Doll-A-Day 2023 #62: Rosebud Doll

Tomorrow is my birthday. I'm still deciding what I want to do. I did want to postpone my birthday celebrations until the opening of the King Tut exhibit in Columbus. Then I found out the exhibit is all reproductions. I'll pass. I'd spend $40 to see the real stuff, but not fakes.

Today's doll is one that the dealer at the doll show didn't know anything about. She was looking for any information, so if you know anything about this doll, please leave a comment, and I'll pass it on to her. Here's the doll.

The doll was given to the dealer by a friend who grew up in England, from what I understand. She looks like a 1960's doll to me. The dealer did have what she was told was the doll's original box.

'Rosebud The world's most beautiful doll'.

Rosebud was a company based in England, so, not the name of the doll, but instead, the name of the company. The box looks like the doll could be as far back as the late 50's. I'm still guessing a 1960's doll though. She is about 20 inches tall, give or take a couple of inches. She has rooted hair and sleep eyes. So if you have any idea who this doll is, please let us know.

That's today's doll. We'll see what tomorrow has in store.

A Happy Easter with an Old Cottage Doll

Happy Easter and Passover to everyone. I thought I'd share some cheery Spring pictures of the doll Ken gave me for Easter today.

She's an Old Cottage doll.  I've been wanting one for a while, but they can be expensive. I found this girl online recently for a good price though, and Ken bought her for me without my knowing.

Old Cottage dolls were made in England.

The company was started in 1948 by Margaret Fleischmann.

Margaret was originally from Czechoslovakia, but moved to England in 1939.

Margaret began by making dolls for her daughter Susi, who later helped her run the company.

The faces of Old Cottage dolls are hard composition or hard plastic. As you can see, my girl has some cracks in her face.

The dolls were available in a couple of sizes. This girl is about 9 inches tall. The bodies are padded wire, covered with felt.

I didn't know until I got this girl, that she can move her head side to side, and her arms and legs are jointed too.

The hair is mohair.

This doll does have some moth damage to her felt limbs too. The felt must be made of wool. It was in those days. Now the felt available in places like JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby is acrylic.

Her dress, which is made of a crepe like fabric, even has matching bloomers.

Her dress is removable and closes in the back with hook and eye closures.

In the 60's the BBC comissioned Old Cottage Dolls to make a set of Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee dolls. The dolls were also available to the public. I'd love to have a set of those!

Doll-A-Day 2019 #96: Kathleen

Well,if it's not one thing it's another. The back is better, the hip is much better although still giving me trouble, but now I have the flu! I think I caught it from Emma. When we took Ivy back to college Emma had what she thought was a sinus infection. I think it must have been the flu. She was pretty sick the other day. I got pretty sick last night and had a horrible chill. Today I feel awful. Luckily I photographed today's girl yesterday!
Today's doll is one you're probably either going to love or hate. She's this girl.

As for me,I love her.

I know she's a little unusual,but that's her appeal for me.

She's marked Pedigree,Made in England.

I researched and found out that she's from a series of Pedigree dolls called Delite dolls, and that she appears in the 1953 Pedigree catalog.

There was more than one type of Delite doll. The series of Delite dolls this girl comes from were made to resemble Storybook or Fairytale characters, or dolls from different countries. This girl is named Kathleen, and presumably represents Ireland. She's about 7 1/2 inches tall.

She has what are called the 'starfish hands'.

Her eyes are what will probably put some people off.

They're sleep eyes, and are somewhat googly.

That's it for today. See you again tomorrow.
