Today's doll is this tiny little girl from Ashton Drake.
She's the second doll issued in the Heavenly Handfuls 'Sweet as You Please' series, and she's called Busy as a Bee. (Thus the little bee on her shirt.)
She's by artist Dorothy Steven.
These dolls have handpainted faces. Looks like the person who handpainted this one got a little blue eye paint on the right eye lid. "You're a doll painting artist? Well you're fired!"
Her bonnet is removeable and she has downy baby hair underneath it.
She's only 5" long.
When I first saw the two dolls in this series, that I bought at our local Salvation Army, I thought they would be porcelain or resin. I was kind of happy to find that they are instead, soft vinyl.
She has jointed arms and legs and her head turns.The arms and legs are a little hard to turn though, because they are so short and the clothes hinder them a bit. Also, the vinyl is a bit soft, so they kind of squash instead of turning to some degree.
She even has cute wooly socks.
All the dolls in this series are
something "as"
something. The other one I bought with this one was Pretty as a Picture, but it wasn't really. This one, however, is really cute.
That's the doll for today. Let's see if this every day thing makes a comeback.

I didn't know about this line! Super cute, they kind of look like the reborn dolls. You are right about the paint, maybe that is how it ended in donations? Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're right. She looks very much like a reborn doll, especially that hair. I think the popularity of reborns is probably what inspired the series. The dolls I bought are number 2 and 3 in the series. Maybe the original owner only liked the first one and was disappointed with the others. I might see why with that third one. It's a bit ugly, but the tiny clothes and booties are so cute!
