Doll-A-Day 2019 #11: Miss Dollikin

Today's doll is this flexible lady.

She's Miss Dollikin.

She was made by Uneeda.

The markings on her back even identify her as a Dollikin, making identification easier.

Dollikin dolls came in various sizes over the years.

You may have seen my posts on my larger,19" Dollikin dolls. If not you can see them HERE,and HERE. This Miss Dollikin is 11 1/2" tall.

There was also a much smaller Little Miss Dollikin.
This doll was wearing the purple sweater and black pants when Ivy bought her. (We were at a doll show. I was considering buying her myself, but Ivy beat me to it. I later bought her off Ivy.) The yellow jumpsuit seems to be what she must have come in though.

I don't know where I got the yellow outfit.  It must have been in some auction stuff or an ebay lot.
The wonderful thing about Dollikins is their articulation.

This size of Dollikin has fewer points of articulation than the larger dolls. This girl has 14 points.

She is jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees, and ankles.

Her head is on a ball joint. Her body is strung.

The problem with this size Dollikin is that the stringing gets loose over time, making them floppy and unable to hold a pose.

I have to apologize for the condition of this doll. When I got her out recently to do this post she had somehow gotten black marks on her forehead, cheek, brow ridge, and nose. I got a lot of it off with nail polish remover, but it wouldn't all come off.
That's the doll for today. See you again tomorrow.

  1. An interesting doll Tam, and with all that jointing, she could be like a 'Made to Move Barbie' of the 60s or 70s!

    1. She was just about the most posable doll of her time, except, as i said in another reply, G.I.Joe.

  2. Wow, that’s an impressive number of joints! I like her face, too. She has a timeless quality about her.

    1. Yes, you have to wonder why highly articulated dolls took so long to become so popular. For a long time there was pretty much only Dollikin and G.I. Joe. (Unless you count the Mego dolls, but they were tiny.)

  3. Nice poses. She makes me think of a 1950s starlet. Maybe Ann Margaret.

    1. I hadn't thought about that, but yes, especially with the red hair and that sweater.

  4. Love this! I have the brunette in the coral jumpsuit. My doll's string must be loose, because she doesn't hold many poses well. I remember this doll from childhood, although my current crop of vintage dolls were all purchased as an adult ! Love your blog!

  6. I had a doll that looked just like this but also grew hair. It had the button on the belly so the hair would "grow" or retract. Not sure when my mom got it. I was born in 1967 and she said that she had gotten when I was too young to take care of it. Unfortunately my kids tore it up so I don't have any pics of it and so frustrated that I allowed them to play with it.

    1. I don't know of a grow hair doll that looks like her. Now you have me curious. Not Tressy by any chance?
