Doll-A-Day 2017 #365:Shrunken Sunday:Littlest Pet Shop Blythe

This is our last doll of the year, and the very last Doll-A-Day for a while at least! I suppose I should have been prepared with an extra special doll, but with Christmas,my back trouble,my friend's heart troubles, and some of my own, plus everything else that's been going on, I didn't even think  of that! I hope nobody is disappointed!
She should have been yesterday's doll, and part of the Shrunken Saturday posts. She's just going to have to be a Shrunken Sunday instead.

She's a Littlest Pet Shop Blythe.

She's a fitting one for me to have because she's 'Fabulously Vintage',and so
 are most things I like.

She's dressed for a party,so I guess it's a New year's Party

She's only 4" tall.

Blythe originally appeared in the 60's, as much larger dolls,(They can wear Skipper sized clothes.)

While this little girl has plain  inset eyes, the original Blythe dolls had large eyes that could change colour by spinning to a different eye side with the pull of a string located on their backs.

Those Blythes are super collectible (and expensive!) these days,as are the more recent remakes. I'll stick with this girl!

As with the full size Blythe dolls, this kid has one big head!

It makes her top heavy. She couldn't stand on those tiny little feet with that head, even if she had her missing shoes!

Once again I'm using my really cool "Matrix" staircase. I love this thing!

I originally intended this post for the day Ken and I went to Tiffin for Ken to see his all time favourite, Olivia Newton John,in concert.(We only got one ticket because A: I wanted him to have the best seat possible, which meant that, at almost $100,we couldn't get two like that! and B: She has never been my thing at all, so it would have been wasted on me anyway, and he might as well get the most out of it.) As it happened, we went into a collectibles shop, and they had this very doll,in her box no less.

So, this marks the end of this year's Doll-A-Day. I'll still be around, and plan to do a Doll-of-the-Week. You just won't see me every day...unless I decide to do this again sometime!

Doll-A-Day 2017 #350:Shruken Saturday:Peter Pan and the Pirates Wendy Doll

For this week's shrunken Saturday, the doll I'm showing you is Wendy, from the Fox TV series Peter Pan and the Pirates.

The series only lasted one year, from 1990 to 1991.

The Wendy in the series looked like this. Hey, her eyes are blue, not green.
There were 65 episodes. You can watch them HERE

The toys were made by THQ in 1991.

Here's a Wendy in her package.'Removable dress and soft, brushable hair.
There were several characters made in this series, plus a set of plush dolls. As you'll notice from this picture of the back of Wendy's package, the prototype Wendy was a lot different from the actual production doll. She had a very different face,a painted bodice and cloth skirt, her shoes were pink, her crown was white, and her eyes were a lot less staring than the actual doll's.

"Action figures and miniature dolls". Why don't the girls get to be action figures too?

Sorry about the bug eyes thing.

 Wendy is 4 1/2" tall.

Her dress is,as her package says, removable, and the little head band is too.

The rest of her clothes are painted on,as with her tights and shoes...

...or made as part of her molded white body and arms.(Her hands are the painted part.)

She is jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips,so she can turn her head side to side, raise her arms, and sit.

My kids never actually watched the show, since my oldest, Emma, was born in 1991. (The show apparently ran in reruns for an additional year, but she was still a bit young!) The dolls lingered in Kay Bee toys for years. Wendy appealed to me, and finally I bought her for myself. Emma always coveted her though, and eventually I gave her to Emma.

She's on her way to Emma's house now that her photo shoot is over. See you tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #343: Shrunken Saturday:Dolly Darlings John

The worst shopping day ever. It was bad enough that Ivy wanted taken to Emma's by 5:30,instead of 5, like she told me the other day. That wasn't going to leave me much time to do the things I planned to do. I was going to drop her off, go during the other 20 minutes to some stores I needed to do some quick Christmas shopping at,and then come home and rearrange things in the living room to make room for the tree. As it turned out,I missed shopping at two of the places I needed to get to most. that was because most of my evening, and my night, was taken up with car trouble. The car kept over heating,in spite of the new radiator we got recently, and the almost whole jug of antifreeze/coolant I put in. By the time I got where I was going I was too late to shop at one place because it closed before I finished at Hallmark, and the other closed before I finished with another place. Then what should have taken me about 20 minutes--getting back to Emma's--- took me almost an hour and a half, because the car kept getting hot after only 2 to 5 minutes of driving, and taking longer to cool down. In the end Emma had to take us home. Now Ken and I have to go back tomorrow evening after he gets off work and try to get the car home somehow.
Anyway! Today's Shrunken Saturday doll is this little guy.

