Doll-A-Day 2023 #86: 'Originals by Sharon' Creepy Baby

This doll came from the water soaked room in our house. It's fine now, as far as being wet or mildewed. Otherwise...

Otherwise, it's a weirdie.

Okay, this doll creeps me out. I have no idea what the person who made this doll was thinking, but, just, no.

It's about 6 or 7 inches tall, with a porcelain face, and an otherwise stuffed, soft body.

And when I say 'face', I mean just that. The face is just a face, with no back to the head, That's why the head looks so flat. Whoever made it didn't bother to stuff the back of the head to make a head shape. That may have made a difference to how I feel about this abomination.

This may have been a homemade doll, or a 'craft doll', made by someone who had their own tags made, the way you can buy cloth tags with your name in them to put in clothes you make. Because it does have a tag. The tag says, 'Mother-Daughter Doll House/Originals by Sharon'.

Somebody get this thing out of my house, (or, rather, Emma's house.). It has been hand washed and air dried, since I couldn't send the porcelain head through the washing machine/dryer. It has no mold or mildew, and never did, somehow. I just washed everything that was in the box to freshen it up. Take this doll away. I just ask that you pay the shipping.

Tomorrow we'll see something more pleasant.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #349: The Twenties Bride

Today's doll is this fine lady.

She's a tall lady. I'd say she is about 20 inches tall.
She's from the tub of for sale dolls I started showing you a while back.

She was made by Silvestri.

She represents, what else,a bride from the 1920's.

She has her bouquet.

She has a porcelain head,hands, and feet,and a stuffed cloth body,as I recall.

She was going to be for sale, but when I took her out of the tub I saw that the dress of the Valentine doll you saw a while back had stained the bride's dress red in an area.

That's the doll for today. See you again tomorrow for another, and soon for a review of a new doll!

Doll-A-Day 2019 #302: Days of Double Happiness

Today's doll is another I photographed from the tubs of sale dolls the other week. She's very pretty, but just not the type of doll I collect. She's this pretty lady.

She's 18 inches tall. Her arms are wired for posability.
She's called Days of Double Happiness.

She's from Ashton Drake. She was designed by Judy Belle.

She's porcelain, but I think she has a cloth body. Her wedding ring is painted on her hand.

Look at her delicately painted finger nails.
Her wedding dress is really pretty, with lots of lace and sequins.

Apparently this isn't her bouquet! Her bouquet is made up of red flowers and has a 'double happiness' charm hanging from it.

That's today's doll. I have to get up early tomorrow and make some meringues for Emma's house warming party. It's also a party to play the latest Homestar Runner game, (thus the name of the party, the 'Homestarty'),and the meringues are supposed to look like Strong Sad.

I'll show you if they turn out well!
See you tomorrow for another doll.

Little Red Riding Hood and the Latest on My Thyroid

I'm so behind with things! I said I'd show you some of my Goodwill finds from weeks ago. Here's one of them. This is Little Red Riding Hood.

She was sold by Ashton Drake in 1988.

She was sculpted by Dianna Effner, one of my favourite doll artists.

She has one of those typical sweet Effner children's faces.

This girl was at my favourite Goodwill. She's made of porcelain, with glass eyes.

I prefer vinyl, but I'll make an exception for her.
Her limbs have a wire armature,so they can be posed.

She has great curly hair that's still in good condition.

I think her hood can really go up on her head, but with her hair in such good shape I didn't think I'd risk anything!

She's 14" tall.

She should have a basket with a loaf of bread in it. Her clothes are all there though, including bloomers, undershirt, dress with built in slip and apron, stockings, cape, and shoes.

There is a problem with her shoes!

I could fix them, but it doesn't show,so I may not bother. The white bits of her clothing are browned, but I can get rid of that with some Stain Devils. (I really should do a commercial for them!)

I had my thyroid ultrasound on Monday. You know, the ultrasound my doctor didn't think was necessary because he said, "If you had a goiter I could see it." (A goiter is an enlarged thyroid.) I had to really keep stressing that I was still having trouble swallowing and "there's something going on in my neck!" I pressed for it, and he finally agreed to write an order for one. So,I had it, and guess what:I have a goiter! And not just a goiter, but one with 'multiple nodules'! So now he is sending me to...are you reading this Barb? ...an endocrinologist! After he insisted I couldn't have a goiter! They said they might have to biopsy my nodules. Ack! How do they do that?! Is there a cut involved??!!
My appointment isn't until the 17th of April! I'm still having trouble even with the 2 extra half pills a week,so I hope I do ok until the appointment.I have been feeling pretty bad the day before I add the half pill,as if I've run out of medicine and it really helps when I take more. My heart has been getting fluttery again and some days my throat really feels like I'm being choked. I'll let you know what happens.
