Doll-A-Day 2023 #336: Mystery Rubber Girl

Today's doll is a mystery. And I apologize for her nudity. She was found this way.

I have no idea of her maker. She has no markings. She kind of reminds me of the Lesney Miss Matchbox dolls from the 70's, but they have rooted hair.

She has a fairly detailed little face for being so small and made of rubber.

Her hair has a lot of molded detail too.

She even has a little rib definition, and a slight pot belly, with the hint of a belly button.

She's about 4 inches tall.

Her hands could have been trimmed better.

I would have thought she would have had some wire inside her, to make her posable, but she has none. She's very soft and can't hold a pose.

That's today's doll. If I get my act together, I will post another  one tonight to help me get caught up. We'll see. I still have a lot of Christmas projects to work on.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #270: Moody Cutie Extravaganza!

Just a couple of days ago I got a comment on an old post about a Moody Cuties doll, from someone who collects them. Then today my sister and I went to a toy show, (I was told by our friend Vinny, who was a dealer there, that it's now the biggest toy show in the country!), and we saw these! They're all Moody Cuties.

I have never seen so many Moody Cuties in one place in my life! All together there were TWENTY FOUR!

There were a few doubles, but most of them had something different about them: same dress, different colour, same face, painted differently, etc.

The Moody Cuties were made in the 1960's. They're made of rubber, and are about 3 1/2 inches tall, in their sitting position.

They are called 'moody', and they are almost all one mood: sad. But number 24 was on a shelf at the other end of the table, and appears quite happy to be away from that crying mob.

My sister actually bought a Moody Cutie at a doll show we went to a year or so ago.

The necklace is original, because a few of the ones we saw today were also wearing one.

And yes, I did get a few things at the show. I'm terrible! See you tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 264: Weird Rubber Baby

Today's doll is another mystery naked kid. (Sorry!)

He's unmarked, so I have no idea who this kid is, so if anybody knows, please leave a comment.

This baby is about 14 inches tall. There's a squeaker in his back that works when you squeeze his head.(Ouch!)

He has sleep eyes, with hard plastic lashes.

Those are some intense eyes!

Scary!
 The mouth is interesting.

There's detail in his molded and painted hair.

This guy's body is made of rubber. He's sort of in a sitting position.

But he can't really sit down.

Maybe if he sat on the edge of something?

No. That doesn't really work either. He could barely stay upright.
That's today's doll. See you tomorrow for another one,and I promise it will be wearing clothes!

Doll-A-Day 2019 #261: American Character Baby Sue

Today I apologize for the nakedness!

She has a strange darkness around her eyes. I think she looks a little scary. Maybe it would scrub off,but it didn't clean off with spray cleaner and a paper towel.

She's Baby Sue and she was made by American Character in 1957.

Her eyes are sleep eyes.

She's not exactly Magic Skin, because I always think of that as being quite thin. Her body and legs are a thick rubber.

But her arms are jointed, and made of vinyl or plastic. Because of the rubber torso, the arms are hard to move.

She's about 17 inches tall.

There's squeaker in her back.

That's the doll for today. See you tomorrow!

Doll-A-Day 2019 #213: Native American Girl and Baby

I am still working on the post I have planned to do for days.It may end up being a bit picture heavy, because it's two dolls in one post. Sorry about that. So today our doll is this little girl.

She  is only about 3 inches tall. She's about the size of a small troll doll.

She has the feathers form another doll's outfit on her hand.
She's made of rubber.

Her dress and headband are made of purple leather.

She has molded on underwear.

This baby was in with all the travel dolls, which included several native American dolls.

I don't know if it goes with her or one of the others. At least it matches. It's also wearing purple suede.

That baby is almost as big as she is.
The baby is all one piece of hard plastic.

Those are the dolls for today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get that other post finished!
