Doll-A-Day 2019 #64: Barbie's '60th' Week: Living Barbie

  Today during Barbie Turns 60 Week we're going to skip ahead to 1970,to look at Dramatic New Living Barbie.

Sorry about the underwear. I don't have her original outfit,and this showed off her joints and posability nicely without constricting her joints,so she could move freely. Come on. Don't you feel freer in your underwear?

  There were two regular editions of Living Barbie. the first was Dramatic New Living Barbie, from 1970.
 

 

The second,from 1971, was Dramatic Living Barbie.(Since she wasn't 'new' any more.)First edition Living Barbie had side glance eyes. Second edition Living Barbie had centered eyes.

  Like Dramatic New Living Skipper,Barbie is very posable. In fact.she was the first super posable Barbie

She is jointed at the neck,shoulders,elbows,wrists,waist,hips,and knees.

My girl has a cracked neck,which keeps her head from posing as it should. She should be able to tilt her head.

 

The elbow joints are hidden under rubber skin.

Her wrists have hinge joints.

She came as a brunette,a blonde, and a titian doll.

She has rooted eyelashes.

There were two different original outfits for Living Barbie. The first was Dramatic Living Barbie's  two tone metallic swimsuit with orange mesh coverup.
 

I only have the cover up.

The other, harder to find one, was the second edition outfit,Dramatic Living Barbie's one shouldered polka dot jumpsuit.

 There was also a 1970-71 Sears exclusive gift set called Living Barbie Action Accents. (See above ad, bottom right corner.) The set contained various clothing and sports items,along with a titian Living Barbie doll with side glance eyes. That doll is supposed to have been marked 'Japan' on her bottom, whereas the regular dolls were marked Taiwan. She supposedly has longer hair than the standard Living Barbie dolls. The standard Living doll has hair that comes just above armpit level. The Sears doll has hair that comes just below armpit level. My doll is marked Japan,and has hair that comes to the 'just below the armpit' level. Is this girl the Sears exclusive doll?
