Doll-A-Day 2017 #329: Shrunken Saturday:Kim

  Today's Shrunken Saturday doll is another one I discovered in the box of Emma's stuff I found while going through all our stuff.

This is her original dress, and she should have red shoes.

She's made by Uneeda.

From what I can find, she is either Kim or Dana, from 1970. Kim and Dana were both Uneeda dolls that came in this dress, and have the same special feature.

She's only 5" tall.

"Hey! Whatta ya mean 'only'?!"

But, tiny as she is, she has a grow hair feature!

I discovered this while I was combing her hair to tidy her up a little for her photo shoot.

She has a couple of pony tails. One is shorter than the other.  As I was combing her hair I discovered that the longer one pulls up out of her head.

That's when I realized she had growing hair. There is a tiny metal piece in the bottom of one of her feet that can be pulled out, to draw the hair back in.

There is actually a spot on the bottom of the other foot that looks like maybe they thought about making her with two reels and making the other ponytail 'grow' and retract.

   Unfortunately, the second time I tried to pull her ponytail up,the string or elastic disintegrated! I am going to attempt to repair her. 
Apparently Kim had an extensive wardrobe and even a case made for her. There was another Uneeda grow hair doll the same size as Kim and Dana, named Miki. She may have been made as a friend for Kim,or there may have been no connection. I don't know.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #328:The Witch (From Snow White)

  Ok. I'm playing catch up again. I had this post almost ready to go, when my battery died. It was really late,so I thought,forget it. I'll post it tomorrow! So here it is.

 Well, the girls and I went to see Squeeze tonight.

They still sound great. They did some songs from the new album and plenty of great old songs. Emma and I went to see Glenn Tilbrook solo a couple of years ago,but this was the first time I had seen Squeeze since 1987. (Of course, most of the band was different then, but then,to make it Squeeze mainly requires the presence of Glenn and Chris Difford,and they were both there in '87 and tonight. So that counts.)
  Today's doll is this beauty.

She's just called 'The Witch on her original box.

And she would have looked like this in her box.

She's 'The Witch' from "Snow White".

She was made by Bikin in 1988.

She's obviously a cheap doll, but done pretty well. Look at her knobbly knuckles, just like in the movie.

She looks kind of strange because she has a pale,witchy head, on a normal,pink coloured fashion doll body.

Check out that nose wart.

She has tiny little fashion doll feet with some black witch shoes.

Don't ask me what the hunk of extra plastic on the back is. Maybe she's wearing spurs.

She actually has a polyester dress on under that cloak.

I don't think she came with a basket, from looking at the boxed doll picture,but someone apparently decided she needed one. (Good idea actually.)

Although they should have tied it on the other side of her hand.

 

There were other dolls in this series of course,including Snow White,the Evil Queen, and the 7 Dwarves, if I remember correctly.

Emma bought this one somewhere,at a yard sale probably. But I remember these dolls quite well. When Emma was tiny,(She was born in 1991.) there were still plenty of them sitting around in Toys R Us. Those were the days. the stores weren't in such a hurry to clearance things and get rid of them. Things lingered around for ages and there was always the chance you'd find something older and interesting. These days it's 'sell that thing or get it out of here'.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #327: Jean Jeans Paper Dolls

  I hope all those in the U.S. had a nice Thanksgiving. Today's doll,continuing our paper doll theme, is Jean Jeans.

No, I never heard of her before either.

These paper dolls were made by Whitman (Of course!) in 1975.

Jean Jeans loves a certain type of fabric. Can you guess what it is?!

She has a complete wardrobe which is super heavy on the,you guessed it,JEANS!

I have one more set of paper dolls from this box of them that I somehow ended up with from an auction or somewhere. I'm going to save that set for a theme week down the road. but I wanted to show you the box. I love when I get things with messages and things from the original child owners. Some of them are really funny, like the shoe box of stuff I got at a yard sale that bore the warning,'Top Secret Rocks! Do Not Open!',and some are sweet. This box commemorates the love a little girl named Sara had for a boy named Teyo, and how someone named Mimi was  'so mean' to someone named Amy.

Doll-A-Day 2017 #326: Wispy Walker Paper Dolls

  Today's paper doll set is this one.

They're Wispy Walker paper dolls.

Wispy Walker,by Uneeda, was one of those 'hold my hand and I walk with you' dolls that were almost 3 feet tall. They were around forever,(and Amazon has a Wispy right now, which is supposed to be part of the Uneeda Classic Collction' of repro Uneeda dolls.),but I didn't realize Wispy Walker was popular enough to warrant it's own paper doll set.

These were made by,who else,Whitman,in 1976.
There are some cute outfits amongst the very 70's fare.

On the other hand...

As some of you may know, love sailor suits, so of course,I picked this one to have her try on.

There is even a granny dress,which was a popular style of the era.

Is the red one a dress or a nightgown though?

Eww. I think my sister had those ugly pants!

 
 I wore those horrible 70's clothes too as a kid.

 I don't think I thought much about fashion at the time!
 

From the look of that top outfit, neither did Wispy!

I'm not sure how complete this  set is,since a lot of the clothes had been cut. That's the other thing that always annoyed me about paper dolls,(other than the clothes never staying on.): you have to cut all those clothes out! All those little ruffles and stuff! It took forever. You really had to  work for that toy! Not worth it! (I still bought them for my kids though! What was I thinking?)
