Doll-A-Day 2023 #33: Barbie Basics No. 03

Today we're looking at a doll that I love. I wish I had this doll. This one belongs to Emma, and she grabbed it from her childhood bedroom while clearing up fire stuff at the house recently. She's a Barbie Basics doll.

Remember the Barbie Basics dolls? They were really great dolls. The clothes were fairly simple, but the faces and some of the hairstyles were wonderful.

For being 'Basics', these dolls were pretty extra.

We saw Ivy's Barbie Basics dolls HERE, HERE, and HERE. This particular Barbie Basics doll is  Model #3, from Collection 1.5.

There were several different face sculpts used for the Barbie Basics dolls.

This one has the very popular Steffie sculpt.

Maybe it's just because she's been in her box for years, and her curl has relaxed, but her hair isn't nearly as curly as the picture on her box.

In fact, it's pretty straight.

It is red though. this is the Barbie Basics doll I would have bought, if I had bought one.

I have realized that this doll is basically My Melody Barbie with 'evening make-up' on.

Like the other dolls in the line, she is dressed in black.

She has a little hot pink belt for, as they says these days, 'a pop of colour'.

  Her shoes are also black.

Like all the Barbie Basics line, this doll has the Model Muse body.

Did you notice the price on that sticker? Yes, Emma got this doll for $9.94!

Where was I then?!

That's today's doll. Tomorrow is Ken's birthday, and we will be traveling to Indiana to see a play Ivy worked on the costumes for. But there will be a doll! See you then.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #334: Birthday Beauties Miss Topaz

Today we finish up Ivy's birthday month and a month of her dolls with this lady.

She's from the 2007 Birthday Beauties series.

She's Miss Topaz.

Topaz, which is a brown stone, is the birthstone for November. Miss Topaz has a topaz necklace.

Ivy hates topaz. She wants a new birthstone! I think it's pretty, much prettier than mine. Mine is aquamarine.

The doll also has a bracelet.

This is her original dress.

The dress closes in the back with snaps.
She also has her original brown mules. They seem to be a direct copy of the original Barbie mules.

I think this was one of the prettiest doll from the series. She has fair skin and red hair, and brown eyes.

I've said before what a hard combination that is to find on a doll. Fuzzy and I have red hair and brown eyes, and it is a bit uncommon, But doll makers seem to think all red haired people have blue eyes. Ivy has red hair, but her eyes have never been brown. They started out the same blue as Ken's. Then they changed over the years to what they are now. Ivy describes it as green with brown in the middle. Ivy is an extremely rare individual. Red heads make up only one to two percent of the world's population. Red hair and green eyes is the rarest hair and eye combination. And besides that, Ivy is a lefty, for most things. Some things she does left handed, and there are some things she uses her right hand for. Left handed people make up about ten percent of the world's population, while mixed handedness,or,the change of hand preference depending on the task, is something found in only about one percent of the population. Put all of her rare qualities together, and that makes Ivy one rare person indeed.
This doll has the popular Steffie head sculpt.

She also has the Model Muse body.

She originally came with a tiny chihuahua on a leash too.

"Where's my dog?!"

That's the doll for today, and that concludes the month of Ivy's dolls. We'll see more of them at some point though. Coming soon is a new doll review! Stay tuned! In the meantime, see you tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #327: Barbie Basics 001 Model 11

Today's doll is another Barbie Basics doll.

This particular Barbie Basics doll is from 2009.

She's from the 001 series. She's model 11.

She originally came in a black dress. I haven't seen it around Ivy's things,so I've redressed her in a dress I found in Ivy's doll clothes. I don't know where it's from.

This doll has the Teresa head sculpt, which has been one of my favourites since Mattel started using it.

She has the Model Muse body...I think. Or is that only if she has her arm in the hand on hip position?

That's the doll for today. Come back tomorrow when we'll continue to see some of Ivy's dolls.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #314: Barbie Basics Doll 004

Ken and Ivy didn't want to go back to Indiana yesterday,so I had trouble getting them out of the house. It's a four and a half hour drive each way. By the time I got them on the road,it made coming home very late. We had to stop and sleep a bit in order to make it home safely. We got home way into the morning, so my post was delayed. But I'm catching up by doing two posts today. My year of daily posts is nearly up,and I'm not ruining my record now!
Today's doll is one of Ivy' again. She's this lady.

She's a Barbie Basics doll.

She's from the 001 collection. She's model 04.

Ivy has redressed her in 2010's So In Style Kara's dress. She would have originally come in a short, black dress.

She has the Model Muse body.

She also has the Goddess face sculpt.

I thought she would have rooted eyelashes, but she doesn't.

I don't know what the difference in her vinyl is,but she is a dust magnet. I wiped her down several times during her photo shoot, but she still managed to be covered with dust as soon as I was finished cleaning her off.
That's it for this doll. My usual post for the day will be up later. See you then, and again tomorrow for another doll.
