Flea Market VS Thrift Store Part 3: Tiffany Taylor

Here we are, finally getting to the end of a day that happened weeks ago! It's taken a while. Apart from the fact that I have had other things I had to do, I have been dragging this summer. I am always really tired. At first I thought it was the heat, but I have been that way even when it's cooler. It's not quite as bad when it's cooler, but it's always like I haven't slept or sat down for about two days.
To take up where we left off in the last post,we're going to look at the other doll  bought at the thrift store that day. She's this beautiful lady.

I think she needs her tooth space painted though.
She's Tiffany Taylor.

She was made by Ideal in 1974 and 1975.

She came in both Caucasian and African American versions, although both had the same head sculpt.

Tiffany is 19" tall. Like the smaller Tuesday Taylor,(which you can see HERE.),Tiffany Taylor had a hair gimmick: her hair colour could be changed by rotating her scalp. The Caucasian Tiffany had hair that changed from brunette to platinum blonde. The African American version has brunette and auburn hair.

Tiffany has rooted eyelashes.

She originally came in a sparkly gold bathing suit with a long chartreuse skirt cover up,and chartreuse mules.

This doll is wearing the right shoes, but she's wearing the dress that originally came on Country Fashion Crissy in 1981.

The other weird thing is her hair. It's in curlers!

I wouldn't think so much about that except she's not the first I've seen in the curlers and plastic. In fact, it's not even the only one I've seen with the hair curlers and the Country Fashions Crissy dress! After I got her I looked her up to see how rare she might be. One of the first things I found was one on Ebay who was nude, but wearing the curlers and plastic. After that I found one in the curlers and plastic, wearing her own shoes and the outfit from the Electraman doll. It was on this very informative site about Crissy dolls, which also has a lot of information about Tuesday and Tiffany Taylor: Crissy and Beth,The Ultimate Guide on Crisy Family Dolls  According to that site, the doll was sold at an Ideal employees store to liquidate the last of the Tiffany Taylor stock. You can see the Tiffany dressed as Electraman HERE.
During further research I found another in curlers and plastic. She was wearing the wrong shoes, but she was also wearing the Country Fashions Crissy dress! This is a sale listing from 2011,so I don't feel bad about showing you the actual photo here. The blog it's from is no longer active and I'm sure you can't still buy the doll.

So it seems that the dolls sold in the employee stores were also dressed in the Country Fashions Crissy dress. The weird thing is,Country Fashions Crissy was sold in 1981 and 1982. As far as I can see, Tiffany was long finished by then.
Whatever the case, this doll is absolutely beautiful, isn't she?

She's so original that it seems a shame to take her curlers out. But wouldn't she be gorgeous with her hair down, and a nice outfit on?

Next time we'll see what I got in my trade with my Flickr friend.

Doll-A-Day 243: Red Heads Week: Cinnamon

This week we're looking at red haired dolls. Today's doll is Cinnamon.

Cinnamon was made by Ideal in 1971.

 She's about 12" tall.

She is a member of the Crissy family of dolls.

In spite of having red hair like Crissy, Cinnamon is actually Crissy's cousin, since she's Crissy's cousin  Velvet's little sister.

The Crissy dolls all had a grow hair feature.

Cinnamon has a button in her belly that, when pushed, allows a chunk of hair in the top of her head to be pulled out to reach nearly to her ankles.
You can sort of see the dark spot that is the button through her clothes.

She has a dial in her back that winds the hair back in, so it can be short again.

Halfway there.

There were several versions of Cinnamon, including Curly Ribbons, Hair Doodler, and an African American version.

Cinnamon's original outfit was a one or two piece orange play suit with tiny white polka dots.

I have no idea who this pink with white polka dot play suit originally went to, but the sweater belongs to a stuffed Emily Elizabeth, (Clifford the Big Red Dog's friend.)

She's such a cute little thing. Look at those chubby knees!

And the teeth. Gotta love the teeth.

