   Happy Mother's Day to all kid and pet moms!

  Tammy World is still reuniting all her family members after a year away, so here are some pictures from previous Mother's Days.

 

Doll-A-Day 2023 #126: Tammy by Ideal

  Happy Mother's Day! Tammy World is having to be away from her mom this year, so she wanted to post this old picture of them together.

  And of course I don't have my mom any more. Here is a picture of my mom with our cat Tom, and me, when I was about 4 or 5. 

We had been picking apples in the orchard, and I am nibbling one.

  This is the last Christmas picture of my sister, and me, with Mom, taken our last Christmas with her, in 1985.

  Today's doll is Tammy.

Tammy was made by Ideal, between 1962 and 1967.

  This doll is sort of a relative of one you've seen before. You may have seen my post on my platinum Tammy, where I told the story of how I found her. 

In case you haven't, here's an abbreviated version:

  Years ago Emma and I went to a local yard sale run by a couple who frequented auctions. Shopping their garage we spotted loads of dolls. There was a big wire rack filled with dolls, doll clothes, cases. We could see a Tammy, and Barbie feet. Tammy's original gym suit and Ken's Sleeper Set pajamas were on little hangers hanging on a wire shelf. We asked about the doll stuff. We couldn't actually reach them because there was a lot of stuff in between us and the wire racks. We were told it wasn't for sale, because they hadn't gone through it yet. Made sense, but don't SHOW me the stuff!
  The next year. Emma, Ken, Ivy, and I went to a doll auction. Emma and I stood, watching the Betsy McCalls go for hundreds of dollars. "Oh, she is so cute! I want a Betsy McCall!" Emma says. "Yes, me too, but look at those prices. We'll never get one of those." I say. Emma tells me that she drove past the place that had the not-for-sale dolls last year on her way home from work last night and it looked like they were getting ready to have a sale. We make a note to get up early and check it out in the morning.
  In the morning, for some forgotten reason, we don't get out quite as early as we should. When we do we head straight for the place. Their sale is indeed on. We walk into the driveway and there sit the metal racks. They look untouched. Even the Tammy gym suit and the Ken pajamas are still hanging on their little hangers on the shelf. We start taking things off the racks and making piles. A Fashion Queen Barbie for me. The wigs for Emma. A Bubble cut Barbie for me, a case of stuff for Emma. Blonde crew cut Kens for both of us. Platinum Tammy's for both of us. A titian straight leg Skipper for me. A Toni doll for Emma. A Miss Revlon wanna-be for me, along with loads of gorgeous handmade clothes. Barbie accessories, including Barbie's dominoes, a few pieces of clothing, including the hat from Studio Tour, and the ever elusive Cap n' Crunch bosun whistle----for each of us. I took a paper bag off the shelf and looked in. Sleeping in the bag (On account of she was on her back so her eyes were closed.) was a sweet little brunette Betsy McCall. (You can see here in all her glory HERE.)She's missing the lower half of one leg, but when we go through the stuff I find we have both her barrettes, her bridal dress, veil, and white shoes, along with the vest from Pony Pals. (We realize Emma bought the rest of Pony Pals in the box at one of their previous sales.) Emma and I made pretty much a clean sweep of the shelves between us. Our final combined cost? $65.

  So, this Tammy of Emma's is the one she got at that sale. I'm looking at the pictures, and I think hers may be prettier than mine.

They're both high colour, with bright red lips, but Emma's has blacker eyelashes and darker red lips.

Mine has fluffier hair, but then, Emma's has been packed away for years. I'm sure she can be repluffed.

  You may be thinking that she doesn't look very platinum, but it's the lighting. She is definitely platinum.

I'm thinking the people we bought them from must have bought them at an auction where the people had had two little girls that they bought identical things for. They got these Tammy's and the blonde crewcut Ken dolls.

  Like all but Posin' Tammy, she has minimal articulation, just the neck, shoulders, and hips.

  The thing about Tammy and old Barbies, is they have those scissor legs, and have a very unladylike sitting stance.

As my dad would have said, "Spread out like a pair of operatin' scissors."

  And for a teenager, she sure has baby hands.

She needs to clean her nails too.

  I actually cleaned this Tammy for Emma recently, but I was still not doing too well after the fire, and honestly, I could have done a better job.

  I hope all you moms out there are having a happy Mother's Day. I'm spending the day with my girls. We went to Ivy's Senior Awards night this past week,and it really hit home that she'll be going away to college soon. I cried on and off the whole evening afterward!

Doll-A-Day 2017 #135:Camping Family Skipper

  I hope all the mom's out there had a nice Mother's Day. I missed seeing Fuzzy, who snuck by and left a garden gnome plant hanging guy in my mailbox,

but the girls were here. (Ivy had to be. She lives here.) Ivy made pancakes for breakfast,and Emma and Ivy and I hung out until Ken got home. Then we all went for dinner. I got flowers from Ken and Emma.

