Doll-A-Day 2019 #37: Rob, Maxie's Boyfriend

I'm just getting this one in under the wire to count as today! Yesterday Lori had her heart procedure which went very well. Let's hope this one takes and she can forget about the heart problems. She wasn't allowed to drive herself home form the hospital yesterday,so I took her home and stayed to help out. Ken came to pick me up today, and we stayed so he could connect her Roku up for her,and I helped her sort out the last of her dad's things. So we got home a bit late.
Yesterday we saw Maxie, and the day before, her friend Ashley. Today we're taking a look at Maxie's boyfriend Rob.

Rob seems to be harder to find than Maxie or Ashley. This is the only one I have ever seen in person.

Maxie and Rob,together again.

He doesn't have his original clothes. He's been redressed in Ken clothes.

 Rob has some BIG hair.

Rob is 12" tall. He's the same size as Ken, but comes off bigger. Like Ashley and Maxie, Rob seems beefier overall than the Mattel counterpart. Maybe it's because he's muscled.

He has some big arms and hands.
Rob on the left,4oth anniversary Ken on the right. You'll have to excuse what seems to be Rob's dirty hands. Rob is actually Emma's. When she moved out, he was left in the basement for a few years, until I rescued him after a basement flood. He was pretty mildewed by then and had to be scrubbed with baking soda and a baby toothbrush. But even
those can't work miracles.
Rob has big hair, but that's not why his head looks bigger than Ken's. His whole head is big.

Rob looks big,but if he went to the beach and met Tuesday Taylor's boyfriend Eric, he'd be getting sand kicked in his face.

With his big head he might be able to outwit pinheaded Eric though. You can see my post on Eric HERE.

"Bring it on!"
At least Rob is a little different looking from Ken and most other male dolls of the era. He can add some variety,if you don't mind guys with big hair.
That's it for the Maxie line. Tomorrow we'll look at a very different doll.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #36: Maxie

The last few days I have posted especially late, Today I'm posting especially early because I have to be at the hospital with Lori at 6AM. To follow up on recent events, the water problem has been fixed,Ken fixed the pipes today. Ah! Hot water again!
Yesterday we saw a couple of Ashley dolls, friend of Maxie. Today's doll is another from the Maxie line. It's Maxie herself.

I saved Maxie for today, because my example is not that nice. I wouldn't lead a series off with her! Emma has a much nicer Maxie she bought in box, but I couldn't find her. A lot of Emma's stuff is put away.

She has some problems with her bangs. They don't want to lay down.

Unless I hold them down!

Maxie was made by Hasbro.

Check that eye makeup and those hairy brows. She has one of those classically 80's 'startled happy' faces, like Barbie.
The line ran from 1988 to 1990.You can watch a commercial for the Maxie dolls HERE.

Besides her friends friends,a couple of which you saw yesterday. She also had a boyfriend named Rob. Guess who you'll see tomorrow...
Maxie, and her friends are 11 1/2" tall. She's basically the same size as Barbie, but comes off as being bigger. That's because Maxie has much more realistic body proportions.

Her hands seem to be a lot bigger than Barbie's.but side by side comparison shows that they aren't. They're just more realistic. You can see the comparison in yesterday' post HERE.

Maxie has silent click bend knees, that actually bend pretty far. Oddly,Maxie's knees bent much farther than the knees on either Ashley doll. I don't know if this is the design,or if the Ashleys,(or maybe Maxie) have something wrong with their knees.

Maxie has the more realistic bend.

Ashley on the left and Maxie on the right. (She borrowed a skirt.)

I think Maxie has the same face sculpt as her friend Sun Splash Ashley.

I think they're just painted differently.
Slumber Party Ashley is completely different though.

Maxie is wearing an original Maxie jacket, which is also in questionable shape, just because:
I don't have any other Maxie clothes to show her  to you in. It's the jacket from Cheerleader Maxie, but I don't know if the doll is Cheerleader Maxie.

The sleeves have shed their faux leather coating, like so many leather look doll clothes from around that time.

There was a cartoon to accompany the Maxie line. "Maxie's World" ran for 32 episodes in the first year of the doll's production. You can watch an episode HERE.

There were playsets and fashions released for the Maxie line too, like the Maxie Day Dreaming Bed you saw yesterday.

Alot of her accessories were made from molds created for Jem,another Hasbro line that preceded Maxie.
That's it for Maxie. Tomorrow we'll finished up the Maxie theme. See you then.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #35: Ashley,Maxie's Friend,and the Maxie Day Dreaming Bed

First of all, tomorrow is my friend Lori's heart procedure. Remember all those kind thoughts, prayers, good vibes, and positive energies I had you save up when it got cancelled a couple of weeks ago? Well we can use them now,so let them fly. It would be very appreciated.
Today's doll is two: Slumber Party Ashley, and (I think)Sun Splash Ashley.

Ashley is a friend of Maxie, by Hasbro.

Slumber Party Ashley is wearing her original 'outfit': her pajamas.

She also came with a striped pillow,a hair ribbon, and fluffy yellow slippers.

Sun Splash Ashley came in a bathing suit. I don't have it, so she has borrowed a non-Maxie outfit from around the same era.

Anybody recognize it?

The Maxie line was produced between 1988 and 1990.You can watch a commercial for the Maxie dolls HERE

These two are lounging on the Maxie 'Day Dreaming Bed'.

The pictures of the Maxie bed box are courtesy of  Emily Pearce. Thanks Emily.

The bed spread has 'M' printed all over it.

The bed originally came with these accessories.

Slumber Party Ashley has a sort of open pucker mouth.

No matter how many times I combed her hair, these hairs just kept coming back.

She has 'pearl' earrings.

Sun Splash Ashley,or whichever this is, and Maxie's other friend, Simone, had the same face sculpt as Maxie,  a smiling mouth with teeth showing.

I guess swimming is more fun than hanging out at Maxie's slumber parties!

Oddly enough, Ashley seems to be able to change her eye colour with her clothes! Slumber Party has brown eyes, and Sun Splash has blue eyes.

I was really glad to see the brown eyed Ashley, because red haired dolls almost always have blue eyes. I know that's more common, but as a brown eyed red haired person, I always look for that combination.

Although both Ashleys have red hair, they're very different shades.

Maxie and her friends are 11 1/2" tall, like Barbie, but are a bit beefier, giving them much more realistic body proportions.

They have silent click bend knees. I like their realistic hands.

The hands seem a lot bigger than Barbie hands, but a side by side comparison proves they aren't that much bigger.

Made to Move Barbie, left, and Ashley, right.

Ashley on the left this time, Made to Move on the right.
The Maxie feet are definitely bigger though.

And flat, compared to the high heel Barbie foot.
Maxie was accompanied by a cartoon series called Maxie's World. You can watch an episode of the cartoon HERE.
And that's it for today.Tomorrow we'll see another doll from the Maxie line.
