Doll-A-Day 2019 #332: Jolly Dolly

Well, it's Thanksgiving, and time once again for Dexter Madison. Share the fantasy!
Today's doll is two: these little guys.

They're Jolly Dolly dolls.

And they want you to know it!
They were made by Zapf.

They want you to know that too. It's printed on their bodies...

...and their clothes.
Zapf also made Baby Born dolls. There were lots of Jolly Dollys. This is from a Zapf booklet that was in Ivy's stuff. It probably came with a Baby Born doll.

There were also Jolly Dollys with rooted hair.

They weren't all stuffed either. there were all vinyl ones. This booklet says they all came with a frog. But the first Jolly came with a cat, and the second one came with nothing at all.

They had clothing sets available for them. Ivy also has one of the tiny Jolly Dollys pictured at the top of the right hand page. They are about 4 inches tall.

Ivy got these when she was very small,so it would have had to be just either side of 2000. Her first was the little guy with his shirt missing.

I found his pants, his hat, and his cat,but not his shirt.

We always just called him Jolly. Her second Jolly Dolly was one that took batteries and giggles when his stomach was pressed. I found his whole outfit. He didn't come with a cat.

I found his hat later.

He's a little bigger than the first Jolly Dolly. I would say they are 10 and 12 inches tall. Or maybe 12 and 14. I was going to measure them, but when I went to get my yard stick I remembered I took it down stairs to measure some stuff for Ivy's room redo. So I had to eyeball it. I'm pretty good at that by now.

They are cute little guys. My favourite is the non giggling one.

Today would have been Ken's mother's 97th birthday. We never got to meet each other's mothers. I think I would have liked Dora though.

Those are today's dolls. See you tomorrow for another doll. Happy Thanksgiving!

Doll-A-Day 2019 #71: Baby Born Mini World

I'm off to Georgia tomorrow, with Lori, to help her look at houses. While I'm gone Ken will be making sure my scheduled posts go on. I'll talk to you all next week.
Today's doll may look familiar, but it's not the common version you may know.

It's mini Baby Born doll, from the Baby Born Mini World line.

The rag doll is from a Barbie's sister Kelly set.
Like it's full size counterpart, this little kid was made by Zapf.

The tiny one has the exact same body, chubby leg wrinkles, and slightly creepy eyes as the big one.

This version of Baby Born measures about 4 1/2" tall.

The Mini World dolls were especially cool because they all came with a room or environment, complete with furniture and/or accessories.  For instance, there was a nursery, a living room, and a bathroom,as well as a picnic area by a pond, and other outside environments. All the furniture and accessories were decorated with a little yellow duck.

All the box inserts could be stacked together to make a house, and a yard, etc.

Why is there a pond below the bathroom? Is the house flooded?
This doll is wearing the dress from the picnic set. (I know I have the picnic basket somewhere, but...you know.)

I loved these sets because they came with so many cute accessories. Ivy loved them too. Consequently, she had several of these sets.  I know she has the living room set.

This is the cake from the birthday set, that also included a table and chair. I just have these, but Ivy has the set.

The cake has holes for three candles. This kid is three?

I know she had a Christmas themed one, and I had a Halloween themed one, with the baby in a witch costume.

There  were also outfit sets made for the mini Baby Born. I don't think we ever bought any of those though.

The Baby Born mini baby is cute little thing. I think it's much cuter in this size than the big Baby Born, even though they have the same face.

  Tomorrow is another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #31: Zapf Doll

Well, my shoulders are a bit better today. I had to have Ken press on them several times this morning,as the pain kept coming back. I could stand some pain, but this is severe pain when ever I move my arm at the shoulder. You do that a lot more than you realize, even when doing small things, like scratch your head, and it really becomes evident when it hurts to do it! I kept heat on my shoulders all day today,so hopefully all that will be working itself out.
Today's doll is this little girl.

I doubt this is her original dress, but I think it was on her when I got her.

She's made by Zapf, but that's all I know about her.

If anybody knows her name, please let me know.
She's about 16" tall, with long light brown hair.

She has a cloth body, with vinyl limbs and head.

She has warm, brown sleep eyes and 'real' lashes, and little pink lips.

Zapf dolls tend to have realistic, glowing complexions, and this doll is no exception.
Tomorrow we'll see another doll, and hopefully my shoulders will be cooperating!

Doll-A-Day 2017 #36: Zapf Balica Baby

Today's doll is this Zapf Balica baby.

She's 19" long.
She doesn't have bald spots, just bed head.

This is her original outfit.

She's marked 1997 on the back of her neck, and I identified her as a Zapf Balica doll, but other than that I don't know anything about her.

I got her unintentionally, in an auction box. I can't remember what was in the box that I wanted. This poor girl doesn't really appeal to me though.
Sorry. You're just not my type. She has sleep eyes and her little baby bracelet.
She has a vinyl head and limbs and a soft, stuffed body.
And a very embarrassingly placed spot on her undies...

She has a really thick head of hair.
But as I said, a case of bed head.

See you tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 269: Soft Dolls Week: Maggie Raggies Rachel

First of all, welcome Mommy and Me Dolls, our latest follower!
Continuing Soft Dolls Week, today we are looking at Rachel.

She's a Maggie Raggies doll.

Check those bangs!

Maggie Raggies were a line of soft dolls made by Zapf from 2002 to 2007. They were sold in the U.S., but were a German product.

Maggie Raggies came in several sizes.

Like this Maggie Raggies baby.

Rachel is about 12" tall.
Rachel's legs look a little watery. I think she's "hankering for a hunk of cheese." (Time for Timer! To find out what I'm talking about, check out the animated 70's PSA for healthy snacks HERE  .)

There were larger Maggie Raggies too, including Sweetie Singer, who, duh! sang! The larger, 18"  Maggie Raggies had wire in their arms and legs for posing.

Rachel barely even has stuffing in hers.

The shoes are cute though.

She has Velcro on her hands, as they all did, so they could hold an accessory, each other's hands, their own hands, etc. She came with a stuffed yellow duck to hold, which I don't have.

Rachel's bangs are supposed to lay down, but they won't.

I thought the Maggie Raggies were so cute. I didn't buy any new, but when they hit yard sales and thrift stores I have to admit to having bought...a few...

Tomorrow we'll see another soft doll.
