Doll-A-Day 2017 #131:Specs Reads a Lot

It's time for another edition of 'All the stuff I got at Goodwill last week"! Today's doll is a Lalaoopsey Littles. She's Specs Reads a Lot.

Specs is the little sister of Bea Spells a Lot.

She needs a good bath and spot removal and her clothes need washed.
 She stands about 8" tall.

That's including her topknot.

She has cute overalls. They're all once piece and velcro in the back.

Her shoes are removable.

Her shoes say R and L. She must have trouble with left and right.
Her glasses are not.

They're hooked to her head internally. I'm thinking of getting this feature on my glasses...

I was pretty excited to get this girl. I love dolls with glasses, and I like this character particularly. I also didn't have any Lalaoopsies this size.
Tomorrow we'll see some other Lalaoopsies from the haul.

Doll-A-Day 2017 # 113: Lalaoopsey Forest Evergreen

Today's doll is  a recent Goodwill find. He's Forest Evergreen.

Forest is one of the few boys in the  Lalaoopsey universe.

The others include Ace Fender Bender,Patch Treasurechest, Matey Anchors,Sir Battlescarred,The Wacky Hatter, and Pete R Canfly. There is one more mini, but I don't know his name.

Forest is also one of only four boy Lalaoopsey dolls made for the full size line.

The others are Ace Fenderbender, Patch Treasurechest, and Sir Battlescarred.

He's a lumberjack.

I was really happy when I found him at Goodwill. Not only had I wanted him when he was new in stores, but he's wearing his full original outfit...

It's all one piece and closes in the back with Velcro.
  ...complete with his boots.

His hair has lots of molded detail.

He originally came with a pet beaver. It may have been floating around Goodwill somewhere, but I didn't see it.

I have never bought a full size Lalaoopsey new from a store. I have always caught them second hand. I like them, but I think I prefer the minis.

Nothing personal, guy.
Besides being so cute, the minis don't take up nearly as much room! I have begun passing up on the full size ones when I find them now, even second hand, unless they are something extra special, like Forest. I even paid more for him than I normally would for a used Lalaoopsey. He was $4.50. I'm so cheap, I probably wouldn't have paid that if he hadn't had all his original outfit.

I love boy dolls too, and there just aren't as many of them.

Tomorrow we'll be back with another doll.

Happy World Doll Day! Give A Doll To A Child in Need

  Happy World Doll Day!

That's tomorrow. It's all about giving a doll, so you still have time to donate a doll to a deserving charity, give a doll to a child who needs one, or gift that special someone a doll they've been longing for.
World Doll Day was the idea of Midred Seeley, and this is the 29th year. Here's the original letter, from the WorldDollDay.com website:

"To make it happen I need cooperation of every doll collector, every magazine editor, doll newsletter, doll shop, library, doll maker, mother, grandmother, father, grandfather, and all the stray aunts and uncles. The first World Doll Day is the Second Saturday of June 1986. Give a doll to a grownup, child in the family or just a friend.  If you don't have a child to give a doll to - find one. There are many children with no dolls.

Think of it this way and ship a doll to another country.  I have always felt that the common doll could be an instrument of world understanding. From the first time I started writing books on doll making, I had the hope that dolls would help make friends all over the world and develop a little love among all.
World Doll Day will also be a day for doll exhibits. It is my hope that all libraries will have a special doll exhibit. Museums will publicize their doll exhibits and have special doll exhibits at this time.  Magazines will put out special editions.  Doll stores will put on campaigns weeks ahead.  Doll Makers will make special dolls for World Doll Day.  There will be doll competitions with World Doll Day awards, plaques and trophies.
The logo is made from artist Boots Tyner's doll representing a child. The child carries a German bisque doll to represent this doll collectors gift.  Feel free to copy the logo or have one made.
Everyone can enjoy the fun as there are no fees, no permission needed, no obligations, nobody owns the day, no club, no company.  It's a free- for- all, take up the day, its ideas and fly with it.  Lets do it now.  World Doll Day.

If you think World Doll Day is a good idea, then appoint yourself a committee of one to do something about it--only then can it become a reality.  Would you tell five people,  ask them to tell five people, and each of them tell five people and so on.  World Doll Day's birthday is June 14, 1986.
Sincerely,
Mil and Vernon Seeley
P.S. This letter may be copied and copied again and again until the world knows about World Doll Day."

Tammy World heard it was 'World' doll day, so she thought it was meant for her...
So pass the word. Buy a doll for someone.

Dolls on the left are D.W. (from "Arthur") in back, Rosie from Calliou, Lemon Meringue,  a Strawberry Shortcake friend, and Baby Gonzo, from Muppet Babies. Dolls on the right are Sarah from Calliou, and Jo Jo from Jo Jo's Circus,(In back.),  Casia, a Mooshka doll, and Lalaoopsey Ace Fender Bender. On Tammy's lap and shoulder are dolls I made. And of course, Tammy is really 'Fern' from the When I Read I Dream series of dolls from 2001.
I said my next post would be a review, but then this happened...Soon, I promise!

Monster High and Lalaoopsy Clones on sale now

Just a note to tell those who like Monster High and Lalaoopsy dolls that Family Dollar and Dollar General stores have some knock offs you might want to check out.Family Dollar had Lalaoopsy wanna be's called Little Dizzy Doo. They have button eyes and molded hair, and come in the large and tiny sizes the real ones come in. They aren't as well made as the real thing. They are cute, and if I had never seen the real Lalaoopsy dolls I might have found the Dizzy Doo dolls even cuter than I did. There's also a playset for the small Dizzy Doos. The Monster High knock offs were called Gothic Girl (Dollar General),and Midnight Madness (Family Dollar). (Sounds like a sale.) The Midnight Madness probably came closer to the real thing, with similar hands and jointed arms. The legs were solid though. I think the clothes were probably better made and of better quality fabric than the Gothic Girls, but the designs of the Gothic Girls clothes were better. Gothic Girls weren't jointed anywhere but the neck, shoulders, and hips.I think the faces on the Gothic Girls were better though. So if you could roll Gothic Girls and Midnight Madness together you might have one fairly decent rip off. I didn't have even a phone with me, so no pictures. Sorry. You can actually get results if you Google Dizzy Doo dolls, but I couldn't find anything on the other two.
By the way, don't be fooled by the store names. They sell things at every price point. It's just that most of it isn't worth more than a dollar.(Although I doubt that's what they had in mind when they named the stores!)
I thought I'd mention these since some people like to collect clones of their favourites too.I hope you are all getting your holiday shopping done. As for me, I am amazingly close to being finished now. Unfortunately, it's the hardest people on my list that I have left!
