Dolls For Sale! Pre Bitty Baby Gotz Doll and Magic Attic Megan Porcelain

Sometimes you have to let go of things! Here are a couple of things I'm letting go of.
Gotz Bitty Baby look alike doll.
UPDATE: The Gotz doll is sold.

This doll is marked Gotz Puppe. Bitty Baby were  molds used. (Goetz used the original American Girl molds before they were bought by Pleasant Company.) Rooted dark, curly hair and brown sleep eyes. White cloth body. Clean, no odors. Initials written in marker on the back of her head, right under her hair line, and name written on the side of her body. She'll come with her candy striped dress. I have no idea if it's an original Gotz dress. $30 plus shipping, which depends on your location.

Magic Attic Club Exclusive Megan Porcelain Doll

This is a really pretty porcelain version of Magic Attic's red head, Megan. She's wearing a cute outfit with a plaid skirt and red twin set, tights and black velveteen shoes. She has a porcelain head, lower arms, and legs. Her arms are wired for posing. She comes with her stand. She has never been removed from her original box, and still has all her restraints on, as well as her hair net. Her purse is in plastic. Her hang tag is on her. I got very excited when I found this doll, until I realized she's porcelain, not vinyl. I really don't like porcelain dolls, so since I need to thin things out, she's going to go. $30 plus shipping, which will depend on where you live.
That's all for this time. Hopefully these guys will find new homes and I will post some new ones soon.

A Happy Reunion: One Woman's Search for Her Favourite Childhood Doll

I received a message in my comments the other week that led to a story I have to share with you. The message was from a lady named Debbie, who had seen my post on  Doll-A-Day 94.

The star of Doll-A-Day 94 was this red haired girl with freckles, wearing a pretty flowered raincoat.
The doll was the same as her favourite doll from her childhood. Here's what she wrote:
"I have been looking for this doll for a bizillion years....it was my favourite doll when I was a little girl. Any chance you remember where you found it? Or would you be willing to part with it? Please let me know. Thanks so much!!!!"
I asked the lady to send me her email address and we would discuss the matter in private. She did, and we have exchanged several emails. I have several dolls with similar faces and bright orange hair from my own childhood. That and the pretty rain coat are what attracted me to 'her' doll. I wondered if it was the face that was the same as her old doll,or did hers actually have the raincoat too. She was pretty sure this was the same as her doll, raincoat and all.:
"It's funny you say that you have some other dolls very similar with bright orange hair. My old doll did have bright orange hair but the same or a similar face to this one.  I then thought maybe I remembered the hair wrong,  lol. I had named her Cindy but my Mom thought maybe she was already called Cindy when she got her for me.   I have been looking for her for many many years but am going by memory as I don't have any pictures of her.  :( "

I had described the raincoat girl as having 'strawberry blonde' hair. I sent her some pictures of other dolls with a similar face and bright orange hair in case one was closer to her old doll. She was still pretty sure it was the same doll though.
"I think I could be remembering Cindy's hair being brighter but in reality I think it's like the flowered raincoat doll. I got the doll when I was very wee so not sure what outfit she originally came in and then one day I decided in my youthful non-wisdom to sell her at a garage sale. I've been searching practically my whole adult life for her. And this is the closet I've been ever able to find!" (It's just as I always say: Beware all you teens who can't wait to sell your childhood loves for a dollar here and there! Someday you may regret it!)_
I had another look at raincoat girl's hair, and it was a brighter orange than I thought. So yay! Even closer!

I was curious as to how she finally managed to spot my pictures and find 'her' doll after all these years. Here's what she said:
Basically I have been googling "red or orange hair dolls 1960s" and it brought up a bunch of pictures as well as sites.  I was looking through the pictures and came across the doll and then clicked and found your website. Very excited as it was the doll I remembered.  When I showed my brother the picture he immediately remembered my doll Cindy.  It was fantastic.  I have spent many years going antiquing and to doll shows and not finding anything close to what I remembered about my doll. Until now.

Wow! I am thrilled to be able to reunite her with her 'lost love'!  "Cindy's" new owner is pretty thrilled too.:
"This is sooooo exciting.  I can't wait to see my pretty doll again in person!"
Today I got an email from Debbie saying 'Cindy' had arrived home at last.

We got the doll today. Yay!!! I'm so happy to have her here. Thanks so very much again. I can't

thank you enough for reuniting me with "Cindy".

She even sent me a picture of the two of them, together again:
What a wonderful story! I'm so happy I got to be a part of it!

Doll-A-Day 94: Little Girl in Flowered Raincoat

Well, Ken seems to have fixed the problem and I can take the pictures off the camera again!
Today's doll is one of those cute little 60's dolls that you probably only see once and think "That's a cute doll.", but could never find again, because no one knows who made it.

She's about 6 inches tall, chubby, with a big head. I had several dolls similar to this one when I was a kid.

