Doll-A-Day 2017 #333: Gotz Modell

Today's doll is a multitalented girl.

She's a Gotz doll.

The plastic tag sewn to her jacket says Gotz Modell.

Her talents include singing and walking.

This is the battery compartment for her singing mechanism. It's huge, and it's in her chest. It's so big it makes her skirt scoot down, and shows through her shirt.

This is her battery compartment for her walking mechanism. Each function takes a different battery size. This one takes AA batteries.

She sings "Jingle Bells".  Her walking sounded like it was going to start for a second, but then it did nothing. We're going to clean out her battery contacts tomorrow and see if we can get her walking. It seems she would walk like Baby First Step if we got her going.

She can also close her eyes, but you have to lay her down for that.

And she has brown eyes.Dolls like this almost always have blue eyes. I appreciate that Gotz  realizes not everybody has blue eyes, or wants a doll with blue eyes.

She has a big fluffy head of ash blonde hair.

She's a big girl, at about 20" tall.

Under her purple jacket she's wearing a knit shell.

At least, that's what those types of sleeveless blouses used to be called. Now everything is a 'top'. 'Top'! That's a placement, not a piece of clothing. That usage really gets on my nerves. Call it a 'shirt'. Call it a 'blouse'. A 'top' is one of those spinning toys!

She looks like she's been working out. Check out those muscley arms.

Her skirt snaps, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to snap in the back, or the side!

I put it in the back.
 It matches her scarf.

I'll update if I get her singing again and let you know what her song is.

Tomorrow we'll see what other doll I have dug up around here lately. I've been surprising myself with what I've been pulling out. As I have said, we used to do doll and toy shows, so we have tons of stuff, and I've been trying to get rid of a lot of things. I've been excited by some of the things I've found to share with you. Some of it's pretty interesting and not often seen. (It certainly hasn't been seen by me in a while!)

Doll-A-Day 2017 #313:Gotz Modell Red Head

This post has been updated. I found out who she is!
Well, we're officially ready for winter now. Ken grudgingly took down his gazebo today and I packed it away in the porch cupboard until next year. As for my battle with the leaf sucker truck and the yard waste guys,I've called a truce on the leaf sucker truck, but the yard waste guys have ticked me off. A couple of weeks ago the leaf sucker truck came by and sucked up all the stuff I had left by the curb! All that pile of stuff, including loads of those little whiplike twigs that fall off the walnut tree. I was stunned and pleased! On the other hand, I started a new bunch of yard waste, which I sat out behind the trash on trash day, like I always do,(Because if it isn't there on trash day they seem to not know to pick it up on yard waste day, which is the day after.),and they totally ignored it for two weeks. I thought maybe yard waste pick up was over for the year. Today the trash guys picked up the trash and the yard waste too. That's fine, except they also took my laundry basket that I was putting twigs and sticks in! If they didn't pick it up for a couple of weeks, why did they take everything including the container today?!Even trash sat out in a laundry basket doesn't mean you want them to take the basket! Geez!
Today's doll is a Gotz baby.

I got this cute, chubby little girl a few years ago at a yard sale.

She has no markings or tags on her,so I had no idea who she is made by or anything. I just liked her,so I brought her home.

Nothing on the back of that neck but wrinkles.

Turns out she's a Gotz Modell. I found one that looks just like her, only in  different dress, online.

Her brown eyes and red hair is a rare combination, which my son Fuzzy and I share with her.

She has sleep eyes.

Her body is stuffed cloth, and she has vinyl arms, legs and head.

Baby fingers.

Her hair is very thickly rooted, and parted in the middle to make two ponytails.

She's 18" tall, but can't stand without support.

I'm guessing this is her original dress. She probably originally had one of those plastic 'Gotz Modell' pins on. She is wearing the same shoes as the girl I saw online, so they are her originals.

The people who owned the other one were assuming she was from the 70's. I don't know that she's that old. if anybody has any information to share, I'd still like to hear from you.

Tomorrow we'll check out another doll. See you then.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #276: Gotz Boy

Remember yesterday when I mentioned going through our old doll show tubs to see what might still be worth having? Well, today we're going to look at another doll from those tubs. He's this guy.

He's a Gotz doll.

Anybody know his actual name?

He has a stuffed cloth body, and vinyl head and limbs.

In spite of his cloth body, he won't really sit down.

But he can turn his head.

He measures 22" tall.

To be honest, I'm looking at this guy, and his red hair, and I'm thinking,"Hmmm...why was it I wasn't keeping this guy?"

If he had brown eyes I'm sure he would have never been for sale!

Actually,I'm sure he was because I needed to make up the money I spent on the box he came in at the auction, which I bid on for something else I really wanted.

I found a picture online of an 18" Gotz doll wearing an outfit pretty similar to this one.

But that doll, apart from being smaller, had the American Girl face. (For those of you who don't know,American Girl bought the molds for their dolls, including Bitty Baby, from Gotz, who had previously used them in Europe.

This guy has a typical Gotz face.

If you look at him though, you can see where American Girl and Bitty Baby came from.

When he came out of the tub, even though I had a plastic bag on his head to keep his hair in place,he had developed a problem with his bangs.

I wet combed them last night and they still don't want to stay out of his face.

There's another doll tomorrow. See you then.
