Doll-A-Day 2019 #173: Red Riding Hood

The news today is that Toys R Us will be opening 2 new stores in the U.S. in 2020. All Toys R Us stores in the United States were closed last year, while the company maintained stores in Europe,Asia, and India. Several new stores are planned for other countries this year too. I really hope Toys R Us manages to make a comeback here. I think it's better to be able to handle things you're considering buying, and be able to look at them in person. It's the same reason I like being able to go to a doll show,as opposed to buying online all the time.
Today we're going to look at  another doll from that box of auction leftovers. I think she's kind of cute, but I can't keep everything. So she was relegated to the reject box. They're are actually two of them. They're Red Riding Hood.

The outfit includes a red and white gingham dress with built in apron,a red hooded cape, and white undies. There were originally shoes too,but mine are gone.

She was made by New Bright Industrial Company in 1991. The symbol is an Aladdin's lamp inside a triangle.

Red Riding Hood was part of a series of  7 and a half inch dolls called the New Bright Collection Bookcase Collectable Dolls.

She has sleep eyes and rooted blonde hair.

There were 12 dolls in the series including  Red Riding Hood, Little Bo Peep, Mary Mary Quite Contrary, Cinderella, and dolls representing various countries. Sort of a mixed bag.

This box for the Scottish doll shows all the dolls in the series.
That's today's doll. We'll see you again tomorrow for more dolls.

Little Red Riding Hood and the Latest on My Thyroid

I'm so behind with things! I said I'd show you some of my Goodwill finds from weeks ago. Here's one of them. This is Little Red Riding Hood.

She was sold by Ashton Drake in 1988.

She was sculpted by Dianna Effner, one of my favourite doll artists.

She has one of those typical sweet Effner children's faces.

This girl was at my favourite Goodwill. She's made of porcelain, with glass eyes.

I prefer vinyl, but I'll make an exception for her.
Her limbs have a wire armature,so they can be posed.

She has great curly hair that's still in good condition.

I think her hood can really go up on her head, but with her hair in such good shape I didn't think I'd risk anything!

She's 14" tall.

She should have a basket with a loaf of bread in it. Her clothes are all there though, including bloomers, undershirt, dress with built in slip and apron, stockings, cape, and shoes.

There is a problem with her shoes!

I could fix them, but it doesn't show,so I may not bother. The white bits of her clothing are browned, but I can get rid of that with some Stain Devils. (I really should do a commercial for them!)

I had my thyroid ultrasound on Monday. You know, the ultrasound my doctor didn't think was necessary because he said, "If you had a goiter I could see it." (A goiter is an enlarged thyroid.) I had to really keep stressing that I was still having trouble swallowing and "there's something going on in my neck!" I pressed for it, and he finally agreed to write an order for one. So,I had it, and guess what:I have a goiter! And not just a goiter, but one with 'multiple nodules'! So now he is sending me to...are you reading this Barb? ...an endocrinologist! After he insisted I couldn't have a goiter! They said they might have to biopsy my nodules. Ack! How do they do that?! Is there a cut involved??!!
My appointment isn't until the 17th of April! I'm still having trouble even with the 2 extra half pills a week,so I hope I do ok until the appointment.I have been feeling pretty bad the day before I add the half pill,as if I've run out of medicine and it really helps when I take more. My heart has been getting fluttery again and some days my throat really feels like I'm being choked. I'll let you know what happens.
