Doll-A-Day 2023 #297: Fresh Dolls Lynette

The other day I posted a Fresh Doll named Lexi. I got her at the bin store for $1, which was a super good deal. Then a few days ago I found a bunch of Fresh dolls, from the same series, The Vivid Collection, at Ollie's. I don't know if you have Ollie's where you live, but they are a discount store that is sort of like Odd/Big Lots used to be. They have some pretty good prices on most stuff, and some things I haven't seen before. So this week they had a bunch of their Christmas toys out, and included in that were the Fresh Dolls. I bought two of them, because they were only $4 each. That's a pretty good deal too. We'll look at one of them today, and one tomorrow. I'm getting this posted while waiting for Kate Bush to get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tonight! Yay! I've been a fan since 1978, and I'm proud of her.

So today's doll is a Fresh Doll named  Lynette.

She is fashion doll sized, and about 11 1/2 inches tall.  When I posted the previous Fresh Doll I said that my favourites from the back of the box were the guys, the red head, and the blue haired girl.

Unfortunately Ollie's didn't have any of the guys, or the red head. They did have the blue haired girl, and I found I didn't like her nearly as well as Lynette, and tomorrow's doll. (You'll have to wait to see who that is!) I'm hoping to find the guys at another Ollie's.

Something I failed to mention when I posted the last Fresh Doll is that the company is 'Women Owned'.

Lynette has a serious and strong look about her.

I'm not sure you'll be able to see it, but she has detail painted in her lips. They aren't just one colour.

She has simple earrings.

And quite a head of hair.

Her purple hair is pulled up into a simple ponytail on the top of her head, but it makes a great hair style.

I hate people who can just do a ponytail and it looks like a hairdo! I just look like somebody from the dustbowl or something.
Her hair looks good, but I don't think it could be let down. It's thinly rooted, and I'm guessing there's nothing in the middle. I'm not going to look!

She has some articulation beyond the standard five points. She also has jointed knees and elbows.

Her legs can move out to the sides a bit, but she has trouble sitting flat on her butt when she tried to cross her legs. It's one thing or the other.

She can sit with her knees together as long as she doesn't cross her legs.

She can cross her legs this much, but not much more.

She can do some lifelike poses. And you might notice that her figure is slightly more full than a standard Barbie, but not as far away from it as Curvy Barbie.

Her hip joints allow her legs to be swiveled up and down, so she can do a one leg down and one leg up pose to make it look like she is standing with one hip higher than the other. I don't know how to explain that. and I swear I took a picture, but where is it?

Her molded underwear as flowers on it.

Her shoulder has a joint that allows for quite a bit of movement.

  Her elbow joint also swivels.

She even has a belly button. Remember when such a fuss was made about Barbie getting a belly button, when other dolls had had them for years?

Her clothes consist of a midriff turtle neck sweater, and white pants. Both close in the back with Velcro, but the nice kind, that doesn't stick to her hair.

Her pants are a bit stretchy, and are made of a fabric that mimics the look of miniature denim really well, and without being bulky.

Her shoes are white heels. I had a hard time telling which one went on which foot.

They have a slit in the back to make them easier to put on, but they don't fall off. I was impressed.

I really don't need another doll right now. I like this one, but there are others I might like more, so I need to leave space for them. So, after I steal her white jeans, this girl is looking for a new home. More details tomorrow when we see her friend.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #229; Cowgirl

I know I keep telling you that I have been busy. Well I have. All will be revealed soon, but today was another busy day. I can tell you what I did today though. Today I made a very ugly cake, and mixed up the ...mix for the appetizer thingy, for Emma's  bridal shower, which is tomorrow evening. I know. That shouldn't take all day. Did I mention that I also did a load of laundry? Well, anyway, I'm dead tired,  and tomorrow I have to drive all the way to Cincinnati and back to a doll show, and then go to the bridal shower, and then go all the way to Cleveland for another doll show on Sunday. Well, I don't have to, but I want to! I am going to be very tired by Monday, when we have to do stuff at the house, and find Ken a suit for the wedding! Tuesday I am taking the day off. I am going to do nothing but ay around and watch YouTube all day. So sue me.