I don't remember where I got this doll. It was in the last few years. I love her raincoat.

The raincoat is made of thin, soft vinyl.

She is only wearing undies under it, and shoes and socks.

She has strawberry blonde hair and freckles.

Tomorrow is another Skipper Saturday. See you then.

Doll-A-Day 74: Skipper Saturday: Two Tone Auburn Skipper in Ship Ahoy

Well, the weather has swung back to Spring again, and this week's Skipper is ready for a day of boating.

This is a straight leg Skipper with amazing two tone dark auburn hair.

You may remember seeing her in a previous post when I first bought her.

I got her at a doll show, but from one of the shoppers. She sold me a case with Skippers that had belonged to her, and her sister. Both Skippers had very colourful lips, but as I suspected, the lips had been touched up, and I was debating on whether or not to try to remove the extra lip paint. I was very wary, since I didn't know if there was any paint underneath, and they looked pretty good the way they were.

I finally decided to remove the added paint. It came off with just water. She has perfect lips underneath, so all is well.
Her hair is super thick too.

Gad! If it isn't 'that one hair', it's those two! I need some hair gel or something. What do people use for this?

Ship Ahoy consists of the dress, vest, anklet socks, red flats, and accessories, including a plastic camera, (Hey Mattel, Tammy's camera is real metal and MILES more realistic!),a toy sailboat, and a couple of travel brochures.

Tomorrow we'll begin a week of reviews.See you then.

Doll-A-Day 73: Tammy in Fur 'N' Formal and A Yard Sale Tale

Today's doll is my only platinum Tammy.
Thanks go again to my friend Connie, who gave me the Tammy case.

She's wearing the Fur 'N' Formal fur stole and dress. I got the dress and the stole at two different places, and the doll at a third. You'll notice you don't see her feet. It's that dreaded 'no shoes' problem again. But I'm working on it. I just don't have any dress shoes.

This platinum blonde was part of a load of stuff I got at a yard sale...

Tammy's always look like they need some sleep. They have little bags under their eyes.
 Yes, it's a...

We have a local couple who go to a lot of auctions, so they have at least one sale every year, sometimes two. One year Emma and I went to their sale and while shopping their garage we spotted loads of dolls. There was a big wire rack filled with dolls, doll clothes, cases. We  could see a Tammy and Barbie feet.  Tammy's original gym suit and Ken's Sleeper Set pajamas were on little hangers hanging on the wire shelf. Emma and I found the owners and asked about the dolls, which we couldn't actually reach because there was a lot of stuff in between us and the wire racks. Well, she might as well have used thumb screws on us because the torture was just as bad. The stuff, she said, wasn't for sale, because they hadn't gone through it yet. Made sense, but don't SHOW me the stuff!
Anyway, new scene. It's the next year. Emma, Ken, our youngest, Ivy, and I go to a doll auction. We buy a few things, some of which I will let go so I can afford to keep what I really want. Emma and I stand, watching the Betsy McCalls go for hundreds of dollars. "Oh, she is so cute! I want a Betsy McCall!" Emma says. "Yes, me too, but look at those prices. We'll never get one of those." I say. Emma tells me that she drove past the place that had the not-for-sale dolls last year on her way home from work last night and it looked like they were getting ready to have a sale. We make a note to get up early and check it out in the morning.
In the morning, for some forgotten reason, we don't get out quite as early as we should. When we do we head straight for the place. Their sale is indeed on. We walk into the driveway and there sit the metal racks. They look untouched. Even the Tammy gym suit and the Ken pajamas are still hanging on their little hangers on the shelf. We start taking things off the racks and making piles. A Fashion Queen Barbie for me. The wigs for Emma. A Bubble cut Barbie for me,a case of stuff for Emma. Blonde crew cut Kens for both of us. Platinum Tammy's for both of us.

Her hair is so curly!
A titian straight leg Skipper for me. A Toni doll for Emma.A Miss Revlon wanna-be for me, along with loads of gorgeous handmade clothes...

... Barbie accessories, including Barbie's dominoes,a few pieces of clothing, including the hat from Studio Tour, and the ever elusive Cap n' Crunch bosun whistle----for each of us. I took a paper bag off the shelf and looked in. Sleeping in the bag (On account of she was on her back so her eyes were closed.) was a sweet little brunette Betsy McCall. (You can see here in all her glory HERE.)She's missing the lower half of one leg, but when we go through the stuff I find we have both her barrettes, her bridal dress, veil, and white shoes, along with the vest from Pony Pals. (We realize Emma bought the rest of Pony Pals in the box at one of their previous sales.) Emma and I made pretty much a clean sweep of the shelves between us. Our final combined cost? $65.

I had another platinum Tammy that I bought in a shoe box full of grungy dolls and stuff at an antique store on vacation once. I sold her to help finance the vacation. This Tammy is actually the nicer of the two anyway.

A closer look at the case graphics.
See you tomorrow for Skipper Saturday.
