Doll-A-Day 2019 #7: Twist N Turn Skipper in Glad Plaids

  Today's doll is this girl.

She's a vintage Twist and Turn Skipper.

Some of you may remember way back in the first year of Doll-A-Day when I did Skipper Saturday, posting a different Skipper every week. If not,or if you want to revisit those posts, you can click on the 'Skipper Saturday' in the sidebar.

This Skipper has a somewhat usual, although not unheard of, shade of blonde hair.

Barbie's little sister Skipper was introduced in 1964,as a straight leg doll. She was later produced as a bend leg doll, and after that as a bend leg doll with a twist and turn waist. The twist and turn bend leg Skipper was first produced in 1968.

She's wearing a Skipper fashion called Glad Plaids,from 1967.

Glad Plaids included a pink knit blouse, plaid coat and skirt with matching hat and purse, plastic belt, white ankle boots, and lace tights.

Twist and Turn Skipper also has rooted eyelashes.

The Mod Era dolls are my favourite Skippers.

  Tomorrow we'll see another doll.

Doll-A-Day 305: Skipper Saturday: Blonde Twist and Turn Skipper

It seems that almost every blonde Twist and Turn Skipper I have come across has had a haircut. Today's doll is no exception.

Her previous owner has given her a cute bob, and done a pretty good job of it.

So instead of her original long hair, she has chin length locks.

She has pretty dark rose coloured lips.

She does need some lashes rerooted on her left eye. One of these days I'll have time to sit down and do that...

She's wearing Wooly Winner from 1970.
I need to find the right colour thread and sew the button back on that goes to that button hole flap. It's a blue plastic button that matches the vinyl trim.

I always think it should be Wooly Winter.

I was 8 years old in 1970, and I can remember girls wearing dresses very much like this one, with it's 'double knit' skirt and 'three quarter length sleeves'.

In fact, it reminds me of this outfit I got when I was starting first grade in 1968.

Same gold shirt with three quarter length sleeves, but the jumper is corduroy, not double knit.

I always hated three quarter length sleeves. They always felt like you had outgrown your clothes.

Wooly Winner consists of the dress...

...coat with matching hat...

blue knee socks, (Which I am missing.), blue booties...

...and a red vinyl purse, which I also don't have.

Tomorrow we'll check out another doll.

Doll-A-Day 170: Skipper Saturday: Titian Twist and Turn Skipper

For today's Skipper Saturday I am sharing another one of my favourite Skippers: titian Twist and Turn Skipper.

I have several titian Twist and Turn Skippers because those are my very favourite Skippers and I'm going to keep buying them until I get a perfect one!

Twist and Turn Skipper was only produced in 1968.She came in titian (red hair), blonde, or brunette.

The titian one is my favourite of the three, but the Twist and Turn Skipper in general is my favourite type of Skipper. I love the rooted eyelashes and the blushy cheeks. The shade of red hair is the best of all Skippers too.

This one needs a few eyelashes rerooted.
This Skipper is wearing Beachy Peachy from 1967.

It looks like a nice little dress, from the front at least, but it's really a beach cover-up.
As the old panty hose commercial used to say, "Nobody knows until the wind blows."

Beachy Peachy consists of the cover-up, two piece swim suit, and yellow flats, along with a pink vinyl beach bag with a flower on the side.

I was going to remove the cover-up to show the bathing suit, but when I started to I realized something: I don't have the top half!

She was wearing the yellow flats in all but the 'beach' shots, but I now see that none of the pictures that turned out to be good enough show the shoes!

That's this week's Skipper. You may have noticed I've been having some issues with my camera recently. Hopefully they'll be straightened out tomorrow, so join me tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 46: Skipper Saturday: Brunette Twist and Turn Skipper

I just noticed that I lost a day somewhere back there and was on the wrong number! It's been fixed though, so there won't be any future confusion---I hope!
Today's doll, on this Skipper Saturday, is a brunette Twist and Turn Skipper from around 1969. (Twist and Turn Skipper dolls with the long straight hair were produced for a couple of years.)

She has rooted eyelashes and bend legs.

She's wearing Plaid City, from 1969.

Plaid City has a couple of different looks depending on whether or not you use the hat and coat , so it was quite a value for the money for little girls in 1969.(These days of course, it's a bit more expensive than alot of other Skipper fashions.)

Plaid City came in this cotton version, or raw silk.

.Plaid City is supposed to come with translucent green flats, but as we saw with the Skipper wearing lots of Lace a few weeks ago, I only have one of those! So today she borrowed the blue flats from All Over Felt. They match better in person than they seem to in the photos.

Her polka dot stool is a modern Barbie item.It came in a Fashion Fever Furniture set called Fab Footrest. I thought it was a perfect prop because the colours matched perfectly with her outfit.
Tomorrow is the start of Chatty Week. See you then.
