Doll-A-Day 2019 #79: Quick Curl Kelley

First of all,I'd like to impart some good news. Some of you may have read here about our niece-in-law Carly, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Not long after that announcement we heard that her cancer had advanced to both breasts, her liver, and a rib. I asked for everyone's prayers, good vibes, and positive thoughts. Thanks to all who responded. Carly has recently announced that the cancer is completely gone in her liver and one breast, and has shrunk in the other breast and is healing in her bone! Whether you believe in the power of prayer or positivity, just keep it coming. I'm glad Carly is doing better! She has three more rounds of chemo to go. I'll keep you updated.
  Today's doll is this girl.

She's from the Quick Curl series of dolls.

Actually, one of the Quick Curl series. There were a couple. This particular doll was part of the first series of Quick Curl Barbie and friends.

The dolls in the Quick Curl series included Kelley,Barbie,Skipper, and Francie.

You can see my post on Quick Curl Skipper HERE.

This is Kelley's original dress.

I have to apologize for the state of her feet. As beautiful as Kelley is, when I got her she was covered with mildew.  Her feet have mildew stains I couldn't manage to remove.

All the dolls in the series had coordinating dresses.

The gimmick to the Quick Curl dolls was that they had fine copper wires in their hair that allowed it to be 'curled' with the special curling tool that came with them.

Kelley's red hair hides the copper wires better than Barbie and Skipper's blonde hair.

Kelley has the Steffie head sculpt, which has always been a favourite with collectors.

There was another Kelley. Yellowstone Kelley was made in 1974. That doll had the same red hair and brown eyes,(Yay! My combination!),but she had long, straight hair,a suntanned complexion and pale lips. I like this one better.

That's all for today.See you again tomorrow for another doll.

  2. That certainly is good news about Carly! I had my head in the clouds and thus didn't know she was sick, but I'll definitely add her to my prayer list.

Kelley is a very sweet doll with a lovely face. Even that vinyl is a pretty peachy shade. Red hair flatters the Steffie head, I think.

  5. That is really great news on your niece in law, long may her recovery continue.
This is a very pretty doll, but the hair reminds me of a wire brush, the strands on those could be curled around a pencil....I used to do it to my mum's wire brush sometimes when I was bored!!!!
But yes, a very pretty face, she's lovely!

My niece's hair was like that when she was little, and Ivy's too, to an extent.
