She's Hayseed.
Hayseed is part of the Honey Hill Bunch.
The Honey Hill Bunch was a line of dolls made by Mattel from 1976 to 1978.
The 'Honey Hill Bunch' were a group of kids between 4" and 6" tall. Hayseed is 6" tall.
They all have vinyl heads and rooted hair, and stuffed cloth bodies.
The dolls had a piece of removable clothing, like a pinafore, shirt, or vest.
The 'Bunch' also came with an accessory each. Hayseed came with a big dog, much bigger than the one mine has.
This is a Honey Hill dog though. His name is 'Good', and he belonged to the character Lil Kid.
As you can sort of see in the photo above, the Bunch had Velcro on one hand so they could hold onto their accessory, or each other's hands. (The Velcroed hand held on to the un-Velcroed hand of the other doll.)
Playsets for the Honey Hill Bunch included a clubhouse...
...a clubhouse that came with dolls...
...and a Baskin Robbins ice cream store.
They also had a car called the Rickety Rig.
The faces of the Honey Hill Bunch remind me of Mattel's Baby Beans dolls.
I'm sure it must be the same artist's work. They are from around the same time.
That's it for today. Join us again tomorrow for another doll.
Oh my goodness, this doll reminds me of my cousin as a child!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd is another doll I've never heard of!! Cute though and I like the accessories that they came with!
x
I don't know this doll but I can relate to her. That's how my hair looks when it is humid or rainy (laugh).
ReplyDeleteI knew I had the clubhouse but I forgot all about the Rickety Rig until I read this!!!
ReplyDeleteThese dolls are really familiar, but I would have been three when they stopped selling. So not sure where I saw them. lol They are cute though and for some reason remind me of another doll I have seen. Made similar with cloth body, etc.
ReplyDeleteThis one kind of looks like the Baby Beans dolls, which were bigger, with vinyl head and hands, and a cloth body. Maybe that's what you're thinking of. They were much bigger, but must have had the same sculptor. Now I feel I need to show a Baby Beans. I just got one recently, but it looks different from this doll. I do have the other one though.
DeleteI absolutely loved these dolls and their clubhouse. I had all of them except maybe three. I didn’t have Hayseed but I’m puzzled because the name is familiar and she looks exactly like a red haired Fisher Price doll I had named Audrey. Red hair, red patterned top, denim overalls, red feet. I never noticed how much HHB was little versions of FP with longer arms and legs. I have 3 FP and 7 HHB & I loved both so much!
ReplyDeleteAre you talking about Lapsitter Audrey? The Lapsitters do look a bit like the Honeyhill dolls, but I always thought Honeyhill most resembled the Baby Beans dolls. It was probably the same artist who sculpted all of them, but I can't find any info. Now you've set me a task, and I need to find out. I'll update this post if I find anything.
DeleteIs Hayseed a girl or a boy? do you still have her / him and could you look at the headmark. Slugger /Battie a girl from the first wave (boxdate 1975) is marked 1975 MATTEK INC Taiwan. Her mold looks very similar to Hayseed. Would be interessting, if they share the same face :-)
ReplyDeleteI do have her, (I think it's a girl, because I'm pretty sure they all were, and also a boy would probably have been made with shorter hair at the time.), but she is somewhere in storage right now...I hope. We had a fire in January, and the room she was in was below the room that burned, and got soaked. Hopefully she made it dry and safe!
DeleteHi Tam,
DeleteI'm not so sure about. I got 5 Honeys of the first wave and tried to find out, if Spunky, Solo, Li'l Kid and I.Q. are boys or girls. After I had a look in the Honey Hill Paperdoll book - which shows the kids in their underware - I would say Spunky and Solo are definitly boys and Li'l Kid probably too. So there are boys in the Honey Hill Bunch and Hayseed might be another one? Maybe we will never know :-)
Sorry about the fire, that sounds reall horrible.
Well I guess we're going to have to go with the underwear pictures, because that tells all! I still would have sworn that at least Spunky was a girl. I guess we can make them whatever we want. As for the fire, it could have been much worse. No one hurt and only one room lost. Could have lost a kid, and a whole house, and maybe even a husband and my own life. Luckily my husband chose to go to the bathroom when he did, and discovered it.

I loved the Honey Hill Bunch. I still have all of mine. I never had the chance to get Hayseed, Sunflower, Irish Eyes, Miss Cheevus or the Baskin Robbin pair. I would love to find them and add them to my dolls. Anyone have any for sale at a reasonable price. My granddaughter will love them.
ReplyDeleteThey come up for sale on Ebay occasionally. If you want someone to sell you dolls, you'll have to leave contact information in your comment.
