Doll-A-Day 2023 #327: McDonald's Trollz Doll

Today's doll is a little one I came across. She's from a 2004 TV series called Trollz.

She's about 3 inches tall. That's not counting her rather substantial hair.)

She was made for McDonalds in 2004.

I'm told this character is Topaz.

She doesn't do anything. This is the worst sort of McDonald's toy: It can't move, because it has no joints, and it is stuck forever in a weird position that limits it's playability.

And on that, I will let you go. I will see you tomorrow, if not sooner, for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #189: Polly Pocket Rings

I still have these pictures on my computer. They are from way back when I cleaned out Ivy's room. Remember those posts? While going through her massive Polly Pocket collection, I unearthed these babies.

They are Polly Pocket rings.

The petal of the flower says Polly Pocket. You can see that on the left one.

There are two of the same ring, which feature a ballerina.

The ballerina Polly doll inside the ring is the size of the original Polly dolls.

These rings, which are expandable, to fit various size fingers, were available in Happy Meals in 1994.

There were regular Polly rings, sold on cards, that opened. These don't open.

That's because this ring was a Happy Meal toy, and so didn't have all the features of the regular line toys.

The design is a flower, with the leaves making up the part that goes around the finger.

That's it for today. Tomorrow we have to got to the house and clear out stuff. More soot up our noses, although I finally got Ken to wear a proper mask. I have been worried since I found out that a lot of old plaster, as well as old insulation, was made with asbestos. Fuzz's room is full of insulation pulled out of the ceiling, and broken plaster and plaster dust. Add to that the soot and ash and it's not a healthy environment. I should be wearing a mask when I dig through the bags for retrievables too, but I haven't so far. Anyway, see you tomorrow.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #50: Happy Meal Stacie

Well. we're up to 50 at least. I'll catch up those other 6 some day. But we'll get to the doll in a minute.

Tomorrow is a doll show, and for the first time in years, Emma is going with me! I'm pretty excited to have this day out with her. But I have to be very careful about buying anything, because I can't get anything big and keep it at Emma's. I am taking up enough space with stuff already. But I think we'll have fun.

Now for today's doll. She's this little girl.

 She's Happy Meal Stacie.

Not to be confused with Barbie's friend Stacey, from the 60's. Stacie is 'Barbie's littlest sister', or at least, she was when she premiered. She came in once they had aged Skipper out of childhood and into her teenage years. They needed another little one, the age Skipper was when she first came about, (about 10 years old or so.) Stacie premiered in 1992, although the head sculpt was first used  in 1990 in a Barbie wedding set, for a doll named Kelly. This was before the baby sister Kelly came out, and took over the name.

Now here's a question. Why does Mattel think they have to keep making Barbie's siblings grow up? They're dolls! They could stay kids forever! For Heaven's sake, they haven't made Barbie be an old lady. Why do her siblings have to get older? Then they just have to come up with another sibling to be the little one. They got rid of Tutti and Todd, then they made Skipper grow into a teenager. That made them have to come up with Stacie. They had Kelly, who was originally supposed to be Barbie's baby sister. She came with a crib and a bottle and diaper. Then they made her school age, and had to come up with Krissy. Krissy eventually disappeared. She must have gone off to college.

Anyway, back to Stacie. Happy Meal Stacie was one of a line of Happy Meal dolls that also included Happy Meal Todd, Happy Meal Whitney, and Happy Meal Janet. You can see Emma's Happy Meal Janet in THIS POST.

Happy Meal Stacie came with the same old Barbie brush, in red, a GIMONGOUS Happy Meal box that came up to her waist, and a tray of Happy Meal food, none of which could be taken off the tray and played with. FAIL!

Gimongous Happy Meal box:

Back when McDonald's still used Grimace...

...and the Hamburglar and Birdie.

There was a reason for the giant Happy Meal box, I found out. When I was taking the pictures, I found a pair of play Barbie earrings in the box. I had no idea how they got there, and thought they must have come from something else. As I was doing this post I found out that the Happy Meal dolls came with 'surprise jewelry'. So guess where the earrings came from? Ha ha!

The little tray of Happy Meal food includes French fries, a hamburger, a drink, and a smaller, much more in scale Happy Meal box, (that would no way fit all that food inside.).

The tray has a thingy on the bottom so Stacie can hold it.

It clamps on her arm.

I guess it does look like she's carrying it on the palm of her hand...

...as long s you don't look underneath.

That looks a little stupid.

Stacie is wearing a McDonald's shirt, which closes in back with a snap.

Her shorts are stretchy polka dot ones.

She has blue socks and red high tops.

Her hat has a hole in the top.

She also has red earrings.

And of course, being Barbie's sister, she has mountainous hair.

The nice thing about Stacie was, she could tilt her head, as well as turn it.

She can even tilt her head down a little.

That makes for some cute posing, even if she has minimal articulation, just shoulders, hips, and neck, along with click bend knees that don't bend very far.

With those big shoes she can be balanced in such a way that she can stand on her own.

But not without them.

That's today's doll. Tomorrow we just might see something from the doll show.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #319: Betty Spaghetty

  Today's doll is this girl.

She's Betty Spaghetty. (Yes, that's spelled correctly.) Or, as Emma used to call her when she was little, 'Betty Maghetty'.

Well, this is the McDonald's version of Betty Spaghetty.

She looks similar, but is a lot more simple. I'm not talking about her intellect. She is more simply made than the real Betty. The actual Betty Spaghetty dolls had bendy arms and legs, changeable hands and feet, and hair that was sort of...posable?

This girl has bendy arms and legs and removable legs, but her hair is string and doesn't hold a 'pose'.

Betty was originally made by Ohio Art,and first marketed in 1998. This McDonlad's Betty is from 2003.

That's the doll for today. Tomorrow we'll see a doll who is a lot more vintage.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #159: Happy Meal Janet

The winner of the competition was announced yesterday.. BeBe, you won! Please contact me with your address so your prize can be on it's way to you.
Today's doll continues the celebration of Emma's birthday week, and the specific theme of the past two days. She's from a different series of dolls than the last two, but there is a connection.

  She's Happy Meal Janet.

Like all of Stacie's friends, she has the same head sculpt as Stacie.

She's one of Emma's straight out of the box dolls.

Happy Meal Janet was made in 1993.

She has click bend knees and a head that can tilt as well as turn.
She's from a series of Happy Meal dolls, which included Stacie, Todd, and Whitney as well.

Janet is wearing her original outfit.

Her outfit includes a shirt with McDonald's logo...

Her long shirt closes in the back with a snap.

...a hat, polka dot shorts...

...polka dot socks to match her shorts, and orange high tops.

She also has blue earrings.

She also has her original hair set, but her rubber bands are disintegrating,a problem many of these older dolls are having these days.

Mattel must have had quite a deal with McDonald's. In addition to the 1982 Barbie Loves McDonald's restaurant playset,(We'll look at that someday.),carded McDonald's uniforms for Barbie, Ken, and Skipper, to go with it, 1993 Birthday Fun at McDonald's set and it's accompanying Fun Time at McDonald's Drive-Thru playset (with talking drive-thru), the four doll Happy Meal set, they also made a 2001 Barbie and Kelly McDonald's Fun Time set, and the Barbie McDonald's Fun Time Drive-thru playset to go with it. Did I miss anything? Let us know if you know of anything else.

That's the doll for today. Come back tomorrow for a different doll.
