Doll-A-Day 2017 #155:Play'n Jane

  Today's doll is one I just love. She's Play'n Jane.

Play'n Jane was made by Ideal in 1971.

She's wearing her original shirt, pants, and shoes.

Jane is about 16" tall,in spite of what her ad says.

Jane's gimmick was that she plays.

Powered by one C battery,she originally played basketball,horseshoes, and tic tac toe.

 That's why she can assume a sitting position. She had to be able to operate her toys. When she did, her movements were raising and lowering her right arm and head.

Her right arm is in a bent position so she can smack the switch to flip the lever that flips the balls and things.

There is a drawback to that though. Because it's necessary for her head to mechanically lower, it can't be turned. She can only ever look forward.

But she has such a pretty face that I can overlook her limited posability.

I don't have any of Jane's accessories,but I think she's a very cute doll even without them.

She has silky red hair that's rooted to be in two ponytails.

She looks cute with it down too.

When it's combed, the part in the back is completely covered.

Doll-a-Day 2017 #154 Shrunken Saturday:Ivy's Collection:Tiny Japanese Dolls

   Today is my oldest,Emma's, birthday.Happy birthday Emma! I can't believe she is now the age I was when I met Ken. It doesn't feel like it was that long ago that I was 26 myself.
  Not too long ago I featured dolls and figures from Emma's collections. Well she's not the only child I have who collects dolls and figures. Ivy has an interesting selection of dolls too. Occasionally I'm going to feature something from her collection. Today's Shrunken Saturday dolls are these tiny little people who belong to Ivy.

These tiny dolls are obviously old. I'm pretty sure those clothes are made of silk.

Those aren't hairs.Those are stray threads.

 

They are only 2 1/2" tall.

"Wow! We're so small!"

Ivy bought them at a doll show a few years ago,and I've always loved them. There was another set that she was thinking about buying too.I thought about buying them if she didn't,even though they weren't quite as nice as this pair. She didn't buy the other pair, but I forgot to too.

The little guy has a top knot,and some stray sideburns.

And just a little 5 o'clock shadow on his head.

"Aww. Was that really necessary?"

Unfortunately, he also  has a head that has come loose from his body. That's the only reason he can turn his head.

"Eww! Are you kidding me?!"

I think they're made of bisque, but they have a lovely smooth feeling.

They have some, but very little detail in their hands and feet. 

They're barefoot. I wonder if they originally had those Japanese shoes.

 These are called geta.

 As are these.

The soles of the shoes are various heights for a reason. They were to keep the bottom of the kimono from touching the ground. The taller ones were for snowy weather.Ivy was very into Asia when she was little,so she has several Chinese and Japanese dolls.These are some of my favourites in her collection though.

I love them both,but I like the little guy best.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #153:Bratz Kidz Dylan

  Today's doll is going to be something of  a surprise if you've read the blog very much. It's Dylan from the line of Bratz Kidz.

If you have read the blog on a fairly regular basis, you'll know that I have said many times that I don't like Bratz dolls. This guy is one of the rare exceptions.

He needs a shirt replacement!

I love this little guy! He's so cute!

He's from 2002. 

He looked like this in his box.

He stands 6" tall.

He has velvety hair.
 

 It's not flocked exactly, but not rooted?

This isn't his original shirt,but it is a Bratz Kidz shirt. He does have his jeans and high tops though.

 Like all Bratz dolls, he has detachable feet/shoes,and no feet without them.

Tomorrow is Shrunken Saturday,so we'll be looking at a mini doll or two.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #152:Disney Girls:Anna,Elsa,Aurora,and Cinderella

   Yay! Last day of the Goodwill dolls. I'm glad, because I'm getting tired of talking about it! Today we're looking at some Disney dolls I got in The Hauls.First up, a quick look at these two.

These are some simple Frozen Elsa and Anna dolls.Unfortunately Elsa has molded clothing on her torso. Her sheer over thingy was on somebody else,but I got it!Poor Anna is completely naked though.She doesn't even have molded on clothes.

I hate to ruin complete and mint dolls, but since these girls are essentially naked, I'm thinking about trying a repaint on one or both of them.
  On to the other dolls. These two were naked, but these dresses, which suit them fairly well,were in the bag of clothes I got.

Aurora,from Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella, are both Disney Store Classic dolls.

Stupid camera wouldn't focus on both of them at the same time. That's what happens when I have to hold them and photograph them by myself, and,like most people,I only have two hands.

That means they have nicely articulated arms...

...weird soft click kneed legs, and bodies that don't fit Barbie dresses very well.

That bodice is a little baggy.

Cinderella didn't have enough chest for her dress,and Aurora's dress wouldn't close in the back all the way.

Their articulated arms are very graceful,but a bit thin.

Both are beautiful dolls,but of the two I think Aurora wins.

 

She also reminds me of Morgan Fairchild.

She has more detail in her eyes than Cinderella.

Plus her sideglance eyes give her alot more personality.
The hair on these girls isn't the greatest though.

 
The hair on both of them is crispy,even their bangs.I've seen dolls have hair that gets crispy on the ends. But why is hair as short as bangs,which have probably never even been combed,just as crispy?

It's been said many times, but it's still true: Disney Store dolls have awful legs! Better that they keep them covered in these long dresses.

And that's it for the dolls I got in one week,(three trips,) to a single Goodwill. Shew! That took a while. I was excited about them when I got them, but once I started doing the posts on them,there were so many other dolls I wanted to feature,and I couldn't until they were finished. So I am relieved to finish them up and move onto the dolls that have been waiting in the wings.Tomorrow will be a random doll I may or may not have gotten at a thrift store at some point!
