Doll-A-Day 2019 #191: A Doll of My Own Making,Tiny Lady in Flowered Dress

Today we're on Day 190! So far, so good! And today we're looking at another doll I made. She's one of my faourites.

She's under an inch and a half tall.
You may have seen her before,in a post I did on the things I make. She also appeared on Tammy World's shoulder in a World Doll Day post.

This shows you how small she is.

But she deserved her own day.

The metal thing is a stand I made for her, but she's not using it.

She has loads of curls on the back of her head. I hope I'm remembering how I made those correctly, because I like the  way they look. She is made of polymer clay, and painted to look like an old fashioned china doll. She has jointed arms and legs,so her arms can be posed and she can sit down,as long as her dress doesn't push her back up!

She has a petticoat and lace pantaloons. Her shoes are painted on.
That's Day 190. See you tomorrow for another doll.

Doll-a-Day 2019 #119: A Doll of My Own Making: Patty

Today we're looking at this little lady.

Her name is Patty. She has a wooden head and a felt covered wire armature, so she can be posed. She can bend her arms and legs and sit down.

Her dress has a heart shaped pocket.
I made Patty a few years ago. She sold on Etsy,so I miss her!

She's only about 2 inches tall.  Her cloth clothes aren't removable, and her shoes are painted on.

I decided to leave her with just a ponytail because I liked her that way.

I really hate letting go of the dolls I make! But the intention was to earn some money instead of sitting at home not earning money. I was a stay at home mom while my kids were growing up. They were spaced 4 years apart, accidentally. I don't like the idea of leaving even a 12 year old home alone, or watching other smaller kids. I also liked being home in case the kids got sick and had to be taken care of. When the kids were really small school still allowed the kids to celebrate birthdays, with parents bringing in a cake. I spent a lot of time at school as a 'room mother', helping out with holiday parties and Easter egg hunts. When the kids got older I also had my dad to take care of. He had dementia, and he lived with us for almost 3 years before he had to go in the nursing home. By the time he went in the nursing home, Emma was at college and Fuzz had a job. With only one vehicle, that meant that I had to drive Ken to work at 4,so I had the car to drive Fuzz to work at 9. That meant I had to go pick Ken up at 2 AM. That didn't leave much time for a job of my own, even if I had been ok with leaving Ivy, at 10 or 11 years old, home alone. I didn't like leaving her alone long enough to pick Ken up. By the time all that got sorted out my shoulders were so bad I'm not sure I could have held a job. Now days I can't be on my feet for long periods of time without intense back pain. So the miniature making was supposed to help bring some money in, as my 'job'. I got discouraged though, because it took so long to make a significant amount of stuff to sell, and then it took a while to sell it. I did pretty well on Etsy, but it took a while. I was also discouraged by the times I took my stuff to doll or miniature shows and people looked at it and said how good it was, but then nobody bought anything. Tables at shows are too expensive anyway. I had to give shows up because I couldn't make a profit after table costs. So I should make more things to sell, but I began to wonder if it was worth it. My eyes had gotten worse too. What do you think? I've posted quite a few of the dolls I've made. (You can look under 'Dolls of my own making' in the side bar.) What do you think? Should I make more? Should I change the type of dolls I make? (I've made at least three different kinds: dolls like this one, with wooden heads and felt covered wire armatures, polymer clay dolls, and cloth dolls.)

Doll-A-Day 2019 #102: A Doll of My Own Making: Little Girl in Pink

I'm still feeling the effects of whatever this is that I have. I am still doing the constant nose blowing and coughing. Still doing a lot of sleeping too, when I'm not coughing! Things are improving little by little. I ate more yesterday than I have for ages, but today I didn't have much. I am keeping up with my liquids though, so that's something.
Today's doll is one of my favourites of the dolls I made myself. She's this little girl.

She measures just under 2 inches tall.

Like all of the dolls I made in this style, she has a wooden head, which doesn't turn...

...and a felt covered wire armature, so she can sit, stand, and bend her arms and legs.

The original idea when I started making these dolls was that they had faces like old fashioned china dolls, thus the pink spot cheeks.

She has a lace collar and lace trim on her sleeves.

Her sash does tie in the back.

Her clothes aren't removable. She's way too small, and I don't have the talent for that!

Her shoes and socks are painted on.

