Doll-A-Day 2023 #97: Superstar Barbie

I have been working on a post all day, but I had a crushing headache and it slowed me down. I got very little done.  Tomorrow I have to be up super early to head to my sister's and pick her up to go to the doll show. So at this point, it's a quick post. But I promise, I have some beautiful and interesting dolls coming up! I took over 300 pictures yesterday, so be watching for some good posts. I'll also have a review coming up! So there's lot to look forward to.

Today's doll isn't the one you might be thinking of. It's Superstar Barbie, but not the original, from 1977, or the 1988 Superstar Barbie, or even the reissue of the 1977 Superstar, produced in 2022. This iss the much lesser known 1993 Superstar Barbie.

This Superstar Barbie was a Walmart exclusive.

And a 'Special Edition', which means squat. There were millions made, considering it was sold at all Walmarts.

She had the big hair and big dress that were so popular in 1993.

People were all over collecting this kind of doll. These dolls did absolutely nothing for me. I had no interest in them whatsoever. We did sell them though. In those days, not  everybody lived near a Walmart. I know! Hard to believe, huh?!

Barbie was pictured winning the big award at the  'movie awards ceremony'. (Academy Award and Oscars are copyright you know!) She came with her little statuette...which of course, also looks like her.

She also came from the house, in the huge box of boxed Barbies that were amazingly saved by a metal tray, and some styrofoam that was in the bottom of the box. You will have read that story a couple of times by now at least! And yes, she needs to go away. If you are interested in her, let me know in the comments, along with your contact information.

Tomorrow a more detailed post on an interesting doll. I promise.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #83: Country Western Star Barbie-Two Ways!

Today's doll is two, but also a quick post because I also have a the Doll Book of the Month post due today. So, here they are, Country Western Star Barbie.

This doll was a Walmart Special Edition, exclusive to Walmart stores, back when stores all wanted to have their own exclusive Barbie doll, because Barbie was the in thing at the time.

They even bothered to do two versions of this doll, a blonde, and a brunette.

The blonde has the Superstar Barbie face.

But the brunette has the Teresa head sculpt.

I always loved this Teresa face.

While the blonde has blue eyes, the brunette has bright green eyes.

But they both have the same outfit and accessories.

She comes with a microphone, and the outfit includes a pink plastic cowgirl hat and boots...

...a dress with gold fringed blouse...

...and a bright, flowered skirt with a ruffled hem.

These girls need to leave. They were rescued from The House of Fire, and are in perfect condition. If anybody is interested, let me know.

  Tomorrow we'll see another doll.

Doll-A-Day 2023 #74: Pretty Choices Barbie

I know. I didn't post yesterday. I was sick. Throwing up and worse. You get the idea. I slept most of the day. So now I am a full week behind for the year. So i figured I'd better get something up today. I do feel better, and no more throwing up, etc., but this is one of those times when it's good I have some pictures to fall back on. Today's doll is one from the giant box of boxed Barbies that survived a soaking wet box due to thick styrofoam packing in the bottom of the box, and a vintage metal tray in the top of the box. The tray caught the water going in, and the styrofoam protected the contents from whatever standing water was below. In any case, she's Pretty Choices Barbie.

This doll is from 1996, the heyday of Barbie collecting.

This is actually the harder to find version, with the brunette hair. Most of them had blonde hair.

She has the Superstar head sculpt. It was popular for years, but personally, I never liked it.

The extra long hair tells you this was a doll intended for hair play. As such, she came with extra do dads for her hair.

She wears a ridiculously short dress. and panty hose.

This was the era when every store wanted to jump on the Barbie band wagon by having their own exclusive Barbie dolls. Stores like K-Mart, Service Merchandise, Toys R Us, and, in this case, Walmart, had dolls that were sold only in their stores. This particular doll also contributed to Children's Miracle Network with it's sales.

That's the doll for today. I'll get back to normal tomorrow, (I hope.) See you then.
