Doll-A-Day 2023 #272: Mini Brands Disney Dolls

I said I bought a few things at the toy show, and today we're going to look at a few of the 'few'. One of the dealers had loose Mini Brands toys for $1 each, so I picked out a few.

Coincidentally, all the ones I picked turned out to be Disney toys. I also bought Emma a Belle, to go with her Beast, but I forgot to include her in the photos. I got a 'remote control' Mickey Mouse car, an Animator's Collection Alice doll...

...an Animator's Collection Anna from "Frozen"...

...and a Woody's Roundup Woody doll.

You can, of course, take the toys out of the packages, but the packages are part of the fun! They are complete copies of the full size packaging. They're even printed on the backs.

But Tammy World thinks the best thing about them is, they are just her size.

The Animator's dolls aren't actually big enough to be in scale, as the real dolls are quite large. But they make good dolls for Tammy anyway. I have the full size Alice and Anna Animator's dolls, so it's fitting that Tammy has these. I have the Mini Brands Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie too, I think, so I needed Woody.

Even the little car would be perfect for Tammy, or maybe her smaller brother Gareth.

The remote might be a bit too small in her hand.

I love Mini Brands. I like the food Mini Brands too. I would love to get the Mini Brands Morningstar Farms sausage, because I actually eat Morningstar Farms products, including the sausage. (It's vegetarian sausage.)  But I can't afford to keep buying the blind packs and getting repeats. This way of getting them works well for me. This dealer happened to have them fora decent price. It's close to what you would pay for a Mini Brands ball in the store, since they cost about $5, and contain 5 things. But this way I get to pick and choose. The painting could be a little better on the dolls, but they aren't hand painted. That would make them a lot more expensive. I suppose the paint could be removed and I could hand paint them myself, if I was really that bothered. I'd have to unbox them to do that anyway. I just won't wear my glasses when I look at them!

Those are the dolls for today. Tomorrow we'll see another doll I shouldn't have bought!

Latest Store Nab, and a Request For Help

There's some serious stuff here, so please read to the end of the post.

Ken and I ventured out yesterday. Remember a while back I mentioned getting the Mini Brands display box from Target? The one that has the actual Mini Brands stuck on the front? Well guess what Target had yesterday?!

This is the latest Mini Brands display box, and...

...the latest Real Littles display box!

The great thing about these is, when they are empty, they throw them away, so they don' think anything about giving them to you. The bad thing, if you can find anything bad in getting free stuff, is, you can only get these particular ones free. They same ones are displayed on every box. As for Mini Brands, they are still making things in various scales.

The feta cheese is Barbie sized/1/6 scale/playscale.

By the way, Made to Move's hair has gotten nasty greasy! What's up with that?!

The Jello and cinnamon are more American Girl/18 inch doll sized though.

Here's a better view of the cinnamon.

The Real Littles aren't as realistic as the Mini Brands.

For one thing, the cereal box is short and squat. Family size box for playscale dolls?

And it took me a minute to figure out what the other thing is. A sandwich bag of Fruit Loops, I think.

As I said, Ken and I ventured out yesterday, and I'll be talking more about that in an upcoming post. Today I wanted to tell you a little story, so sit down. I'm going to get serious.

I have a confession first. I like to watch dumpster diving videos. For those of you who don't know what those are, they are YouTube videos by people who pick stuff out of dumpsters. Hey, one man's trash is another man's treasure...and somebody's video. People, and businesses, are very wasteful. They throw away so much useable stuff. I was raised by parents who grew up during the depression. My dad was always the 'I can buy another one' type. His family had had a little more money during the depression because his dad drew a pension. My mom though, was the 'don't waste anything' type. She got that from my grama, who saved everything in case she needed to use it or make something from it. So I learned not to waste what I have. Or what somebody else might have either. ("Don't throw that away! Somebody could use that!")

In any case, I enjoy Dumpster Diving videos, as long as I can stand the people doing them. One of my favourites on YouTube is Freakin Frugal. They dumpster dive mostly food from grocery store dumpsters, so that could get boring sometimes. But their videos are entertaining for the personalities of the couple who do the diving. I especially enjoy 'Frugal Mommy'. She has a great sense of humour and she's just goofy enough to strike me as somebody I could be friends with. And I don't say that about many people. I have often said to Ken while watching one of their videos, "I could hang out with her." (She's even Vegan, to my Vegetarian, so we could even eat together!) I've also said to Ken that he's very like 'Frugal Daddy', who is always eating something,(He's a meat eater, like Ken.), sometimes in large quantities, just like Ken! They also seem to be good people. They don't often mention it, and usually only if somebody asks, "What do you do with so much food? You can't possibly use it all.", but they donate a lot of what they get to homeless shelters, 'little food pantry' type spots, homeless people on the street, and friends and neighbors. Often they will also mention that clothes they find 'diving' will be added to their donations to the Vietnam Vets organization, and  toiletry things to the homeless shelters.

