Doll-A-Day 81: Skipper Saturday: Twist and Turn Skipper in Fancy Pants

This Saturday's Skipper is a blonde Twist and Turn doll.

She has rooted eyelashes, a twist and turn waist and bend legs.

For a change I got a blonde TNT that didn't have a haircut!

She has much finer, much paler blonde hair than the haircut Skipper in All Over Felt that I featured recently.

She has a very fair complexion and very glossy pink lips.

She's wearing Fancy Pants from 1970.It's a two piece outfit, with a ruffled top and ruffled pants.Crazy Man!

Fancy Pants is supposed to have light blue shoes, but these soft pink Skipper flats look pretty good with it.It also came with a matching pink vinyl purse with a daisy on it.

You didn't think I was going to get by without the One Hair, did you?
Fancy Pants is notorious for the shoulder straps splitting or coming unsewn.

There is also a rare orange and pink striped version of Fancy Pants.
Sunday usually starts a new theme, but I still have birthday presents left! Ken kind of let me go crazy this year! So I'll be showing you some J Dolls in the next few days.

Doll-A-Day 73: Tammy in Fur 'N' Formal and A Yard Sale Tale

Today's doll is my only platinum Tammy.
Thanks go again to my friend Connie, who gave me the Tammy case.

She's wearing the Fur 'N' Formal fur stole and dress. I got the dress and the stole at two different places, and the doll at a third. You'll notice you don't see her feet. It's that dreaded 'no shoes' problem again. But I'm working on it. I just don't have any dress shoes.

This platinum blonde was part of a load of stuff I got at a yard sale...

Tammy's always look like they need some sleep. They have little bags under their eyes.
 Yes, it's a...

We have a local couple who go to a lot of auctions, so they have at least one sale every year, sometimes two. One year Emma and I went to their sale and while shopping their garage we spotted loads of dolls. There was a big wire rack filled with dolls, doll clothes, cases. We  could see a Tammy and Barbie feet.  Tammy's original gym suit and Ken's Sleeper Set pajamas were on little hangers hanging on the wire shelf. Emma and I found the owners and asked about the dolls, which we couldn't actually reach because there was a lot of stuff in between us and the wire racks. Well, she might as well have used thumb screws on us because the torture was just as bad. The stuff, she said, wasn't for sale, because they hadn't gone through it yet. Made sense, but don't SHOW me the stuff!
Anyway, new scene. It's the next year. Emma, Ken, our youngest, Ivy, and I go to a doll auction. We buy a few things, some of which I will let go so I can afford to keep what I really want. Emma and I stand, watching the Betsy McCalls go for hundreds of dollars. "Oh, she is so cute! I want a Betsy McCall!" Emma says. "Yes, me too, but look at those prices. We'll never get one of those." I say. Emma tells me that she drove past the place that had the not-for-sale dolls last year on her way home from work last night and it looked like they were getting ready to have a sale. We make a note to get up early and check it out in the morning.
In the morning, for some forgotten reason, we don't get out quite as early as we should. When we do we head straight for the place. Their sale is indeed on. We walk into the driveway and there sit the metal racks. They look untouched. Even the Tammy gym suit and the Ken pajamas are still hanging on their little hangers on the shelf. We start taking things off the racks and making piles. A Fashion Queen Barbie for me. The wigs for Emma. A Bubble cut Barbie for me,a case of stuff for Emma. Blonde crew cut Kens for both of us. Platinum Tammy's for both of us.

Her hair is so curly!
A titian straight leg Skipper for me. A Toni doll for Emma.A Miss Revlon wanna-be for me, along with loads of gorgeous handmade clothes...

... Barbie accessories, including Barbie's dominoes,a few pieces of clothing, including the hat from Studio Tour, and the ever elusive Cap n' Crunch bosun whistle----for each of us. I took a paper bag off the shelf and looked in. Sleeping in the bag (On account of she was on her back so her eyes were closed.) was a sweet little brunette Betsy McCall. (You can see here in all her glory HERE.)She's missing the lower half of one leg, but when we go through the stuff I find we have both her barrettes, her bridal dress, veil, and white shoes, along with the vest from Pony Pals. (We realize Emma bought the rest of Pony Pals in the box at one of their previous sales.) Emma and I made pretty much a clean sweep of the shelves between us. Our final combined cost? $65.

I had another platinum Tammy that I bought in a shoe box full of grungy dolls and stuff at an antique store on vacation once. I sold her to help finance the vacation. This Tammy is actually the nicer of the two anyway.

