Doll-A-Day 2017 #280:Shrunken Saturday: Pink Heather Rose

If you read my sob story the other day about how the yard waste guys ignored my stuff the week before last, you'll be glad to hear that they picked it up on Friday! Yay!  Now my cans are empty again and I can clear up all the leaves and stuff I left by the curb. Of course, if that was the last pickup of the year I'd be better off   leaving them by the curb. The trouble is, you never know that until it's too late.
Anyway, I had  a nice time this evening. Emma and I went to a family weenie roast. Everybody was in a good mood and we had a good time talking. We were supposed to bring something to add to the food. I finally got around to trying out the famous (in my house anyway!) 'Peanut Butter Pie Sale' recipe. It turned out pretty good and everybody seemed to like it. (If you want to try it I actually posted the recipe, and how it got it's name, HERE.) Afterward I went back to Emma's and we sat around and talked for a couple of hours, just the two of us, which was something we don't get to do very often. So all around it was a good day. (Plus I got a hose reel on wheels for free today!)
So, on to today's doll. It's Shrunken Saturday, when we focus on miniature dolls, usually dollhouse (or 1/12) scale. The doll we're looking today isn't exactly dollhouse scale, unless you want to have it be the main dollhouse resident. She might be a little young to be the head of the house though.

She's a Rosebud Baby.

Her name is Pink Heather Rose.

I found her at the recent flea market.

She was made by Mattel in 1977.

She came with a cradle, but she didn't have it with her when I bought her.

She's 4 1/2" tall.

There were 10 Rosebud Baby's in all. The first seven were named after types of miniature roses, while the remaining 3 had regular names.

The Rosebud Baby sculpt was reused in 1985 to make the somewhat less attractive Heart Family babies.

Later it was also used for the Teacher Barbie kids, and the European Barbie babies. I think the dolls got progressively worse looking. Those Barbie school kids were not very cute. Not to mention, those kids made some pretty huge babies for the Heart Family and Barbie. They were a bit overwhelming. They looked like The Toddlers That Ate Detroit.

You can see what this kid looked like in her box and read some information on the dolls at the Li'l Friends of Kelly page HERE.
Come back tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #78:Babysitter Courtney

I gave you a day off babies yesterday for Shrunken Saturday, but I have a couple more baby sets to show you. Today I have a beautiful Courtney doll for you too.

This is Babysitter Courtney from 1990. She's another of the sets I got at an auction, like the Babysitter Skipper I showed you the other day.

Courtney has the same head sculpt as Skipper, but somehow the darker hair tones down the excesses found in the big eyed, big haired Skipper.

I'm a Skipper collector, but I keep most of my collection to vintage Skipper, through the Mod Era. I have never been overly fond of the big head anime' eyed Skipper, but there are some pretty ones. Even more than that Skipper I like her friend Courtney.

This Courtney has beautiful brown hair and green eyes. I don't care for her outfit though.

The baby is the same as the baby I showed you on Day 67. came with these accessories:soap, a bottle, rattle, blanket, tray, powder?, and doll for the baby...

A cardboard phone, popcorn, and jar of baby food. I hope Courtney and the baby aren't very hungry!
A cardboard pen and pencil too.

A cardboard school book and can of pop. Wouldn't that leave you feeling a little 'dry'?

Apparently, music is an important part of babysitting, and wearing earphones and not being able to hear the baby cry is all important. The Walkman has to be snapped off the frame and put together. It actually opens and can hold the cassette.

A cardboard school folder,a white plastic strap for the Walkman, stickers for the cassette, and a hairbrush.

A cardboard piece of paper(???Couldn't they have made the paper out of paper?)

You can see a commercial for the Babysitter Skipper and Courtney dolls HERE.
Tomorrow we'll start a whole new subject, although it won't be totally free of babies!

Doll-A-Day 2017 #75:Babysitter Skipper

I spent the day today with a daughter,(Emma),and my sister,to celebrate her birthday, which is Sunday. Since our birthdays are 9 days apart we always had to share a birthday celebration when we were kids. But we're also 6 years apart,so that wasn't very popular. And everybody deserves their own day that's all about them. I always made sure my kids were totally spoiled on their birthdays.    Anyway, today I'm showing you the Babysitter Skipper set from 1994.

There are those babies I was talking about last week!

I've come across these babies so many times since 1994!

Now I know what the velcro was for!

These babies are rather 'attached' to Skipper!

And the fabric of Skipper's clothes makes more sense now too. These kids had to stick.

There are three cute babies in this set.

The red head has big curls.

The brunette (my favourite.)has loose waves.

And the blonde has crimped hair.

And all of it gets caught in the velcro, explaining another thing:why these babies so frequently have frizzy hair!

Skipper herself has long, curly hair.

She also has that big head and almost anime' eyes this era of Skipper is known for.
Unfortunately all the babies have blue eyes, even the brunette. What do doll makers have against brown eyes?!

The accessories include  a flat plastic doll,a couple of baby bottles, a divided plate, a spoon,a rattle,a bar of soap,a can of...baby powder?,and a tray?,and a hair brush...

A chart to keep track of which baby has had what done...

...what I'm guessing is a diaper pail...
...and a bag,

which contains...

...bibs for the babies with secret names on them! Funny. All the names used on the sample bibs in the picture were later used for Barbie babies and children. Somebody's psychic or just got lazy. And look at the hairdo on that kid.

Tomorrow will be another set of dolls. See you then.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #72: The Original Barbie Baby from "Barbie Babysits"

Wrapping up our Barbie baby series, today we're looking at the very first Barbie baby. This is the baby from "Barbie Babysits" from 1963.

Barbie Babysits was sold in it's original form for two years.

Here's the baby with some of the accessories from the set:the basket, with liner,Barbie's apron, and box of pretzels.(Because snacking is what baby sitting's all about!) I don't think that's his bottle, but he's not letting go of it!
In 1965 additional accessories were added, including a bonnet,a Christening gown, and a pink blankey for the baby.

The baby measures 3" long. I should have included this baby in the comparison picture, but I had forgotten about this poor kid until the last minute.
He has little knee dimples!

The baby is made of  soft vinyl or plastic.
And knee creases in the back.

He has a little curl at the front of his hair.
It's not quite Ed Grimley...

And molded detail.

The baby came wearing a diaper (with a real safety pin in it,something they'd never allow these days.),and a polka dot kimono.

The fabric that was used for the baby's kimono was also used for a variation version of Tutti's Night Night Sleep Tight Robe and bedspread.

You can see my post on this Tutti rarity I used to own HERE.
Emma brought me the basket she had too, when she brought the apron, and I noticed something.

Hers is pink, and mine is white. Mattel must have just made the basket in two colours.

See you tomorrow for another doll.
