Doll-A-Day 2023 #100: Dollhouse Family

Wow! We're up to day 100 already! That's what I thought anyway. Then I realized I am still a week behind, so we hit that milestone a week ago. There is another milestone coming up that we are going to mark somehow though. In May this blog will celebrate it's TENTH anniversary! Can you believe it? I can't. Time flies when you're having fun. I wonder what will be coming up for the anniversary? It's a big one so it should be something good. I have some ideas, but I'm still figuring it out. Stick around.

Today's doll is a bunch, a family. They're this group of dollhouse dolls.

They're 1/6 scale. That means the dad is about 6 inches tall, and the mom is about 5 1/2. The family includes a mom...

She looks a little spacey.

....a dad...

...a little brother...

...and a...chef?

He's the same type of doll as the others, but his clothes are new. I think someone was one of a kinding him into a chef.

All of these dolls are rubber, and have lots of detail molded into their hair.

The chef has painted on shoes.

As does the little boy.

Mom is barefoot.

She must have had removeable shoes, because Dad does.  He still has his though.

He still has glue on the bottom of his foot.

They must have been glued on his feet at one point, because there's glue residue in there.

The family is bendy, being, as I said, rubber, with wires inside.

They can turn their bendy necks too.

The dad gives me very Bert Convey vibes.

Dad's drawers were sagging, so when I tried to pull them up I noticed something: Dad is pretty ripped.

He's got quite an unexpected six pack, for a dollhouse guy.

And biceps.

He even has back muscles. You wouldn't expect dollhouse dolls to have such detail. They don't have extra clothes, and often their clothes are glued or sewn on, so their clothes don't always get removed. Because of that, they are usually made with pretty plain bodies.

And Mom has pretty muscular legs.

That one is a little wonky.

I'm going to guess this family is from the 1960's or 70's. I don't know who they are made by though.

By the way, the book they are using as a backdrop is this one.

You may have read my post on the Edith the Lonely Doll books HERE. The book is here because it got wet, and in fact, singed, in the fire, It was right next to Fuzz's room. What worries me is, the other Edith book was with it, and it didn't get brought here. Either it got totally destroyed, or it made it completely unscathed and was taken to storage in a tub. No one seems to know at this point. The fact that this one got singed may mean it was in the front, and it's tough library binding protected it, and the other book was behind it and totally untouched. Or the other one could have been in front of this one, and took the brunt of the heat and fire, and was totally destroyed. The suspense is driving me crazy.

Those are today's dolls. If anybody recognizes them and knows who made them, please leave a comment.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #204: Holly Hobbie

We've been living in the past lately, with all the dolls from the 50's and 60's. Today we're coming back into modern times a bit.

We recently saw a couple of Holly Hobbie dolls  from the early 2000's. This Holly Hobbie is from around the same time, and she's just as cute.

She was available in 2006.

She was from a series called Clubhouse Girls.

There were three dolls in the series,Holly,Amy, and Carrie, and there was actually a clubhouse playset to go with the dolls.
This Holly is about 4 and half inches tall.

She's a bendy doll.

I'm not sure her head is supposed to turn, but it does.

Her clothes aren't removable, although her skirt is at least made of a separate piece of rubber.

Her shoes and socks are molded and painted on.

Her shirt has raspberries printed on it.

Her hair is a non-removable separate piece too.

That's today's doll. Join us again tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #43: Raggedy Andy Superflex Doll

I think I may have sorted the problem with the day 35 Ashley Maxie friend post. Somehow it had back dated itself and was dated as last July! So it was buried in last year's posts. I have changed the date to what it should have been, and reposted it. So let me know if you're seeing it now. Does it show up, in the sidebar or search, for you? Does it show up between 34 and 36 when you scroll through the posts?
Our weather has been crazy. Yesterday we had snow on the ground, rain coming down, and fog. Today, the rain had stopped, the snow was all gone, and tonight the wind is rattling the windows.
Now,onto the doll. Today's doll is this little guy.

As you can see from his pants, the paint gets funny after a while.
He's obviously Raggedy Andy..minus his nose!

He did originally have one, but from what I found in researching these dolls, they frequently have lost their nose. I may have to paint him one.

"What's the matter with my nose?!"

He stands about 6" tall.

Andy was made by Lakeside in 1967.

He's a 'Superflex' doll.

This Superflex doll display reads 'Twists and bends into 1000's of funny positions!'
The package for Raggedy Ann and Andy read,'He sits, stands, bends, and twists, in thousands of lovable positions'.

Raggedy Ann and Andy are just so lovable. Even their bendy positions are 'lovable'.

"Why can't I be funny?"

Lakeside made a lot of the 'Superflex' dolls, including Raggedy Ann, Gumby and his horse pal Pokey. (You can see a post on my mini Gumby and Pokey HERE.),Popeye, The Green Hornet, Captain America, Smokey the Bear, and Disney characters like Donald Duck. In 1968 they made Super Mini-Flex figures. Those were about 2 1/2" tall. I have a Mini-Flex Raggedy Ann I'll show you some day.

He has molded hair and clothes in the back as well.
I always loved Raggedy Ann and Andy, and wanted the dolls for years when I was a kid. This guy kind of reminds me of the Raggedy Andy I got for Christmas one year. I had been longing for a Raggedy Ann and Andy, and that Christmas  I got...a Raggedy Gretel and a foam rubber Raggedy Andy! The Gretel was at least a rag doll. I still have her and she still looks fairly new...because I could never love her. She was cold feeling and she just wasn't Ann. I didn't hate her, I just never really had any affection for her. I kind of liked the Andy. He wasn't what I wanted, but he did at least resemble the real thing, and he was kind of neat. He was made of foam rubber, and had wires in his body so he could be posed all sorts of ways. I had learned my lesson from a lot of my previous toys though, so I was afraid to bend him too much and make a wreck of him. If he hasn't melted away to nothing he's still in my attic. I need to rescue him. Gretel's up there too. I did finally get a real Raggedy Ann and Andy. You can see them in their post HERE. I even made some miniature ones you can see HERE.

That's all for today. See you tomorrow for another doll.