But since I am so tired, and didn't have a chance to photograph anything today,, (I actually have three dolls photographed, but I am going to do them three days in a row next week.), I m giving you only one photo today, of a mystery doll. I saw her at an antique mall a while back. I don't know if what she is wearing even belongs to her, but it looks like it probably does. She looks like a lesser quality fashion doll, from maybe the 70's. Let me know if you recognize her. I know she looks vaguely familiar to me.

I know it's only one picture, but that was the original idea for Doll-A-Day anyway! It just sort of spiraled out of control! Well, okay. Here's one more. Her tag said 'Barbie Cowgirl', because you know how all fashion dolls are 'Barbie' to most people the way tissues are Kleenex, and the refrigerator was always the 'Fridgidare' when I was a kid.

And anyway, I'm going to two, count 'em, TWO doll shows in the next two days, so you'll be getting a glut of doll pictures soon.

  See you tomorrow.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #222: Flavas Bike Date Set

Today's doll are Liam and Happy D, from the Bike Date boxed set.

This set was new in a mint box until we had our fire. It got wet in the room below the fire and while it looks okay at first, there is a problem. But we'll get to that.

The set was sold in 2003.

As I said, this set features Liam and Happy D. There was another Flavas Bike Date set that had Tre, the only other make doll in the line, and Kiyoni Brown, one of the other girls. There was another Liam doll, who was blonde and clean shaven. I kind of like this version. I have another, unboxed one, that I posted HERE. That post also has some information on Flavas dolls, if you're interested.

Happy D has two tone hair, kind of like Cruella DeVille.

Flavas premiered in 2003, and lasted through 2004. They were nicely articulated, and had some interesting, well made clothes. Thee two both have faux leather jackets and boots, with jeans for Liam and 'leather' pants for Happy D.

They also both have helmets, but the elastic holding them has disintegrated over time. Originally Liam was holding his own helmet.

There's also a pretty sharp motorcycle.

At least, I think Happy's pants are supposed to be leather.

And now for that problem...Liams pants have some mildew on them! I don't think it will leave any sign when they are washed, but it does mean i have to undo Liam's restarints and remove his pants for washing!

These two were to be sold. They have lost some value now.

Those are the dolls for today. Come back tomorrow for more dolls.

Doll-A-Day 203 #158: Tressy

Yes. I've done Tressy before. You've seen my childhood Tressy, my beautiful brunette Tressy, and my blonde Tressy. But you've never seen this one, and she's gorgeous.

You have actually seen her before, She had a cameo in one of my doll show posts.

She's on the left.

She has the most beautiful alabaster complexion, and red lips. All the other Tressy dolls I've seen have sort of a pink complexion, but this girl is very fair.

She just hasn't gotten featured until now. I was so taken with her at the doll show. I circled back around to consider her several times. I kept thinking, I don't need another Tressy. And I have two Tressys with this hair colour already. but she was so pretty, and unlike any other Tressy I've ever seen. In the end, I broke down and bought her.

The blue and white dress she was wearing when I bought her was nice, but I took it off to wash it, and it's somewhere at the house. So she is wearing an outfit that was stored with my vintage Tammy, Barbie, and Skipper collection in the Room of Water.

I would have thought it was homemade, but I have two of the dresses. (But only one bolero jacket.) They are slightly different in size though. It would be nice if the smaller one could be cut down small enough to fit Cricket. Then they could match.

The other thing about this Tressy is, she has the silkiest hair I've ever seen on a Tressy.

If I had my fine tooth comb I could have made it look even nicer.

Her grow hair feature is intact.

I've mentioned this before in my Tressy post, but Tressy's growing hair was invented by a furniture designer.

Her only 'flaw' is that her lipstick doesn't line up perfectly with her lip sculpt.

But then, neither does some real people's.

She has her belly button, which releases the hair to be pulled longer when it's pushed.

And there's the keyhole in back to wind it back in.

She is s different looking, that for a while I considered that she might be a European Tressy. She does have the American Character stam though, even if some of her hair is rooted through it.

She is probably tied with my brunette as the prettiest Tressy I have. (Apologies to my childhood Tressy!)

Tressy was always sort of a step beneath Barbie. But I think this one gives Barbie a run for her money.

As usual, I'm short on shoes.

Here are a few more pictures: because she's so pretty, and because I currently have to take multiples of every pose to get one in focus, because my autofocus is still not working.

She does look a little suspicious.

That's the doll for today. Come back tomorrow to see what else I come up with.
