Doll-A-Day 2023 #86: 'Originals by Sharon' Creepy Baby

This doll came from the water soaked room in our house. It's fine now, as far as being wet or mildewed. Otherwise...

Otherwise, it's a weirdie.

Okay, this doll creeps me out. I have no idea what the person who made this doll was thinking, but, just, no.

It's about 6 or 7 inches tall, with a porcelain face, and an otherwise stuffed, soft body.

And when I say 'face', I mean just that. The face is just a face, with no back to the head, That's why the head looks so flat. Whoever made it didn't bother to stuff the back of the head to make a head shape. That may have made a difference to how I feel about this abomination.

This may have been a homemade doll, or a 'craft doll', made by someone who had their own tags made, the way you can buy cloth tags with your name in them to put in clothes you make. Because it does have a tag. The tag says, 'Mother-Daughter Doll House/Originals by Sharon'.

Somebody get this thing out of my house, (or, rather, Emma's house.). It has been hand washed and air dried, since I couldn't send the porcelain head through the washing machine/dryer. It has no mold or mildew, and never did, somehow. I just washed everything that was in the box to freshen it up. Take this doll away. I just ask that you pay the shipping.

Tomorrow we'll see something more pleasant.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #85: Lady and Her Baby

Today we're looking at another rescue-ee from The House of Fire. It's this lady and her baby.

She's possibly Mexican or South American.

For those of you who have just popped in, our house caught fire in January. No injuries except my inflamed lungs, but we did have a burned room, and water damage in the room below it. This lady happened to be in a box in that room.

When Ken brought her box here, she and her fellow box inhabitants were on their way to ruin. This lady was still wet, and was starting to mildew. No fear. I rescued her.
She's about 11 or 12 inches tall, made of cotton, and firmly stuffed. She has a baby on her back.

She has yarn, or thick thread hair, and she and her baby have embroidered faces.

Her sandals are embroidered too.

She was washed in the washing machine, and dried on a hot setting. She has been very dry for weeks now, and only has minimal faint mildew stain spots that are hidden under her clothes. If I were keeping her I could even get rid of the mildew stains by using Stain Devils. (Read my review of how amazing Stain Devils is HERE.)

Like this faint place on her torso, which is covered by her clothes.

And these faint spots on her legs, which are covered by her skirt.

She feels fine now, and looks very happy.

But she was never intended to be kept. She came in a box I got at an auction, and I always intended to,,,sorry lady...get rid of her. If anybody wants her, free but for the shipping, (which can be done in an envelope---a water proof envelope. Not taking any chances on that happening again!), just let me know. Remember, if you want her, leave your contact information with your comment. It won't be published.  If somebody would like to give her and her baby a home, she'd be even more happy!
That's the doll for today. See you again tomorrow.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #13: Vintage 'Miss America' Doll... and She's Free!

I am still at Emma's, and will be indefinitely. For those of you following the story of the fire, I actually learned from Ken today that he found me laying on the floor of the landing, and dragged me to the top of the stairs. I was getting impossible to drag and he couldn't breathe and had little strength left. He had to go down to the first landing to breathe himself. The neighbour was banging on the door and he managed to go the rest of the way down and let her in, and she then helped him get me on my feet and down the stairs. I had no idea I had actually fallen. I just remember thinking I was pretty close to it. I can't imagine how scared Ken was, with me nearly passed out, and him getting closer to it himself, and not able to get me out of there.

I feel stupid and pointless even writing the blog. But there isn't much I can do from here. Today I scrub a couple of things, but I am waiting on some laundry soap and white vinegar to hand wash the Christmas stockings, which were still laying in the bedroom, waiting to be put away. They got pretty blackened from the smoke. Most of them will be easy to clean, but I am afraid to wash my stocking. I've had it since childhood, and my mom wrote my name on it with marker. I'm afraid her handwriting will wash out.

Today's doll has had an unusual path to the blog. Just before the fire I received an email from a lady who had come across the blog, and wanted to know if I took donations of dolls! She offered to send me pictures if I was interested, and if I wanted them, mail them to me...at her expense! Quite a generous offer! But they are her childhood dolls, and she just wanted to find them a good home. That's very sweet.

So, I obviously can't take the dolls myself at this point. I couldn't put them in my house, as we are trying to clear up such a stinky, smoky, wet mess. So I told her, if she sent me more pictures, I would feature the dolls on the blog, and let you all know that they are available for adoption. All her dolls come with some clothing, which I will also show you pictures of. Some of it may be homemade, but some of the clothes are obviously factory made. I was able to at least partially identify most of the dolls, as she went back and took pictures of the markings for me, once I told her where to look. If anybody can identify  any of the dolls or clothing I couldn't identify, please leave a comment, even if you aren't interested in adopting. I'll update the blog. That will help others to find them.

She was willing to send the dolls at her cost, but if she is sending them out individually, not only is that a lot of trouble for her, but also pretty expensive. So if any of you are interested in adopting one of her lovies, please offer to pay shipping for her.

The owner says all the dolls are basically from the 1950's. The first doll is dressed as Miss America. I'm not sure if that's a homemade outfit, or her original. It does have a crown.

She has no markings, so I wasn't able to figure out who she is.

Or is that something near the joint in her neck, on the left?

She's 18 inches tall. I would say she was a competitor for Miss Revlon.

She comes with some clothes.

The green dress with plaid trim looks familiar.

So there's the first free doll. I hope someone would love to give this lady a home. If you can add any information, for the benefit of the post, or to help a future owner find her, please leave a comment. If you are interested in the doll, please leave a comment with contact information, (which won't be published.), and I will put you in contact with the owner.

Another Free Doll Up For Grabs! And Another Virtual Doll Show

I have another 'free but for the shipping' doll if someone wants her. She's been featured on the blog, and she's been on the sales page for a while. She was made by Eegee, and as far as I can tell, she's wearing her original dress and shoes.

Recently I came across her and somehow she has gotten her arm hole broken. She's old plastic, and somehow the plastic has shattered around one arm. Her arm went back on, and it's staying, helped by her dress. She could be repaired, but I'm not going to do it. There is a page that shows how to repair plastic dolls HERE. If anybody wants to take her on, she's free other than shipping costs.

I put a few more dolls on the sales page too, so you might want to have a look and see if any of your favourite dolls from the blog have ended up there.

Other than the sales page, if you're missing shopping for dolls, there's  the Holiday 2020 Showcase Event, a virtual Doll Show of sorts, being held November 27th through the 30th. You can find out the details HERE.