They were both creative in their choice of vase, and also thirsty apparently.

 and Emma gave me a really cool Monty Python book,

some flying pig socks,

and some marshmallow tea cakes she ordered from England,

and Ivy gave me a doll we'll be seeing soon.Ken 'gave' me a doll I bought for myself a while back,,(We'll see her soon too, along with the doll I...uh, I mean Ken, got me for Easter.),the Record Store Day Beatles single Emma managed to pick up this year,and a special edition 75th birthday Paul McCartney magazine.
 Today's doll was part of the same Goodwill haul as the previous dolls we've looked at. She's Camping Family Skipper.

This is her original outfit, but not shoes. They're similar though. The real ones are bigger than these, which blows my mind, because these were too big.

As you may know from reading the blog,I'm a Skipper collector...

100 Skipper and friends dolls from day 100 of the first Doll-A-Day.

 My favourite Skippers are the vintage Skippers,especially the Mod Era dolls. I thought Teen Skipper was very pretty, but I didn't like that they aged her. Skipper was supposed to be Barbie's younger sister,about 10-12 years old. Teen Skipper was almost indistinguishable from Barbie. She was about the same height,just thinner with a slightly flatter chest. She could have been just another teenager.    
  Teen Skipper disappeared in 2003. There were no Skippers,other than a reproduction of vintage Skipper in 2007,until Camping Family Skipper in 2009.

 

When Skipper reappeared as Camping Family Skipper I'm pretty sure she still had Teen Skipper's face.

The prototype has centered eyes though. the production doll has side glancing eyes.

She's blonde with a pinkish-purple streak.

The same year there was a Target exclusive wedding set,(Barbie I Can Be Bride), that used the same face for it's Skipper,and she was still blonde.

As far as I know, that was the last time Skipper used that face, or was offered as a blonde. After that Skipper has only been offered as a brunette,and her face sculpt is definitely different.

Since this Skipper was a 'camping' doll, I thought she should be camping in her photo shoot.

I got this tent, along with a bigger one,at a yard sale. They're samples of real tents from store displays.

I had wanted one of these tents since I worked at a store that had some of them. I don't remember what happened to the rest of them, but I know one employee bought one for her cat! Normally they're pretty expensive if you can find one. I got these two for, I think 5 or 6 dollars.

Her tent needs some stakes though.

The kids and I played 'dolls going camping'. There were tents galore in this house. Long before I found these tents I made a tent for Fuzzy's Tommy dolls out of some really old windbreaker fabric and....underwires out of some old bras! That's a secret, so don't talk about it...
    I like this blonde Skipper, and the face sculpt is pretty. I do like the currant face sculpt too though.

I just wish they would make the occasional Skipper without the coloured streak in her hair.

Tomorrow there will be more dolls from the Goodwill haul. It's the gift that just keeps giving.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #134: Happy Mother's Day! KayBee Special Edition Fashion Avenue Barbie 1998

  Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

 
We're going to take a break from all the Goodwill hauls to celebrate Mother's Day. 

You'll have seen this doll before. She's Tammy World's mother, Dolly World.

But originally she was the KayBee Special Edition Fashion Avenue Barbie from 1998.

Her original outfit,which I have been known to describe as Asian Wild West Dance Hall girl.

Kaybee was a chain of toy stores. I'm not sure if any of them still exist, but all of the ones around here went out of business.

She has what is known as The Mackie Face,because it was first used on a Bob Mackie Barbie doll.

When I bought her I kept her as she was for a while, but then I needed a model for some doll clothes Emma and I were making one day.

But not this dress. it's a 'store bought', as people used to say.

She became our model. She just looked so good in everything we put on her that we started calling her The Most Beautiful Doll in the World.

Somewhere around then the kids started calling my Fern doll 'Tammy the Doll', because I said if somebody made a doll of me as a kid they should use Fern,because she had the red hair and ponytail I had as a kid.

They are wearing their coordinating fruit clothes.

So when 'Tammy' was playing with the kids' dolls, she needed a mom, and The Most Beautiful Doll in the World had a child.

We shortened her name to 'Dolly World',because the full thing was too much to say every time. That's how they became the 'World' family.(And naming the husband "Wally World" was my joke.Yeah. I'm a riot like that...)
 

 I wish she didn't have to have blue earrings all the time.
 

I've often thought about rebodying her to an articulated body. Her skin tone is so pale though that it's hard to find a body for her. Some Liv dolls and the Made to Move Asian doll come close,but aren't quite right.

Apparently I will be spending tomorrow with all of my children. That's the plan anyway.That's the best gift I can think of.

So Moms,today I hope your children are treating you to a meal,bringing you flowers, or, more importantly, spending some time with you.
  Tomorrow we're back to the old Goodwill haul,(Don't worry. It'll all be over soon.)
