Doll-A-Day 274: Skipper Saturday: Two Tone Brunette Straight Leg Skipper

This week's Skipper Saturday doll is this brunette doll.

She's a brunette, but she's what's called a 'two tone' Skipper, because her hair is rooted with a combination of brown and red hairs.

It looks great.

She's wearing Learning to Ride, from 1966.

"Do you think these jodhpurs make my butt look big?" The cool barn is by Melissa and Doug. I think the horse is a Barbie horse. The wooden manger hanging in the barn is a guinea pig feeder from the pet section of Ollie's.

Learning to Ride coordinates with Barbie's Riding in the Park, from 1966-67.
Riding in the Park.
They liked these outfits so much they had their pictures put on a case wearing them! (That is, they were wearing the outfits. The case wasn't...)

Learning to Ride consists of a sleeveless red shirt...

Don't confuse this shirt with the sleeveless red shirt to Skipper's Sledding Fun. That one has a turtle neck.
 ...black and white riding jacket...

...yellow jodhpurs...

...black riding boots...

...and hat,black gloves...

I only have one.
...and a black riding crop,(which I don't have.).
In spite of owning this really keen riding outfit, Skipper can't actually sit on a horse...
This involved some weird sideways splits to achieve.
"Well I hope you understand that I can't actually ride you. But you had a nice brushing, right?"
Sorry about the riding thing."
"Are you mad at me?"

"I can't help it. It's a 'straight leg' thing."
"I'm sorry. So are we still friends?"
"That's better."

"You know I love you."
"Aww. Good guy."
"Ok. Now come on and get back in your stall."

"Right in there. Yeah, come on."
"You are seriously not going to get in your stall? I said I'm sorry."

"That's more like it, Good boy."
Now for the least fun part of owning a horse...

Tomorrow is the big doll show in Columbus, (Ohio). I'm going to try to get some sleep because I have to get up super early to get there in time to have some pre-opening shopping time after we get our table set up!

Doll-A-Day 267:Skipper Saturday: Blonde Straight Leg Skipper

Before I forget, welcome to our newest follower. Thanks for joining us Shirley!
I had planned to get so much done today, but as usual, nothing ever goes as planned. I was going to get most of the next week's posts done today while I was here all alone: Ken went to work two hours earlier than usual today, Fuzz was asleep since he works nights, and Ivy has been gone since Friday morning, camping with her friend and her family.Well, for a start, there wasn't a working camera battery in the house. I did get some posts written ahead, but no pictures. On top of that I have to do Ivy's jobs while she's away, and while I was cleaning the rabbit cage Jerome kept kicking 'wetness' into my face. My belief that it is just water is, I'm sure, only wishful thinking. Plus I've had a sinus headache all day, it rained so I couldn't get my laundry dry, and it's really cold in here. There. Got that off my chest. (But it's still covered with rabbit 'wetness'...)
I took a few close ups before the only working camera battery in the known universe died it's sudden death. Finally the batteries are charged, so I have taken the rest of the pictures of today's Skipper. Here she is. She's this  straight leg Skipper.
According to her sign, she's playing the part of Clara in The Nutcracker Suite.

You may have seen her before, in the post telling about how I got her, from October 11th of last year.

I bought her from a lady who was trying to sell the dolls that had belonged to her and her sister as kids.
As I bought them. They're dressed in the last things their owners played with them in, I suppose. Both Skippers had had their lips coloured. I don't know with what, but it came off with water.
I bought the Skippers that had belonged to both sisters, and their Skooter and Tutti dolls.

This is today's girl, as she looked when I bought her. She belonged to the lady I bought her from, whose name is Karen.

The brunette belonged to Karen's sister Linda, who has passed away. Linda's doll was featured on Doll-A-Day 74.
Before...

...and after.
'Karen' is wearing Ballet Class, from 1964-65.

Ballet Class included this sparkly pink tutu...

 flowered head piece...

black leotard,black tights...

 ,white ballet shoes with ties...

Tying ballet shoes is not my strong suit...
... Nutcracker ballet sign, and pink satin drawstring bag, (to keep the shoes in).

The pink tutu has a zipper in the back.

Ballet Class coordinates with Barbie's Ballerina, (1961-65) Barbie has a Nutcracker sign too.Hers says the Sugar Plum Fairy is played by Barbie.

See you tomorrow for the start of Soft Doll Week, where we'll be looking at soft bodied dolls.

Doll-A-Day 253: Skipper Saturday: Brunette Straight Leg Skipper

Today's Skipper Saturday doll is a new acquisition. I just bought her last night at Salvation Army. She's a brunette straight leg.

A tip from a doll dealer who lives here in town, (I ran into her at Goodwill.), led me to Salvation Army. They had a Tutti case with three dolls and non Tutti clothes, a Ken case with a Ken, Allan, and a bunch of Barbie clothes, and a Skipper/Skooter case with a Ricky, this Skipper, and some Skipper clothes and shoes.

The Ricky is super nice and looks barely played with. We'll see more of him tomorrow.

Skipper is in very good condition too. She might have had a chunk of her bangs cut, or she may have just been rooted that way.

She's in nice condition otherwise though.

She has the 'tan' skin tone'. She's a lot less pink than my tan skinned Sample Skipper that I showed you last Saturday. Even though she's tan skinned she has a very pink complexion compared to today's girl.
Sample on the left, new girl on the right. New girl has a slight paint flaw in her right eye. I haven't had a chance to do any clean up on her other than a quick rub on her face to remove some white powdery looking stuff. I forgot it was there. Sorry!
This Skipper is wearing Platter Party from 1965.

'Platter' refers to records, for those of you too young to know the usage.

Platter Party consists of the dress, red flats, a blue plastic record player, and 2 'records', one with a blue label and one with a red label.

The blue record player was something I wanted because it reminds me of a record player I had when I was a kid.It was light and dark blue too, and made of really hard plastic. It had been my Dad's, I think. It ran on batteries. I took it to school in first grade and played my few records on the bus and at school during indoor recess. I wish I still had it.
Unfortunately, even though I have two of the Skipper ones, I can't lay my hands on one of them right now! But it looks like this:

As warm as it has been recently, today it was in the 40's! It rained all day yesterday and on and off today. That really helped cool it down. Ken and I did some yard saling this morning, and while we were out it began to snow, and then, suddenly, to hail! Ken was in shorts and a short sleeved shirt. Everybody was questioning it, as was I. Ken always tries to claim that he's not cold, even though I was freezing. Eventually he admitted that it was 'starting to get cold'! He even put socks on when he came home!
It's supposed to be in the mid 30's tonight, so I was forced to pick all my half ripe and green tomatoes and little cucumbers before they froze.I hope they ripen inside, but tomatoes, which are one of my favourite foods, taste so much better when they ripen on the vine. I waited all summer for my tomatoes and the majority of them were still trying to ripen and grow. I did  bring one big planter inside that has a tomato plant that was still blooming. I expect nothing will come of it, but it had so many blooms I thought, why not give it a chance?
Check in tomorrow for another doll.
