Doll-A-Day 2019 #125: Connie's Collection: Skipper Clone Honey by Davtex?

I went to the dentist the other day about my cracked tooth. The dentist took an x-ray. My cracked tooth is no worse and not disintegrating, but I have a small cavity on the tooth next to it. The main problem that was causing my headaches/neck aches seems to be something else the dentist saw in my x-ray: I have a sinus infection. Yes, you can see a sinus infection in a dental x-ray. So my doctor prescribed me some antibiotics and a decongestant. I started them on Thursday, and I feel SO much better! My headaches, jaw pain, and neck pain has gone. I have a little throat/ear thing hanging on for dear life, but it's going. I got better just in time, because Emma bought us tickets to see Joe Jackson for a a Mother's Day present for me. (Not Michael Jackson's dad. Is She Really Going Out With Him, and  Steppin Out Joe Jackson.)The concert was last night. There's no way I could have enjoyed it a week ago with my head splitting. It was a really good show and he did "Sunday Papers" and "I'm the Man",which are two of my favourites.
Today's doll is another from my friend Connie's collection. She's this girl.

She's obviously a Skipper clone or competitor.

She has a Skipper-like bathing suit, but a lot of the Skipper clone dolls had this same bathing suit or one very similar. Sandy by Elite had one just like this, only with a checked bottom half.

She looks alot like Elite's Sandy doll, but she has a cheaper look, and her eyes glance in the opposite direction. I'm pretty sure she's Honey by Davtex.

This doll is made in Hong Kong.

I think the Honey doll came with long straight hair, or this sort of bubble cut hair style.

She stands about 9 and a half inches tall, slightly taller than a real Skipper. That could just be due to the puffier hair.

She has very Skipper-like hands.
.

But she has bendy legs.

There's no click type knee joint like Skipper was given in 1965. They're just bendy, wire filled  rubber legs, more like Posin' Tammy,or Penny Brite, (only softer and easier to bend!) Her feet are a lot smaller and skinnier than Skipper's.

It actually didn't rain today. I was able to enjoy my dogwood tree for the first time. As you can see from the first picture of Honey, it's dropping it's petals already.

Last night I cut some lilacs and brought them in where I could enjoy them before they lose all their petals. You can see some of my lilacs in the photos of Honey.
That's the doll for today. See you again tomorrow for a cute little kid.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #261: Growing Up Skipper

I got back late last night from our anniversary trip to Canada,so I decided to do the post for yesterday today. You can also check out today's actual post. In the meantime, today's doll is this lady.

She's Growing Up Skipper.

Growing Up Skipper was sold in 1975.

She has long blonde hair that has a slight poof to it.

Her legs are plastic and don't bend. She has a similar face to earlier Skippers.

But this Skipper had a gimmick.

When her arm is rotated, she grows about an inch.

So she has two different skirts to accommodate the height difference, and the 'age' difference.

This is her original outfit. It consists of the short skirt, the long skirt, the red blouse, and she should have red flats and white platform sandals. The short skirt buttons in the back. The long skirt is a wrap around that ties.

And since she has 'grown up', she also 'grows' breasts!

The arm operates a mechanism under the rubber 'skin' on the torso.

The chest and the height increase at the same time, when the arm is rotated.

As you might have guessed, there was some controversy about this doll. Alot of parents disapproved of the noticeable anatomy.

She's not my favourite Skipper, but  she's an interesting addition to my Skipper collection.

That's it. Don't forget to check out my other post today which will get us both caught up.

Doll-A-Day 2017 # 45:Kevin, Skipper's Boyfriend

  Happy Valentine's Day!

In addition to today's regular doll,Tammy World brings us her friend, this little Boyd's Valentine Bear.

His plush heart shaped, heart covered costume is removeable.

Today's doll is Cool Crimps Kevin.

Skipper,Barbie's sister has had quite a few friends over the years. Her first friends were Skooter and Ricky. Then there was Fluff, and Tiff, and Ginger. But after Ricky there was never another male friend until Scott in 1980. Scott didn't last long though. (Maybe Skipper really wasn't into guys with giant puffball heads.)

  Kevin was introduced in 1990.
This is Cool Crimps Kevin's original outfit, minus the cap and baby blue sneakers.
His shirt Velcos in the back and the hood has a hole in the bottom so it can be slipped over his head more easily.
He has painted hair with a lot of molded detail.

There were 6 versions of Kevin made before he was dropped from the Skipper line in 1995. They included Kevin...
...and Cool Tops Kevin in 1990...

Oddly enough, the first Kevin wasn't 'Kevin'. It was Cool Tops Kevin.

...Pet Pals Kevin in 1991...

This Kevin with gold highlighted brown hair is one of these three guys.

...Basketball Kevin in '92...

...Cool Crimps Kevin in '93...

You might wonder what Kevin could crimp, since he has painted hair. He came with stamps that you could use to stamp hearts or stars on his hair and clothes.

Brown haired Kevin is wearing somebody else's clothes. He's not particularly disappointed about it though!

... and Pizza Party Kevin in 1994.

There was no new Kevin in 1995, but Pizza Party was still being sold.

Kevin was given something special: his own fashions. There were three fashions produced for Kevin. Unfortunately, it was 1990 and these are just about the ugliest things I have ever seen.

I also have to question Kevin's choice of short overalls. Just...no.
'Hot styles for the coolest guy in school'. If this is what the coolest guy wears, I have to wonder what the rest of the guys wear.
"Shake on it Bro."
Kevin is an nice doll to have in your collection if you want a little variety. At 11" tall,Kevin is shorter than Ken and other male dolls. (He could hang out with the early versions of the High School Musical guys. They're about the same size.)This does make finding clothes for him a bit harder, especially pants and shoes.

Join us tomorrow for another doll.
