Doll-A-Day 2019 303: A Couple of Old Couples

Emma had a successful party tonight. She had plenty of guests, and everyone enjoyed her party food.

My Strong Sad meringues were a bit flat, but they tasted good and weren't totally bad as far as likenesses go.

There were some better ones than these. That one in the middle is pretty perfect. Of course, that's why it's broken!
I'm giving a shout out today to our friend and reader Dorothy, who has had some health problems lately. Dorothy is one of our most frequent commenters, and I hadn't heard from her in a while. I got worried about her. Luckily I had Dorothy's email address,so I sent her an email to make sure she was ok. Dorothy assured me she is on the mend and will be back commenting soon. So get well soon Dorothy! Everybody, send Dorothy your best wishes and help her along,
Today's dolls are a couple of elderly couples from the sales tub. Here's couple number one.

They're a sweet pair. They're about 18 or 20 inches tall. They have stocking faces and hands.

I think they're faces were done so well, especially their eyes. Their eyes are very realistic, especially for being painted on cloth.
Now the other pair of oldsters...well, that's another story!

They're a little smaller than the other pair. They are about 16 inches tall.

This pair seems older. Their clothes seem to have been made of vintage fabrics. The man has a wool felt coat, and the lady is wearing a real fur. (Ew.)

Can you see her little teeth?

But what is the deal with those faces? The old man is kind of cute, but the lady is somewhat disturbing.

Their hair is made of cotton I think.

Their 'skin' seems to be something like fabric mache, but unlike fabric mache,it feels soft on the surface.

It's obviously over some kind of form, because there is something under that nose, don't you think?

Look at his little cotton mustache.

Those are the dolls for today. See you again tomorrow for another one.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #302: Days of Double Happiness

Today's doll is another I photographed from the tubs of sale dolls the other week. She's very pretty, but just not the type of doll I collect. She's this pretty lady.

She's 18 inches tall. Her arms are wired for posability.
She's called Days of Double Happiness.

She's from Ashton Drake. She was designed by Judy Belle.

She's porcelain, but I think she has a cloth body. Her wedding ring is painted on her hand.

Look at her delicately painted finger nails.
Her wedding dress is really pretty, with lots of lace and sequins.

Apparently this isn't her bouquet! Her bouquet is made up of red flowers and has a 'double happiness' charm hanging from it.

That's today's doll. I have to get up early tomorrow and make some meringues for Emma's house warming party. It's also a party to play the latest Homestar Runner game, (thus the name of the party, the 'Homestarty'),and the meringues are supposed to look like Strong Sad.

I'll show you if they turn out well!
See you tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #301: Miller & Valentine

Today's doll is another from the sale tubs. She's this lady.

She is a Miller & Valentine doll.

She's probably from the 1950's.

She measures about 17 inches tall.
She has jointed knees very like Miss Dollikin or Miss Revlon.

Her ankles look like they would move, but they don't. Maybe they used to?

Unfortunately the tub she was in had some dampness in it, and her dress now has some mildew, and it also faded red onto her arms and back.

I'm not keeping her, so if anyone wants to rescue her, leave a comment. If anybody knows her name, please let me know.
That's the doll for today. Tomorrow we'll see another doll from the tubs.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #300: Dark Eyed Girl

Today's doll is one I bought at Goodwill a while back. I picked her up on the way home from the last doll show we did, so she has been living in one of the show tubs. I pulled her out the other day when I transferred the show dolls into cheaper tubs so I could use the good tubs for packing up Ivy's toys. (She had packed everything in cardboard boxes that were way too big so they weighed so much they couldn't be lifted.) She's this girl.

She's about 9 inches tall.

She's only marked made in Hong Kong, on the bottom of her shoes.

I can't decide if her eyes are cute or scary.

I don't know who she is, but she's familiar. I would say she's a 60's/70's doll. I think her clothes are original, but I think that is just a slip and she's missing her skirt.

That's the doll for today, Come back tomorrow for another one.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #299: Asian Lady

Today's doll is this beautiful lady.

She also came out of the tub of dolls we had to to sell, but may just find her way into my collection.

She's quite tall. She stands over a foot tall.

She looks to be from the 1960's. She has quite a bee hive.

There's a little glue showing in the back of it.

She has a pressed fabric face.

She's sort of like a Pose Doll, with her pressed fabric face and her wired fabric fingers. Unlike pose dolls though, her arms and legs seem to be covered in a more cotton type fabric than the stockingette covering Pose Dolls have.

Her hand looks really twisted, but I tried to bend it into a more realistic position and it wouldn't really bend. I was afraid of breaking her hand,so I let it be.

When I was a kid I loved this type of dress, and I still do. Ivy was obsessed with China when she was little, and she had a couple of dresses similar to this one.

This doll is wearing plastic high heel shoes. Her one foot is sneaking out of the shoe. I've worn high heels, and I don't blame it.

That's the doll for today. Progress continues with packing away Ivy's closet.which is still stuffed with toys. I keep coming across dolls I want to show you. That will be coming in November,so stay tuned! In the meantime, come back tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #298: Allied Grand Doll

Continuing with Ivy's room makeover today I went out and bought storage tubs to pack away her old toys and things. The ones I got were small and cheap, so I traded them with some nice sturdy ones that held the stuff from our last dolls shows. To do that I had to unpack the show tubs and I thought while I was doing it I'd photograph some of the dolls for posting. These are almost all dolls I'm not keeping, so most of them will be ending up on the sales page. I think I'm keeping today's girl, but keep your eye on the upcoming posts. If you spot something that takes your fancy, let me know and we'll work it out.
Today's doll is a little bit of a mystery.

I know she's by Allied Grand.

And I'm pretty sure these are her original clothes.

Her dress snaps in the back.
Her dress has pretty embroidery on the front.
She has bloomers that match her dress.
Her slip is actually a separate piece of clothing.

She's probably a late 50's or 60's doll.

She has sleep eyes with plastic lashes and she's about 10 inches tall. But what I don't know is her name. If anybody recognizes her, please let me know who she is.
That's today's doll. Come back tomorrrow and see what else I dug out.
