Doll-A-Day 2019 # 22: G from Kuu Kuu Harajuku

I'd love to go out and do some snowy doll photos, but the below zero weather has put me off that for the moment! So while we're all shivering from the cold, and house bound due to snow,we'll get to a doll I got for Christmas.

She's 'G' from Kuu Kuu Harajuku.

Kuu Kuu Hara Juku is an animated series created by Gwen Stefani.

The character 'G' is based on Stefani, and the animated series is based on her Harajuku Lovers brand of products including perfume.

G is the leader of an all girl band called the HJ5.

I have never seen the series, and have no interest in it. I thought the doll was cute though, and had an 'Alice in Wonderland' look about her.

The 'Alice' look doesn't seem to be intentional. It's just a coincidence that G's signature colours are 'aqua, black, and white',and she wears a lot of bows.

In fact, bows are one of G's signature items. In the 1870s' the book "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There", popularized hair bands due to the hair band Alice wore in the illustrations. They came to be known as 'Alice bands',although in the United States they are just called headbands. This doll comes with a bow shaped hair barrette kids can wear.

And some charms.
G's band, the HJ5 has 5 members (Duh.) There are four other band member dolls in the series.

You may remember that I got a couple of Kuu Kuu Harajuku outfits at Toys R Us when they were going out of business.

I was hoping to find a Kuu Kuu Harajuku doll marked down at some point. This doll would actually have been my first choice, but she was out a while ago,in 2016. Luckily we came across her at Barnes and Noble not long before Christmas.
  She's jointed at the neck,shoulders,elbows,wrists,hips,knees.

Her head is on a ball joint,so she can tilt her head.

The bulging neck joint looks a little strange when she does though. She can't look up or down either.
Her arms bend stiffly, but she has hinged shoulders, elbows, and wrists.

She can't really touch her face. It's an optical illusion.
Her arms can move out at the shoulders, and her shoulders and elbows can turn in their sockets as well as bend.

Her legs can move outward,as well as up and down. In fact, she can do, as Ivy said during G's photo shoot,'high kicks'.

Her knees have swivel joints so they can be angled, as well as bent.

Her ankles aren't jointed. Her feet are 'high heel' feet, in spite of her boots being flat,(on the outside at least).

The Alice inspired outfit she wears consists of a dress, and separate short jacket...

...white tights, black and white striped leg warmers, and silver boots...

Her boots have a split up the back to make them easier to get on and off.

And of course she has her 'Alice band'.

Her hair is mostly blonde, but does have some white streaks in the swipe of bangs across her forehead. She also has a set of 'Princess Leia' buns.

And a very crooked part up the back of her head.

Here are a few more last looks at G.

Tomorrow is another doll. See you then.

  1. A cute doll. I thought that Harajuku dolls were from China. I am not sure from where I got that idea. I wonder how many celebrities make (or made) dolls.

    1. I think there has been some fuss about cultural appropriation from japan with the Harajuku stuff. It's all sort of anime based.

  2. She's cute and the jointing looks good, great for photos.
I like the anime look and the outfit too.
Keep warm in all that snow, makes me cold just thinking about the temperatures you're having right now!

    1. Thanks. Luckily I don't have to go out in the cold often. I feel sorry for people like my friend Lori, who do.a Lori recently had a terrible time trying to get from her house to her barn in the cold and deep snow to feed her horses. Luckily someone she knows plowed her driveway for her.