Recently there was a long gap in their video posting. I began to worry that maybe they had Covid-19. They have two little girls, (in spite of being only a couple of years younger than I am, which is 58.) I worried somebody was sick. Yesterday 'Frugal Daddy' posted a video where he explained what had happened. 'Frugal Mommy', whose real name is Amy, had recently been warming herself, with her back to the fireplace, while wearing an almost floor length skirt. Her skirt had caught fire, without her noticing. By the time she noticed, her skirt was ablaze, and started her polyester leggings burning as well. If you're interested in the details of what occured, you can watch the video where Frugal Daddy explains. To make the story short, in spite of the efforts of Amy and Duane, ('Frugal Daddy'), the clothes couldn't be extinguished, and before they could be removed Amy suffered second and third degree burns on most of her lower body. She was in the ICU burn unit of the hospital for 10 days. She had to have skin grafts. Duane is retired, and Amy retired from her job as a social worker a while back to be an at home mom to, their twin girls, (who are now 8 or 9 years old), while they were still young. Consequently, Amy has no insurance. The hospital bills have now surpassed $300,000. It has been recommended that Amy have occupational and physical therapy, which they are turning down because they can't afford it. They have, however, set up a Go Fund Me page to ask for help with the hospital bills only. If any of you feel you would like to help, please go to the Go Fund Me page using the link above, and make a donation.

Doll-A-Day 2019 #147: Napoleon and Surprise! 5 Surprise Mini Brands at Last!

I had an exhausting day today. Ken and I did almost all the yard work that has needed done all spring today. We took care of the overgrown yard,I pulled all the major weeds behind the patio area, and we both took turns raking, sweeping, and clearing up the crap that had gathered on the patio all winter. Now I need to finish pulling weeds and tidying up the flower beds, and trim the bushes and cut the dead limbs out of the trees..
After all that was done,Emma and her boyfriend, and Fuzz and his girlfriend came over, (and Ivy actually came outside!), and we had a cookout and played Cards Against Humanity until we got rained out.
Yes, I finally got some 5 Surprise Mini Brands! Ken made the score last Thursday or Friday. We'll get to that in the second half of the post. First of all, today's doll. He's not from the yard sale where I got the last two dolls you saw. I got it the same day, but at another yard sale. He's this guy.

He's a Napoleon Dynamite Pop Vinyl.

He's from the Pop Vinyl Pop! Movies series.

He seems to be in the middle of one of  his dance moves.

He has his glasses, which are actually a separately molded piece, and really have lenses.

He still wants you to Vote For Pedro.

Of course, Napoleon wouldn't go anywhere,(except to the dance.),without his snow boots.

In the commentary on the Napoleon Dynamite DVD,creator Jared Hess said that  he gave Napoleon the snow boots because he and his brother used to wear them, all year,in all weather, because they thought they looked cool.

They borrowed the boots Napoleon wears in the film from one of the crew, who wasn't aware of it. By the end of filming, the boots were worn out.
The figure is pretty good, but it's a Pop Vinyl, so it's missing one of the components it almost has to have to be Napoleon Dynamite: an open mouth.

My sister kept on to me to watch "Napoleon Dynamite" for ages,  telling me how funny it was. She usually thinks a lot of things are hilarious that aren't,so I was wary. Besides, I have to be in the mood for a movie, and if I'm pushed to watch something, I don't want to anyway. But I eventually watched it,and I loved it. All the characters at the school reminded me of people I went to school with.
And now on to the Mini Brands! Ken found 10 5 Surprise Mini Brands balls last week.

He brought them all home to me,with the understanding that I would take what I really wanted and try to recoup some of the loss by selling off my spares and rejects. So Here are the ones Tammy World and I couldn't do without.

I was really hoping for the Hellman's mayonnaise,the Q-Tips, the Breyer's ice cream,the baby wipes,and the Knorr's rice.

Ken couldn't understand why I thought these were so great. Look at them! They even have all the print on the back!

Breyer's was the only ice cream we bought for the kids when they were small, because it was all natural.

We are a family of Q-Tippers. Everybody but Ken, that is.

The Barbasol is a bit big for 1/6 scale, but for now at least, I'm keeping it.

I only eat Jif peanut butter, but they didn't do a Jif. I also am anti-Skippy after what I learned doing that Skippy doll post, but what can you do? Maybe in the doll world the peanut butter guy wasn't such a jerk.

I would rather have had Hershey's, my preferred brand of chocolate syrup, but I can deal with the Bosco. If it had been Fox's U-Bet though, that might have been a deal breaker. That stuff is pretty gross.

The shampoo is a little big too, but not too bad.

I love those Magnum bars,we do use Kikkoman's sometimes, and the others around here drink a lot of tea.
I got three shopping baskets, two shopping carts, and one shelving unit. Made to Move is showing you the size.

That means that 4 of the balls didn't have anything but the mini brands products. I would have liked that better anyway, but I thought every ball had at least one of the non-products. I will probably only keep the shopping baskets. They are a little small for 1'6 scale, but pretty close.

As for the stuff I was willing to give up,so I could keep what I wanted:

I had a few doubles, and one triple.

I actually got two of the rare items, the sparkly box of Dum Dums, and the sparkly canister of WarHeads.

So this stuff is going. I have t sort out how I should group it for sale. Any suggestions?

That's all. See you again tomorrow.