His name is John.

This is much bigger than life size,so his rough face shows up.

He's a Dolly Darling.

The Dolly Darlings were a series of tiny dolls made by Hasbro.

He's wearing a Bratz Babies shirt. The other stuff is a mystery, but he was naked. I was lucky to find anything that fit him, because he's tiny.

I've read that they are 4 1/2" tall, but I measured John at 4".

John is from a line called the 'Hatbox Dolls',because they came in round 'hat boxes',with clear plastic lids.

His hair has streaky detailing.
John was the only Dolly Darlings male doll.

He was available in 1965.

He came wearing a sleeveless white shirt with a red tie, a blue and white checked sports coat with a crest on the breast pocket, and blue shorts. His blue knee socks and brown shoes are painted on.

"Hello. My name is John. Who are you?"

He was called John and his Pets.

Nothing but sniffing from the rabbit. But John edges closer, being careful not to scare him.
He came with two dogs, two cats, a yellow duck, a can of cat food, four pieces of white fencing, and a pretend book called  'How to Teach Cats'. Pretend is right! You can't teach cats! (That's not true. Our cat Mow has been taught not to climb on the table, and he's very good about it.)

"Please don't be scared.I like animals."

The rabbit comes further out of the gate. John stands very still.
The other Dolly Darlings were released later with rooted hair, but not John.

Finally John is able to get very close. He stands still so the rabbit can sniff him and get to know him.

He,and some of the girls, were available as paper dolls though.

Today was our first real snowfall of the winter.

This fence decoration has yellowed terribly.I think I may have to get a Tom Sawyer doll to paint it.

That's it for this week's Shrunken Saturday. See you tomorrow for another wintery doll.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #336: Shrunken Saturday: Glamour Gals

I mentioned a while back that I was getting a really good crop of walnuts off my black walnut trees this year. I had a load of them saved in the old rabbit cage, which was empty, since we lost Jerome back in the summer. That way they could they be outside and dry and not get stolen by all the squirrels that always steal my pears and walnuts. That was working great for a while, as long as the gazebo was up. I had the cage out in the sun to dry the walnuts, and when it looked like rain I dragged it into the gazebo so they would stay dry. Then we took the gazebo down and there was nothing but the patio table to protect them from the rain. That didn't work. The cage filled with water and I had to dump it. Then it got filled again, and it rained for over a week,so they just lay in there and soaked. I tried dumping  it again, but it just kept raining. On top of that, even though the cage was still shut all the way, dumping it with all those heavy walnuts in there had caused the collapsible sides to come undone a bit. I don't see how,but somehow the squirrels were getting in and stealing the nuts. I knew this because the cage became surrounded by empty hulls. The rain caused the hulls to stain the patio black with walnut hull water. (That is how they make walnut stain for wood, isn't it?) I finally gave up and just took the lid off the cage so the squirrels could just take the rest of the nuts. Luckily I had brought a lot of nuts in the house and dried them, taking up every stray surface in the kitchen with nuts in trays and aluminum pans. So I do still have some walnuts, but not the huge haul I should have had.
Anyway, today is Shrunken Saturday, when we look at miniature dolls. This week's mini dolls are these girls.

They're Glamour Gals.

This scary looking girl is Erin.

AHHH!!!

She's wearing a Glamour Gals outfit called Hawaiian Holiday.

This is Vanessa in Softly Suited.

This is Jessie in Wedding Belle.

Glamour Gals were made by Kenner from 1981 to 1983.

There was a case, a house,a red sports car,and playsets.
The dolls are 4 1/2" tall, and, some, like these girls have removable clothing. There were some dolls with molded and painted on clothes. The shoes are painted on.

There are holes in the bottoms of their feet so they can be attached to their posing stands.

They have twist waists and bendy legs.

There were 16 dolls in all, 8 females and 8 males.

There's a doll blog with a page with tons of information on the Glamour Gals, which you can visit HERE.

They remind me a lot of the Melanie's Mall dolls Emma, and later Ivy,had when they were kids.
These girls were scattered around here, and in going through everything like I have recently, I found them all and put them together, and in researching this post I found that I also have a pair of Glamour Gals chaps from a cowgirl outfit. Anyway, now that they are all rounded up they can leave here together.
Tomorrow we're getting back to the Christmas theme. See you then.
