Doll-A-Day #362: Made to Move Barbie

  I already have a Made to Move Barbie, but I like her, and didn't want to rip her head off. But I need a very fair complexion articulated body for Tammy World's mom, Dolly. I didn't want to pay a fortune ordering one online. I finally found this one in a store not too long ago. Ken got her for me for Christmas.

Her box says 'You can be anything', and apparently, she wants to be a tennis player.

She has a tennis outfit on.

And she comes with a visor, tennis racquet, and tennis ball.

 

The ball has a littl hole, and the racquet has a little peg, so the ball can be made to stay on the racquet.

 

  And of course, being a Made to Move, she can, well...move. Or pose at least.

  She's not ugly, but I don't mind losing her head, (Ha). I'm not a fan of big eyebrows anyway.

Doll-A-Day #359: Chinese Sword Dance Doll

I love this doll. She's beautiful, and interesting. She's a doll representing Chinese sword dancing.

  She is actually from China, as her tag shows.

She has two swords, as they are Chinese hook swords, which are used as a pair.

 

Wikipedia says: "The hook sword, twin hooks, fu tao, hu tou gou (tiger head hook) or shuang gou (Chinese: 鈎 or 鉤; pinyin: Gōu) is a Chinese weapon traditionally associated with northern styles of Chinese martial arts and Wushu weapons routines, but now often practiced by southern styles as well."

  Click the Wikipedia link above to read the full article. There isn't much known for sure about hook swords. They may or may not have been used in the military, but probably not. They may be from this region or that.  They may be ancient, or more recent. Geez.

  Her pose, with one foot in the air behind her, is one typically seen in pictures of Chinese sword dances.

She is wearing a silk outfit, with top, trousers, and skirt.

There's a lot of decoration on her clothes. I'm not sure if it's painted, or decal of some sort.

 

She has little black shoes with white soles.

She's about 8 or 9 inches tall, and attached to a wooden base.

I'm not sure what her hair is made of. It's twisted into two buns and decorated with sqiggly gold thread.

It has a stitched part.

She kind of reminds me of Bernadette Peters.

She has a delicate little face, with soft sculpture features.

  Before I accidentally erased this whole post, (!!!), I had a link to a good site about Chinese sword dancing. Now I can't find it. It just doesn't show up when you search 'Chinese sword dance'. 

  Ivy and I both have some Chinese dolls with similarly made faces. In fact, this sword dance doll looks like an older version of THIS GIRL of Ivy's or  THIS GIRL. of mine. .They both have the same soft sculptured faces and hair made of the same stuff...whatever that is.

  359! We're nearly there! This may be the first Doll-A-Day to not miss any days at all! My sister keeps telling me I should just forget it and say, oh well. But I am so close to accomplishing what I said I was going to do, in spite of everything that happened this year. And I am going to do it! 

Doll-A-Day 2023 #357: I.Q.

I posted two other Honeyhill Bunch dolls today. This is the third and last for the day. She's I.Q..

IQ is one of my favourites in the series, and I didn't even remember that I have her! I found her at the house recently.

She's one of the smaller Honeyhill Bunch dolls, at 4 inches tall.

She has her vest, but is missing her accessory, a book. The book was made of nylon cloth, and actually could be opened and had (unprinted) cloth pages. Her slogan on her box was "I always get straight A's in school."

She also still has her sunglasses, on top of her head.

I think they're the same sunglasses Mattel used for the P.J. dolls, part of the Barbie line.

  I have read at least one thing that suggested I.Q. is a boy. Because she's smart and carries a book? The Honeyhill Bunch paper dolls show the boys wearing bottom clothing only, while the girls, including I.Q. wear one piece clothing with a top. The clothes provided for I.Q. have been described as  being more boyish, but really, denim pantsuits were totally worn by girls in the 70's. The other clothes included a pair of mint green footie pajamas, a sailor suit, with hat, and polka dot shirt, and a green suit, with shorts and knee socks. So you decide.

 

  I.Q. seems to have been part of the first wave of Honeyhill Bunch dolls.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #213: Classmates Be Yourself Doll

    Today's doll is, I'm pretty sure, a Classmates Be Yourself Doll. 

 She's wearing different clothes than the Classmates Be Yourself doll I found online, but she's marked Berenguer, and is otherwise the same doll as the one I saw.

  The Classmates Be Yourself line came out in 2004. There were at least six dolls in the series: today's doll, a strawberry blonde with blue eyes, a blonde with braids and cute side glance blue eyes, a blonde with blue eyes and double ponytails, an African American doll with double ponytails, and a brown haired doll with brown eyes. There may have been more.

  The doll is 11 inches tall.

She just has the standard five points of articulation, neck, shoulders, and hips.

I'm not sure what's going on with this outfit. I would have said ballerina, if it hadn't been for the long drawers.

  Her black hair was originally pulled into a side ponytail.

 

 She has inset, not painted eyes.

They're very dark, and if there's any detail in those iris', I can't see it.

  One thing about her that I don't care for is her eyebrows. They have very little detail and don't look realistic.

She has nice painted detail in her lips though.

    From the back of the box I saw online, these were scented dolls. I got mine second hand, and I have never noticed her having a scent.