A closer look at the case graphics.
See you tomorrow for Skipper Saturday.

Doll-A-Day 72: Tammy in Puddle Jumpers

Ok. It's still cold here.Ice on the ground. I'm still freezing and I'm getting tired of it.
Today's Tammy is another auburn haired girl.

Tammy's going for a walk. She's ready for the weather in her coat and scarf.
She's wearing her Puddle Jumpers rain coat and scarf. How are you supposed to tie that scarf?!
I thought it was raining...

She's supposed to have white galoshes.I wish I had them. They're a molded version of the kind my teachers wore when I was a kid, with the elastic loop that hooked over a button on the side.
Seems clear out...

Tennis Tammy: What are you doing in that coat?! It's 75 degrees out here!

Well now she feels dumb. But with this weather, how can you ever be sure what it's going to be like out?!

She takes her scarf off, but she's still a little wary. Was that a drop of rain?

This uncertainty is a little embarrassing.

Is anybody looking?

Oh whatever! I'm out of here.

I'm keeping the coat on though!

She has great dark auburn coloured hair. I think it's slightly darker, but shorter than yesterday's doll. I prefer this colour to Tennis Tammy's, even though Tennis has got the same colour hair as the Tammy I had as a kid.
The purse I used in the Tammy in Travel Along post turns out to be a Tammy purse after all. It goes to Puddle Jumpers and was also sold in an accessory pack.Well, too late now.
Tomorrow we'll end Tammy Week. See you then.

Doll-A-Day 71: Tammy in Plaid Jumper

Yesterday; lovely, warm day. I got too hot working outside in a long sleeved shirt with the sleeves pushed up. Kids playing outside, falling off scooters, falling off bicycles. (The things you see just driving home.) Today, ARCTIC BLASTS! Snow! Giant swirling flakes covering the ground!Wind blowing trees sideways! And yet, there is no global warming. Oh yeah, and that Holocaust thing never happened either...

But let's ignore all that!Today's Tammy is wearing her plaid jumper dress. It could do with a belt or something.
I'm sure she should be wearing dress shoes with this dress, but as usual, my dolls are short on shoes.

She's freezing me to death, just looking at her.

She has a beautiful shade of dark auburn hair.

I love her bright red lips too.

They over did the blush a bit. They sprayed her ear too! Her left ear lobe looks like she's wearing a red earring.

This is the inside of Tammy's Ideal House again.

Tammy's an awkward sitter.
"I am not!"

Tomorrow we'll see another Tammy, and maybe it will be warmer! (Yeah, right!)

Doll-A-Day 67: Skipper Saturday: Straight Leg Skipper in Happy Birthday

Gad! It's freezing here! I thought we were finally going to have Spring yesterday. I was actually able to go out from car to restaurant, etc. without my coat. Today it's back to snowing again. I know I live next door to The Selfish Giant, but I thought the winter was supposed to stay inside their walled in yard!
  Anyway, on to today's doll!
  As I have mentioned before, this year is Skipper's 50th birthday.So here's today's doll.
That hat is really crazy.

She's a straight leg Skipper.
Ah! There really is always that one hair!

Skipper is wearing Happy Birthday from 1965.
Yes, I do need to upgrade my hat. But I have the slip.

The outfit consists of the dress, half slip, hat, anklets, shoes, and gloves.

The accessories include a birthday cake (I don't have the candles.),party poppers (I only have one.),present, and party invitation. It's confusing. Skipper has an invitation and a present, but she also has the cake and party poppers. Is she having a birthday, or going to someone else's? If she's having one, then why is only one of her friends bringing her a present? And another thing, just how many are expected to eat from that cake?! Check out the size of that thing. Are all these kids on diets?!
They have no forks, but they have a knife to cut the cake with. Hmmm. I need more accessories. But at least these dolls all have shoes!

This outfit has now been reproduced twice. The 30th Anniversary Porcelain Skipper doll, and this year's 50th Anniversary doll. My vintage doll is wearing the original 1965 fashion.
Looks like Skipper's birthday guests have arrived.Skooter looks nice, but Ricky...where is your tie?

Skooter: "Take your time and think of a really good wish." (Uh, Skooter, there aren't any candles...)

Ricky: "Forget the wish! Just blow out the candles so we can eat!"
My posts this week will be short and sweet. Bit of a relief after Oscar Week for both of us, I'm sure! Tomorrow we'll see the first in a week of Tammy dolls, in celebration of MY birthday! (That was Ken's idea when I asked for help in choosing this week's dolls.I'm not that big an egomaniac, really.)