Her hair is tied with ribbon.

She needs some hair spray!
As you can sort of tell from the pictures, she has little thumbs.

I've always imagined making her brother,a little red haired boy wearing an sailor suit.

That's it for today. See you again tomorrow for another doll.

Trade With a Flickr Buddy

I am still going to post part two of my flea market trip. First though,I am about to mail a package I put together for a trade with a Flickr friend in Finland. I thought I'd show you what I put together for her. (So if you're reading this Odd Mod,stop now! Spoilers ahead!)
I love doing trades. You never know what you're going to get, especially with traders from far away. Odd Mod is one of my favourite Flickr people. (You can check her out on Flickr HERE.) She has the most AMAZING 1/6 scale doll house EVER. Her doll house looks like a real house in her photos, and she has regular characters that live there that she manages to pose very realistically. She saw the barbecue grill I got at Target, and asked me if I could send her one. So we decided to do a trade. My problem was, she has such a great doll house, with the greatest miniatures of EVERYTHING anybody could want. I was having trouble finding anything I thought was good enough for her! The other problem was finding something she didn't already have! That fridge magnet dust buster is great, and I have two of them, but I looked through her photos again and there was hers on the wall of the doll house kitchen!
So here's what I managed to round up for her. Keep in mind all this stuff is 1/6 scale. First,of course, is her barbecue grill.

I added one of  the Mexican rugs I got in Texas back in April.

The orange one.
And the little set of maracas I bought there too.

I have several of this particular mini basket. The weave is really tiny and the lid really comes off.

I also had to think of things that would fit in her house stylistically too. This Native America 'blanket' may not be her style,so she doesn't have to use it if she doesn't like it. It makes nice packing though.

This tiny cameo would make a nice necklace or decoration for the house.

I included a sweater ornament that has had the hanger removed for wearing.

This fan is a pencil sharpener.

You've seen these tiny real working desk lamps on the blog before. I thought this red one would look great in her doll 'Manna's room.

This little Merry Christmas sign looks like the ones I remember  from when I was a kid.

This little ring toss set came from somebody's Christmas cracker one year. There are a few of them around the house because we have a lot of the same crackers.

Speaking of Christmas, there's this eensy soldier.

These little dinosaurs were sold in plastic eggs at the grocery store a few years ago.

This picture frame is for a necklace or charm bracelet.

I guess she can use this little wooden gavel if her characters go to court or an auction! That's not so far fetched. They held their own auction once. (You can see that on her Flickr  HERE.)

I wanted to send something that was really 'Ohio', so  made this Ohio State pillow. It may not fit her decor, but hopefully she'll find a spot for it.

Looking at this stuff,I'm not very impressed. In fact, her house, and everything in it, is so cool,I feel like I can't find anything good enough. She has a lot of great things in her house that she made, or her mom or husband made. She mentioned the possibility of her husband making something for me. I had been thinking about making something for her, but that decided it. She recently got a one of a kind Pippi Longstocking doll, made from a Midi Blythe head and an 8" articulated body. So I made her this Pippi doll, dressed like hers.

I'm disappointed in Pippi too,as I usually am when I make something.

I feel like I learned from my mistakes making her and if I had time I should make a better one for Odd Mod.

But she already mailed my package, and we agreed to send them around the end of July. The other thing preventing me from making another Pippi right now is,the weather is getting hot again. You might be thinking,"Huh? What does the weather have to do with anything?" Well, a lot. I don't have air conditioning, and Pippi is made of polymer clay. When the weather is really hot the clay just practically melts in my hands, and it's been nearly 100 degrees here lately. Luckily we had a cool spell this past week and I was able to get her made one nice, cool day. I finished her yesterday.
There's something you might not realize from these pictures. Pippi is only 1 & 1/4 inches tall.

I have to hope that maybe she only looks questionable to me because she's so magnified.

Every little flaw shows up way worse than it is...maybe?
She has a wire armature, so she's poseable.

She even has one rumpled stocking.

She's the miniature version of Odd Mod's Pippi.

One of the dolls in her doll house also has a doll collection. I thought mini Pippi could be part of that collection.

You can see the real thing on Odd Mod's Flickr HERE.

My leeks are seeding. As usual, they are seeding without getting big enough to eat first.

So that's my trade. I'll show you what I got in return when it arrives.
