Doll-A-Day 2019 #149: The Original Tiny Tears

I have to start off with this: I haven't had a competition for a long time. The reason for that is that, in previous years, there were only a couple of entries. It didn't seem worth it. I thought about it for a long time. I almost did a competition last year for the 5th Blogaversary. I decided to do one this year and make the prize a really nice one. But so far there have still only been three entries, and,and let me reiterate, NONE OF THEM ARE VALID BECAUSE THE RULE WAS YOU HAD TO BE A FOLLOWER WHO SHOWS UP IN THE SIDEBAR TO ENTER. I can't respond to the comments left with the entries to remind them they need to follow to enter, because to do that I would have to post the comment, which would post the answer to the competition question. So I don't know if I will ever bother with a competition again. Anyone who wants to have a valid entry can become a follower  up to the end of the contest on the 31st. Those who actually entered still have time to become followers so their entries will be valid.
Am I being too picky, people? Should I just award the prize anyway, even though the rules weren't followed? Other bloggers have used the same rules for their competitions. The reason is because increasing a blog's followers can help with several things, such as being given products to review. (It's for that reason I'm starting a Facebook page for the blog very soon. Apparently that's pretty much a must these days to be considered for products.) Everybody likes free stuff, and for someone who collects on a budget, like I do,it's a wonderful gift. The important thing is to stay true to yourself and your followers and give an honest opinion, even if the product was supplied by a company.
So, on to today's doll. Since I recently showed you the late 50's/early 60's Tiny Tears I got at the flea market last summer,(If you missed her, you can see her HERE.), I thought today I'd show you the original Tiny Tears.

This is definitely not her dress. It's way too small.
Tiny Tears premiered in 1950.

The original version has a hard plastic head, unlike the one I showed you the other day, which has a vinyl head.

She measures 13 inches tall.

Like all Tiny Tears dolls, she has tear ducts at the sides of her nose. When she's given her bottle of water, she can 'cry'.

She has a wonky eye,and also...nostrils? The other one didn't have nostrils. Does this one get a runny nose too? That would be quite an unusual downpour. I used to to have a friend whose hillbilly mother used to say her nose was "runnin' like a sugar tree". Maybe that's what it would be like. The hole in her mouth served two purposes. She took her bottle that way, and also could blow bubbles from the bubble pipe that came with her.
She has sleep eyes with real lashes.

You can see her molded hair.
This girl's right eye is messed up and can't close properly when she's laid down.

Here's another look at her molded hair.

Look at those curls! As you can see, she was made by Ideal.
These shoes were on her when I got her,and I think they are actual Tiny Tears shoes. Does anybody know?

That's the doll for the day. See you again tomorrow.

  1. I know that the original Betsy Wetsy had a nose that would run when she cried. Maybe this doll does too. As always, a lovely post; this Tiny Tears would fit in nicely with your compo babies.

    1. That may be it. Pretty disgusting, but I guess if you think about it,it's no worse than a doll that pees! We're just used to that idea. You know, in my research I didn't find anything that mentioned her nose ran.

  2. Though I've been reading your blog for some time I finally got a G-mail account of my own instead of using my hubbys,I have tried to enter your contest w/o success. As I already have this doll I figured whatever..I will try again if you really have so few entries.I greatly enjoy your Doll-a-day.

    1. Korglady says the follower button doesn't show up on phones.Try using a computer to view the blog and see if that helps.

  3. I’m a bit confused by your comments about the giveaway. I entered the giveaway and I made sure I showed up as a follower before I posted my comment answering your question about Bild Lilli and saying I wanted to enter. Usually when I read this blog, I’m on my phone and I’m using the mobile version of your site. The followers list and follow button doesn’t show up in the mobile version. But when I switch over to the web version I see a list of picture icons that I assumed represented your followers and a button that says unfollow. I took that to mean that I’m already following you. Also, my picture icon shows up in the list of followers. Now I suppose it could be showing up for me and not for you, but I’ve done everything I can do on my end that I know to do.

    1. That is so weird. I have looked through the list individually, plus clicked on your name in the comments ,which brings up your profile, showing what blogs(if any) you follow. Yours shows none. I'll go through the individual followers again. Maybe you follow under a name besides Korglady? By the way, is that Kor-glady, or Korg-lady? Don't worry,I'm checking into this thing. I'm beginning to think that all this has done is make people mad at me.

    2. I just thought, maybe most people are using their phones to view, and that's part of the problem as far as following.Hmmm...

  4. I'm very sorry that your giveaway hasn't gone well. If I were you, I wouldn't award the doll to anyone who didn't follow your directions. They weren't particularly difficult, and part of the appeal of giveaways, from your pov, is to increase your blog traffic.

  5. Oh, I love to see old, vintage dolls. New ones ale ugly for me. This one is so cute, even if I wouldn't have one in home. But she is like a precious in Your photos :)

  6. Another doll I know. Yeaaa! I had the second incarnation of Tiny Tears but I kind of remember the bubble pipe. I don't remember my doll having nose runs though.

    1. The other one I showed didn't have the nose holes. I think the later ones still came with the blow pipes.

  7. There's something so charming about these baby dolls with their stylishly sculpted hair. Poor little gal, though! Her poor eye! A lot of people are going to Instagram these days in addition to/instead of Facebook. That might be another avenue you might consider. I think #DollADay posts would do really well on there. Especially these vintage ones.

Sorry your contest isn't running smoothly. It's so frustrating when it doesn't seem like it's working out right. I tried an entry for the heck of it and noticed that my Blogger profile is what pops up when I comment, rather than my gmail account that's associated with following blogs. (I use the gmail account FOR my Blogger, though- which just makes it more confusing.)

    1. Yes.It's all so confusing. I'm not computer-y enough for this! Emma's boyfriend suggested Instagram, and I'm going to look into it.

  8. I did press "View web version" on the bottom of the page and find the "Follow" button. I started following you, but I did not enter your competition, as I am not living in the US.

  9. Oh! I come up in your follower list with my real name and my ugly second grade picture. And here I come up with my chosen nickname and a picture that my ex drew. Maybe that is the case for others too?

    1. I'm not sure. I don't have a cell phone so, I couldn't text you anything, even if she wasn't packed away at the moment.
