I drink liquids, but there's only so much I can hold! Any movement away from a fan causes the sweat to pour uncontrollably. I only hope the heat breaks soon.Lori says it isn't this bad in Georgia!
Now onto today's doll. Yesterday we saw the modern version of Holly Hobbie. (You can see my post on the original small vinyl Holly and friends dolls and the history of the character's origins, HERE. You can see my post on the original 10" vinyl doll HERE.) Today we're going to look at her friend,Carrie Baker.

Like the Holly we saw yesterday, Carrie is from the Design My Style series, made by Mattel in 2006.

She's 12 inches tall.

You may have seen my post on the miniature version of Carrie. That Carrie was a tiny version of this girl, with different clothes. My Carrie,as you can see, has borrowed the clothes from my spare Holly.

This was necessary because she was naked when I got her. She would have looked like this in her box.

She does still have her original hair style though.

Like Holly, Carrie has a sweet face.

They don't share a sculpt, but they are close enough that they are obviously from the same series.

The original Holly Hobbie Carrie wasn't African American. It was obviously decided that more ethnic diversity was necessary when Holly was resurrected for the modern era. I'm glad they made this Carrie. She is so cute.

That's the doll for today. See you again tomorrow.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #180: Design My Style Holly Hobbie

Today we're having a look at a modern version of an old favourite.

She's Holly Hobbie, but an updated modern version.

This is Design My Style Holly Hobbie.

This version of Holly Hobbie was made by Mattel in 2006.

She's 12 inches tall.

There were three dolls in the series,Holly, and her friends Amy Morris and Carrie Baker.

This is Holly's original outfit, minus her shoes.

She has jeans,with fake patches...

Her jeans have an attached faux suede belt and close in the back with Velcro.

She's wearing a ruffled blouse with another faux patch. It also closes in the back with Velcro.

She also has a a newsboy cap, with more patches and a heart shaped button.

Her other accessory is a friendship bracelet.

The Design My Style dolls came with an activity kit that "lets girls create with beads, sequined stickers or tie-dye art for the dolls' fashions and a furniture accessory". I have no idea what their furniture accessory was.

There were also fashion packs sold for the dolls.

Holly is jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips. Her head can tilt side to side and upward a bit.

Her arms can lift up and down, as well as out to the sides, and they can rotate.

I have two of these. This girl loaned her clothes to another doll. She was the doner because she didn't have a hat anyway. Her hair is curlier though.
She has a load of curly hair.

She has bend knees, but they don't bend very far.

Her leg joints allow her legs to move in some ways that allow for interesting posing.

And she has huge feet.

When I was trying to photograph the poses with the naked one I thought she looked like a fairy or a wood sprite,so she posed fairly modestly in nature.

The modern Holly dolls lack some of the charm of the old fashioned original Holly dolls. But they are cute in their own right.

For some of my other posts on vintage and modern Holly Hobbie dolls, check for 'Holly Hobbie' in the sidebar.
That's the doll for today. Tomorrow we'll see a Holly Hobbie friend.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #179: Mechanical Russian Lady

It's amazingly hot today. It's 89 degrees Farenheit, but it feels hotter. It makes me have trouble breathing and I have no strength at all. We don't have air conditioning,so there's no escape.
In looking for the travel dolls I came across a lot of interesting dolls I haven't looked at for a while. One such doll is this lady.

IS she a doll,or is she a toy? Can she be both? She's made of metal.

She's still a travel doll I suppose. She's obviously meant to be Russian, but I don't see any writing on her anywhere.

She has a wind-up feature.

Once I had fitted her key back in I wound her up. She has wheels.

When wound up she rolls forward, stops, spins, and then rolls forward again.

Her had can tilt from side to side. I wonder if it originally tilted as she rolled.

I think I might keep this one.I like her alot, and she reminds me of toys we had as kids. Oh...I said toy. Is she a doll or a toy?!

That's the doll, (Or is she a toy?!),for today. See you again tomorrow.
