Doll-A-Day 2023 #25: Knickerbocker 'Cradle Purse and Doll' Doll

   Today's doll is a tiny one Emma has in her 'stuff to sell' stash. He's this kid.

He's a Cradle Purse and Baby doll.

He was made by Knickerbocker, in 1978.

For some reason his copyright says 'Morgan Inc.'

He originally came with a cradle shaped purse that he could lay in. You can see a picture of one of these dolls with their original box and cradle purse HERE.

He measures about 3 and a half inches tall.

He's all cloth, except for his face.

He even has little cloth hands.

He has painted eyes and a very pink mouth.

There's a little bit of rooted air peaking out from under his hat. 

It looks like it might have been chopped though.

Doll-A-Day #15 18 Inch Baby...and She's Free!

   Today's doll is another freebie! She's another childhood doll of the lady who would like to find good homes for her dolls, and is offering them for free. She has offered them to me free of shipping, but as we are still cleaning up from the fire, moving things around and rescuing and cleaning a lot of our own stuff, I really don't have anywhere to put more dolls right now. Since she will be shipping the dolls out individually instead, I do worry it will run her to more money than she's expecting. I hope not. It would be nice if you offered her something for postage if you adopt one or more of her kids. But she has not asked for anything. I will be keeping one tiny thing from the things this lady has, and I'll show you that in a minute. In the meantime, here's today's girl, She's this sweet baby.

She's so cute. I love her cozy footie pajamas!

She was measured by her owner at about 19 inches tall. But she is marked 18 5S2, so the 18 may be a reference to her size. Sometimes it's hard to know when measuring dolls: Do you mash the hair down? Do you measure to the top of poufy hair? I have an idea that her curl hair may have added that inch to her height, as when older dolls were marked this way, it's usually in reference to their size. For example, 1950's Ideal Shirley Temple dolls were marked ST, and then the height for that particular size doll, as Shirley came in various sizes.

Plus the toes of those jammies can be confusing too. As you can see, she has sleep eyes.

As I said, she's marked 18 5S2. There's no makers mark. (Of course there's no Maker's Mark! She's too young to drink!)

  I looked up the markings though, and found that she's an Allied Grand/Eastern doll. I still don't know which one, but she's definitely by Allied Grand/Eastern.

  She also comes with this collection of clothes. Except for the little gloves. Those are the only things I requested to keep from these things the lady wanted to send me.

Doll-A-Day 2023 # 10: Dollhouse Baby by Shackman

   Today's doll is this tiny fellow.

  This little guy was made by Shackman.

   He's about 2 3/4 inches tall. He's actually a little big to be a  1/12 scale baby. He's made of soft rubber, and his arms and legs are jointed. Of course, since he's supposed to be a baby, too young for standing, his legs are molded in a slightly curved position so he looks more correct sitting. 

His neck is probably jointed too, but his clothing makes it hard to move his arms, let alone his head. 

Under his fluffy coat he's wearing a shiny nylon onesie.

There was a female counterpart to this guy, who wears a pink fluffy coat. Or maybe it's just a boy who likes pink.

  I believe these particular Shackman dolls were made in Hong Kong.

  I got this doll at the last doll show, where I bought the tub of dolls. This doll wasn't in the tub, but he came in another great deal I got, where I bought a whole tray full of dollhouse dolls and miniatures for $5. He got stored in the big tub, and then we left soon after on our trip. I didn't even remember the tray of goodies until I  was looking for something else in the tub the other evening and came across this doll. AT first I thought, "What?" Then I spotted the doll I originally wanted to buy from the tray, and remembered. "Oh yeah!" There was some good stuff in the tray. We'll cover that soon. And we'll get back to that tub too. But for now... 

  The Shackman company was founded by a woman, Bertha Shackman, in 1898. The compnay still exists today. When I was a kid we used to get catalogs from Shackman, and I ordered a couple of dolls from them. Some day I'll show you those.

Doll-A-Day 2019 # 247: Mine to Love Natalie

  Ken and I have had a busy week! We have spent the last three days driving all over the big city shopping for a used car,and running someone Emma knows to a doctor's appointment. (Why did we take him? Because Emma is in California filming a documentary on a 70 year old retiree who crossed the country doing Karaoke,and we have her truck.) We think we finally found something. We may have a car by tomorrow!
  Today's doll is this little girl.

She's Natalie from the Mine to Love series of dolls by Melissa and Doug.

She's not a doll I'm keeping,but she is cute and she is the perfect size to show you the really cute rocking seat I got at Goodwill the other day.

She's just over 12 inches tall and she fits it perfectly,

 

I've been trying to think if what dolls I have that would work well with this seat. Patience maybe?

This cute little girl has an open mouth...

...and as it does with many kids, the thumb fits perfectly in the mouth!

  Two of my three kids were thumb suckers. Ivy was the lone non thumb sucker. She was also the one who fussed and didn't sleep her whole first year!
 

This doll has a soft stuffed cloth body,with vinyl limbs and head.

She has sleep eyes with 'real' lashes.

I don't think these are her pants, but she had nothing else.

She has a ponytail.

There's a little bit of Mary-Kate and Ashley/Michelle Tanner to her.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #80: The Last of my Birthday Presents, and a Small Baby

  I keep forgetting to photograph the other two doll related gifts I got for my birthday! So finally,here they are. The first is a gift from Ken.
 

I had been wanting this set since it first came out. I thought the characters looked so great. When we spotted the set at TJ Maxx back before Christmas  for only $3.99,I was going to grab one up. Ken steered me away,and then threw me off the scent by not giving it to me for Christmas. I was a bit surprised on my birthday,which is what Ken aims for in gift giving,so we were both happy.
  The other gift was from Ivy. She ordered it and it arrived back in late January. I was told to lay it aside until my birthday.

It's an actual working tiny pocket knife, and it IS sharp.

 

When I was a kid,about 10 I think, I wanted a pocket knife. I wanted to try carving. I kept asking my dad for a knife,but he kept saying no. Finally, he asked me for a penny,and I gave him one. In return he gave me a pocket knife. It was the dullest thing ever, and I'm not so sure Dad didn't dull it on purpose before he 'sold' it to me. So I never really managed to carve anything.
  As for the penny, Dad always said you should never give anyone a knife, because it 'cuts love'. It must have been a superstition from when he was a kid in Kentucky.  So that's why he made me give him the penny. That way he wasn't 'giving' me the knife. So I guess I owe Ivy a penny.

  Speaking of Ivy, I'm off early in the morning to go to Indiana to pick Ivy up from college. It will be nice to have her home for a while. Since I'll be gone all day,tomorrow will probably be a quick post. And since I'm late to bed already, so will today's.
  Today's doll is this mystery baby.

I can't tell you much about it. It's hollow plastic.

And it's almost 2 1/4 inches long. He has molded hair detail. His paint job is a little scary, especially with that mouth that looks like he's been eating raw meat! No markings on him. Anybody seen one of these before?
