DollA-Day 2019 #245: Connie's Collection: 40's Lady, Possibly Sandra Sue

The doll we're seeing today is one I found while going through my dolls that came from Connie's collection.

She's a really simple Dress Me doll, but she has such a beautiful 40's look about her.

She might be a Sandra Sue doll, by Richwood.

Her hair is a great 40's style 'do.

As I looked her over for her photo shoot, I began to realize that there was something weird going on with her. For one thing, she has an obviously older wig...

...but a newer, thin plastic body. The older Dress Me type dolls,(and even the more recent ones),have hard plastic bodies.

Her head looks older too. Her arms look older than her body. She's sort of a Frankenstein.

Her satin undies look original.

But her satin slip is only pinned in place.

You can really see the difference between her arms and her body here, her arms are hard plastic.
There are also several staple holes in her back, which would lead me to think she had had clothes stapled to her body. That's something commonly seen on old Dress me type dolls.

So I'm not sure what was going on with her.

I'd love to get a really pretty 1940's style dress on her. I think she'd look great.

She really has a distinctive look and lots of personality.

That's today's doll. See you tomorrow for another one.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #236: Connie's Collection: Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls,Part 5

This is our last day of Nancy Ann's for a while. I don't know what I was thinking, but I have another whole box full of Connie's Nancy Ann dolls! The ones I have shown you were ones I divided out because I liked them best...or something. Maybe someday I'll show the others to you too. Let me know if you're interested in that. But otherwise, unless something kicks in and I go get out my small ones that I got at a doll show, that's all the Nancy Anns for now.
Right now I feel lousy. I'm not sure why. It's something stomachy. It started yesterday evening. Poor Mow,our cat,has his second urinary tract infection of the year. He went to the vet yesterday, after I found blood in the litter box,and we followed him the next time to make sure it was him and not one of the others. The vet recommends putting him on a urinary tract health diet. That's going to be expensive, considering we can't feed Mow by himself and there are three others. But you do what you have to do.
We are out of kittens now,and it feels a little lonely in here. But Mow,Joey, and Jimmy have been keeping me company. Arky actually came downstairs for cat treats yesterday,so maybe he'll join us soon.
As I said,t oday we're looking at the last couple of Connie's Nancy Anns for a while.

These two are bisque.

The blonde looks a little grouchy.

But Mistress Mary, although reportedly contrary, looks like a nice enough kid.

They have painted features.

Their legs aren't jointed...

...but their arms are.

Mistress Mary could do with some wig repair.

She has a pretty dress though.

Grouchy has a nice floral dress too.

These dolls are fairly early ones. They probably date from the 1930's or early 40's.

As I said, I have another full box of Connie's Nancy Ann dolls. There were many more. Some were sold at the sale while I was there. There were also a lot left that were unsold when I left the sale. I'm sure that wasn't all of them though. Although Connie's dementia was to the point where she couldn't remember well any more, while her daughter was preparing the dolls for sale,Connie saw one and said,"I have a doll like that." Her daughter said,"This is it. This is your doll. Do you want to keep her?" Connie did. Her daughter said that she was having to get rid of most of Connie's dolls because of lack of space, but Connie did keep several of her favourite dolls. I was glad to hear that. She loved them so much, and she was still able to enjoy them.

Those are the dolls for today. Tomorrow we'll see other dolls,so come back then.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #235: Connie's Collection: Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls Part 4

Today we're looking at more Nancy Ann doll. These are today's girls.

This one had a tag that said Nettie Bird. It seems it is supposed to be Nellie Bird.

I don't know the name of this girl.
Nellie Bird is an example of the scary eyed plastic Nancy Anns!

She's not as bad from the side, but she's still looking at me.

The blonde has two black eyes, but at least she's not scary.

She's marked Storybook Dolls,USA.

The brunette definitely has some attitude.

These are the 5 and a half inch dolls. Both of them can turn their heads, and sit.

I think the blonde is definitely less scary than the brunette. She's a bit sweet.

She has a pretty, delicate looking dress.

It closes in the back with a big snap, which is different from the smaller gold snap on the older Nancy Ann doll I showed you the other day...

...or on the other doll today.

Underneath she has matching bloomers.

She has painted on shoes, and  I notice I didn't photograph the tag inside her dress.

Ah! She's scaring me!
The brunette just has plain muslin bloomers and underskirt.

...and painted on shoes.
That Nellie Bird is a little cross eyed. Maybe that's what gives her the evil look. But she's not as bad straight on.

But I think I prefer the other girl.

That's it for today's dolls.

Stop looking at me!
We'll finish up the week with a couple more Nancy Anns tomorrow.
