Doll-A-Day 2019 #99: Madison

I'm still on the mend today, but much better. I should be up to (nearly) full strength tomorrow, so we'll check out an interesting doll. But today we're looking at a boxed doll because...ummm...I didn't feel like photographing anything! Sorry for the bad pictures!
  Today's doll is Madison.

This Madison is from the very first wave of My Scene dolls from 2002.

My Scene was Mattel's attempt to compete with Bratz by making a series of Barbie and friends dolls with big heads and feet, and large eyes and mouths.

The Mattel dolls did have one up on the Bratz dolls, in my opinion. While the Bratz dolls had detachable shoes/feet,which left nothing but an empty peg when removed,(which also allowed the doll's feet to get lost, leaving them with peg legs),the My Scene dolls have regular Barbie sized feet, allowing them to not only wear regular Barbie shoes, but also maintain their feet when their giant shoes were removed. This allowed kids to have more shoe options for the dolls. There also aren't now a bunch of My Scene dolls with no feet! (Something that's a problem with Bratz dolls.)

I also think the My Scene dolls were a lot prettier than the Bratz dolls, and not nearly as...how to say this and keep this post G Rated?

I think you all know what I mean! (And I'm pretty sure Bratz dolls would, because they look like they know more about that kind of stuff than I do anyway!)

In Europe Madison was called 'Westley', which I thought was a guy's name.
Tomorrow we'll look fully at an interesting doll. I promise!

  1. I’m glad you are feeling better!
Madison is very cute! I have a few My Scene dolls that I have found at thrift stores. I like them much better than Bratz dolls. I do have one really strange my scene doll. She’s a fab faces doll and when you push different buttons in her back her facial expressions change from bizarre to horrifying!!

    1. I have a couple of those. I love them! They're crazy. One of these days I need to do a post on them.

  2. Yes she's definitely more attractive than the Bratz dolls which I think are very ugly and tarty. I agree that it's better that this doll had real feet as there are often loads of peg legged Bratz at secondhand markets!

  3. I still like the My Scene dolls! And their furniture and some of their clothes are still better than a lot of things Mattel has produced since. I'm thankful that my girls liked My Scene and weren't impressed by Bratz dolls.

    1. They did have some great furniture. It was much more realistic than the other Barbie furniture of the time. The only Bratz dolls allowed around here were the Bratzillaz. I have some of those, and Ivy has the glow in the dark red head. I think I have one genie too,and that's it. The cars were great though.

  4. Interesting doll. She looks like a 90s version of 60s hip. I feel I should say, "can you dig it?" but I don't want to (laugh). She is a cutie though.
    Glad you are feeling better.

    1. Must be the blue eye shadow that gives the 60's vibe.
