Doll-A-DAy 2023 #122: Clawd Wolf

Today's doll is Clawd Wolf, who is obviously a Monster High doll.

This particular Clawd is from 2014. He ws part of the Pack of Trouble series, and a Walmart exclusive.

He has that great Monster High articulation.

He is jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles.

He also has some wild mutton chops, and a pompadour befitting a king. (If that king were Elvis.)

And he has these hands. The left hand is doing he 'I love you' gesture..or the heavy metal thing, or any of the other dozen things that gesture can mean.

It kind of limits what he can do with his hands though.

I found this guy when I found the other Monster High guy I posted the other day. I like Clawd better.

Those mutton chops though!

I do love his flocked hair though!

Emma might come home tomorrow. She's doing much better.

See you tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 210: Monster High Dot Dead Gorgeous Spectra Vondergeist and the Amazing Salvation Army Find

Well, I am doing a post today, even though  my bad shoulder is killing me and I got nothing else done except taking Emma's cat Cowboy to the vet for his shots. (He's my only grandchild!) I did also take Ken to work and stop at the thrift stores. (Ahem...) I found a really beautiful antique wooden sewing machine parts box and a set of miniature bleachers I'll show you when I figure out who they fit.
On the last Doll-A-Day post I showed you a Monster High doll and told you about finding a great lot of Monster high dolls at Salvation Army for $4.99. Well today I'm showing you the whole lot, but today's doll is Spectra Vondergeist from the Dot Dead Gorgeous series. First, here's the lot.

They came with a bunch of accessories. I'm still figuring out what goes with who. There were also 2 and a half stands.

And here's a closer look at all the dolls.

Ghoulia Yelps, Spectra Vondergeist,Abbey Bominable,Operetta,Lagoona Blue, and Clawdeen Wolf
They're all in such nice condition.(Except Lagoona Blue is missing her leg fins.)I'm not sure they were played with at all. There was also this mysterious note in with them.

Ivy theorized that someone was using them in a scavenger/treasure hunt, hid them in the trash, and they didn't get found before they were thrown out. But if that's the case, why was the note in with them?It looks like a kid's handwriting, but I wondered if maybe the parent was trying to make a point about the kid not picking up their toys and hid them in the trash as a 'clean your room and you'll find them or else they are going' kind of thing. But then the note wouldn't be in with them and besides, they weren't thrown away, they were donated to Salvation Army.
Anyway, the mystery aside, here's today's doll.

I don't think that thing around her neck is hers, or maybe not even a necklace, but I put it on her. It matches her other stuff.
She has kind of a Lauren Bacall look about her.

If Lauren Bacall had had purple hair and lips...

I've looked at the Spectra dolls before, and I liked the see-through hands and feet. (She's supposed to be the daughter of a ghost.)

"Look Ma. No hands."

...Or feet either.
She's from the same series as the Operetta (Which I showed you the other day.), and the Lagoona Blue: 'Dot Dead Gorgeous'.(Clawdeen and Abbey are from 'Dead Tired', and Ghoulia is from 'Scaris, City of Frights'.)

'Cause they have polka dots on their clothes, see?

The whole series, from the back of one of the cards included in the lot. I can't quite see the polka dots on the other three. Maybe on Ghoulia.

And here are some more pictures of her interesting face.

See you tomorrow, (I hope.I have a lot to do.)

Doll-A-Day 209: Monster High Dot Dead Gorgeous Operetta

Today I had to drop Ken off at work, and we all know what that means, don't we boys and girls? That's right. It means I took the opportunity to check out Goodwill and Salvation Army while I was on that side of town. Nothing to speak of at Goodwill today, but Salvation Army had a bag full of Monster High dolls: 6 dolls with all their original outfits, a couple of stands, and some of their accessories for $4.99. I jumped on that one. I'll be showing you the others this week as well as the mysterious message that was also in the bag...
But for today we're looking at Dot Dead Gorgeous Operetta.

Operetta is the daughter of the Phantom of the Opera. This is a little off, because, like Quasimodo, the Phantom of the Opera wasn't actually a monster. They were just  regular guys with 'problems'.
I'm getting I Love Lucy from this hairdo: "I'm a monster! Ricky! Wah!"

Emma knows a little girl who until recently collected Monster High dolls, so she has learned quite a bit about them from her. So Emma's my expert for information.Operetta happens to be her favourite Monster High doll.

One of the reasons is probably because, like Emma, Operetta is into music. She has music themed accessories, like her piano key belt...
The Phantom of the Opera was a musician whose face was scarred by acid and he went a little crazy. Somehow his daughter inherited his acid scar, (except hers is in a cool design.). Luckily she's a bit more accepting of her 'deformity'.

...and her piano key purse.

She also has a coffin shaped cell phone and compact, since she's a Monster High doll.

But her shoes look like they have dice on them. I get it for the 'Dot' theme here, but why dominoes with all the piano key stuff?
Poor girl has no toenails.
But the shoes are still really cool, as Monster High shoes tend to be.

Spiders! These are definitely shoes my mother would never have worn!

Everybody knows that Monster High dolls are wonderfully poseable.
What is that earring though? A spider web? Kind of looks like a webbed foot.
But they don't stand up very well without a stand. This pose took some leaning.

I love their delicate hands.

This picture reminds me of the old commercial for pantyhose. (This was in the olden days of my childhood when most ladies,my mom included, still wore garter belts and stockings, and panty hose were still kind of a new thing.) The point of the ad was that you could get by wearing these pantyhose and everybody would think they were stockings...until a windy day. The slogan was, "Nobody knows...until the wind blows." Kind of disgusting really. The wind would blow the skirt of the lady in the commercial, but modestly so. Hey, this was the early 60's.

I really like this doll. I haven't seen nearly as many Operetta dolls as some of the other characters, and before this my favourite was probably Frankie Stein. (I especially love the one that lights up and you can see her bones.)
Her eye doodad got a little out of whack.

See you tomorrow.

Monster High and Lalaoopsy Clones on sale now

Just a note to tell those who like Monster High and Lalaoopsy dolls that Family Dollar and Dollar General stores have some knock offs you might want to check out.Family Dollar had Lalaoopsy wanna be's called Little Dizzy Doo. They have button eyes and molded hair, and come in the large and tiny sizes the real ones come in. They aren't as well made as the real thing. They are cute, and if I had never seen the real Lalaoopsy dolls I might have found the Dizzy Doo dolls even cuter than I did. There's also a playset for the small Dizzy Doos. The Monster High knock offs were called Gothic Girl (Dollar General),and Midnight Madness (Family Dollar). (Sounds like a sale.) The Midnight Madness probably came closer to the real thing, with similar hands and jointed arms. The legs were solid though. I think the clothes were probably better made and of better quality fabric than the Gothic Girls, but the designs of the Gothic Girls clothes were better. Gothic Girls weren't jointed anywhere but the neck, shoulders, and hips.I think the faces on the Gothic Girls were better though. So if you could roll Gothic Girls and Midnight Madness together you might have one fairly decent rip off. I didn't have even a phone with me, so no pictures. Sorry. You can actually get results if you Google Dizzy Doo dolls, but I couldn't find anything on the other two.
By the way, don't be fooled by the store names. They sell things at every price point. It's just that most of it isn't worth more than a dollar.(Although I doubt that's what they had in mind when they named the stores!)
I thought I'd mention these since some people like to collect clones of their favourites too.I hope you are all getting your holiday shopping done. As for me, I am amazingly close to being finished now. Unfortunately, it's the hardest people on my list that I have left!
