Doll-A-Day 2023 #308:Smiski

Today we're looking at a series of little guys. I've had my eye on these for a while. Fuzz had one, (surely melted now.), and I have seen them on line, but I had never seen any in the wild until a couple of days ago. They're called Smiski.

Smiski are little glow in the dark figures and, according to their official website,
"Smiski are curious little creatures that love hiding in small spaces and corners of your room."

There have been a lot of different series of Smiskis. They are blind box figures that come in packages inside boxes. So even if you tear into the box, you can't see what figure is in there unless you also tear into the package within.

The only series the store actually carried was the 'bath series'.

The store only had the bath series, but they had loads of old displays. And before you say it, I tried to buy the displays, but nobody knew anything about them. Ken even tried to call the next day and talk to the suggested manager, but she wasn't answering her phone. Looks like they've been selling, (or having stolen!), some of the figures in the displays, because according to their website, each series has six figures, and a secret figure that's randomly packed and hard to find, and none of the plexiglass displays had six figures in them.

This is the Living series. Left to right they are Hiding, Lifting, Playing, and Thinking.

This is just called 'series 2'.

This is the Cheer series. Looks like is has three pom pom toting figures.

This is the Dressing series.

This is series 4. Left to right: Relaxing, Scared,  Defeated, Lazy, and Sneaking.

Smiskis are about 3 to 4 inches tall...usually. There was also this big guy, who was a bobble head, and about 5 to 6 inches tall.

The Bath series figures were blue. We did find one of those that wasn't in the display cases, so I got it for Christmas. Or, at least, I will.

The regular size Smiskis were $6.99, which is a bit much for something so small and simple, but compared to online prices, a really good deal! The big bobble head was $20. I think they're so cute. I got really excited when I saw them in an actual store. I wanted to scoop them all up and take them home!

Those are today's dolls. Tomorrow we'll look at another interesting flashback doll.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #313: Shining Stars Doll

We had a nice day out with the girls today. Ivy did some shopping, and, as usual, we ate at The Melting Pot for her birthday meal. Emma's boyfriend joined us for the meal, and after he left us we stopped at Godiva for  ice cream. Afterward we did a little more shopping and went back to Emma's,where Ivy blew out the candles on her ice cream cake.
Today's doll is another of Ivy's.She's this baby.

She's a Shining Stars doll. The dolls were made by Mattel and were available in 2001. Ivy was 2 that year, and really liked these dolls.

The dolls came in different hair colours, with different colour outfits. This red haired kid came in yellow. The blonde came in blue. The brunette came in purple. There was also an African American doll that came in pink or blue. All the dolls had a star by their right eye.

The dolls came in non removable clothing, with glow in the dark stars, and a star shaped bunting.

Ivy still had the papers to the doll in her stuff, but she 'coloured' the pictures.

Don't let these instructions fool you. It's hard to get that doll in that bunting.

The dolls also came with a glow in the dark bottle.

The satiny body that is the clothes has glow in the dark stars on it.

The dolls are about 12 inches tall, and have soft, stuffed bodies and a vinyl head and limbs with painted eyes.

The bunting has a strap on the back that Velcros together. The child can carry the doll by the strap,or hang it on their arm.

That's the doll for today. Tomorrow we drive Ivy back to Indiana. We'll see another of her dolls tomorrow.

Doll-A-Day 140: An unusual couple of things, and Part 3 of My Cousins' Toys

Well, it hasn't been 24 hours yet, but at this point there have been no takers on the competition. Remember, you can enter until, we'll say 6:00, Monday evening Eastern Standard time, May 27th. For details of the prizes and how to enter, see yesterday's post on the Blogiversary, (Not the doll-a-day post.)
I really shouldn't call this part 3 of How I Coveted My Cousins Toys, since this is more about toys that were gifts from my cousins. I didn't necessarily want them before they were given.
Today I'm showing you some gifts from a third set of cousins. These we didn't see nearly as often as the other two sets I already told you about. These were my Dad's oldest brother's children, and they were much older than we were. At least, most of them were. The two youngest kids were older than my sister, and so, much older than I was. But apparently, as evidenced by this picture, my sister did play with them.

That's my sister on the left, and my cousin 'Sis' on the right. That's Sis's brother Bruce in the background,up to his shoulder in enjoyment of the Trix cereal.
I remember Sis gifting me with a pair of Ricky doll jeans. We had no doll that properly fit them, but my Tutti sized Buffy doll came close enough if I rolled up the legs. She wore them, along with a crocheted old fashioned dress Sis also gave me. I have passed both on to Emma, who used the jeans for her favourite doll, Emma the Doll, and the dress for Emma's best friend Susan. They have made them their own now.
It was my sister who coveted Sis's toys. A couple of years ago my sister admitted that the Barbie bra and undies we had as kids were stolen from Sis. Sis gave me the jeans and dress, but I guess she wasn't letting go of the Barbie underwear! (Not willingly, anyway.)
Sis also gave me a headless doll-purse...purse-doll. We gave it the head of my sister's Polly doll. She hated Polly anyway, because Polly was so ugly, so I guess she didn't mind giving up the head.

I've seen these purses elsewhere, and they usually have heads like this little doll. We'll see more of her tomorrow.

One of the two, probably Bruce, gave me this glow in the dark plastic lion.

He's always been one of my favourite toys. In fact. he still stands on the vanity in my bedroom. And why am I 52 years old and still have a plastic lion standing on my vanity? He GLOWS IN THE DARK! Duh! He glows a really cool blue colour. No other glow in the dark stuff I have glows in his colour.(And yes, I have several things. And yes, I have checked, and he glows the wrong colour to be radium.) I think he was actually a Christmas ornament, because he used to have a loop on his back for hanging him from something. I just checked, and there is actually one on Ebay right now, and they're calling it a Christmas ornament.

Bruce also gave me some really cool 'engine people' from some model cars he had. I still have those too, even if they do have some broken bits.
That's it for 'cousins who gave me stuff'.(Maybe that's what I should have called these posts. It doesn't have the same ring though, does it?) And then, there's always the opposite: 'Cousins who snatched my stuff', but there's only one cousin who qualifies for that one. I've already ratted on her to you. (My Susie Slicker!) Of course, maybe my cousin Sis would like to write about that one!
UPDATE:See parts ONE and TWO with these links.
Tomorrow we'll see if anyone has entered the competition.