And NO freckles! Thank you Ideal. (We don't all have freckles.)
Famous natural red heads in history include composer Antonio Vivaldi,Thomas Jefferson,James Joyce, Vincent Van Gogh,Galileo,Mark Twain, Winston Churchill,Malcolm X, Queen Elizabeth the First of England,Lady Emma Hamilton(Model for painters such as Gainsborough and Reynolds), Emily Dickinson,Socrates,Helen of Troy,Napoleon,Christopher Columbus,Oliver Cromwell,General George Custer(Of 'last stand' fame.),King David,(Ok, and Judas too...).
When people are asked to think of famous red heads, most often they think of people who weren't really red heads. For example:

Lucille Ball was naturally brown haired. Other famous red heads who aren't/weren't include Julie Andrews,Alyson Hannigan,Rita Hayworth,Gillian Anderson,Amy Adams,Molly Ringwald,Ann Margaret, and Carol Burnett.
Famous real red heads in entertainment, past and present, include actor and director Ron Howard,Julianne Moore,Lindsey Lohan,Tina Louise,(Ginger from Gilligan's Island really is one.),Billie Burke, (The Wizard of Oz's Glinda the Good Witch),Conan O'Brien,actor/singer Danny Kaye,

Danny Kaye in the original Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
ballerina and actress Moira Shearer,

Moira Shearer in "The Red Shoes".
singer Bonnie Raitt, actor and dancer James Cagney,

James Cagney
Laurel and Hardy's Stan Laurel,

Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel. You find a real, (not colourized.), colour photo of Stan when his hair was still red.
actor and artist Red Skelton,

Red Skelton.
Spencer Tracey and Katherine Hepburn.
Katherine Hepburn in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".
But just about the most famous natural red head is one you would never think of. Recognize this girl?

Maybe you would recognize her better this way...

Know her now? I thought so.
See you tomorrow for more red haired dolls and red hair trivia.

Doll-A-Day 7:Frank Sinatra, The continuing story of the MIllion Crissy Dolls, plus, What I Bought on my Christmas Vacation

Remember ALL 52 of those Crissy and family dolls I saw at Goodwill? Well I was there on New Year's eve, (Yes. I live THAT exciting a life.) and they were ALL gone. The counter person said once people started buying them they were buying several at a time. Emma went to Salvation Army a couple of days ago and they still had a shelf full. She found one that was definitely NOT there when I was there, so I guess they put more out after I was there.
After Christmas Ken and I went to a couple of different Walgreens and between the two trips we got these cool little lamp posts for $2.50 each.
My kind of town, Chicago is...

They light up. They're a little short for 1/6 scale, but not too bad.  One of the tops is crooked, but I'm afraid I'd ruin it if I tried to detach it and glue it back on the right way.Ivy hates them because she thinks they look awful.
A hat's not a hat, 'til it's tilted...You've either got or you haven't got....style

I think they could look a lot better, but they'll look ok from a distance or in photos.
I don't like the molded in wreath. It looks fake, and also, it doesn't give you the option of NOT having a wreath, so you could use it for non holiday pictures.I plan to cover it with real (fake) greenery and maybe put a cloth bow on it. I don't know of any way to completely disguise the wreath, and it's molded in, so you can't even try to break it off.
And that brings us to today's Doll-A-Day.Today is Frank Sinatra.

This is Frank,The Recording Years, produced by Mattel in 2000. (There is also a Barbie Loves Frankie Sinatra set, with a younger version of Frank.)He came with a plastic music stand and some sheet music, but unfortunately his microphone was only cardboard. I never liked Frank Sinatra. (My kids like Frank Sinatra!)  Admittedly, I grew up in the era of middle aged and older Frank, when, in my opinion, his voice wasn't as strong as it had been when he was young.(My kids were introduced to Frank through the old MGM movies of the 40's, so they came in on the better stuff.) But I love a doll of a real person that really looks like them, so I had to have this Frank. The likeness is excellent.

Who put all this lipstick on me?! Somebody's gonna pay for this!
...and did it myyyyy waaay

His suit is beautifully done.
Tiny pin stripes.

The shirt isn't removeable unless you cut it off though, so you can't use the suit on anybody else, unless you don't mind if the shirt isn't as form fitting. It's sewn shut and has a strap through the crotch to keep it tucked in and smooth. Frank has the same jointed body as the 40th anniversary Ken,some later Ken princes, and Lord of the Rings Legolas, to name a few. The body is fairly thin, and has jointed knees and elbows, a jointed waist, and the legs give at the hips so they can move outward as well as back and forth. You can see this best in the first picture. It allows Frank to be posed in some of his singing poses. He can  also do this pose...
Strangers in the night...scooby dooby doo...

I've got you under my skin
When the kids were little we did play with him a bit. He appeared at Emma's doll concerts I believe, and I know he made a cameo in a doll movie she made as a kid.By the way, that's Frank's hat, but not his trench coat.

He borrowed that from a doll we'll find out more about tomorrow.
