Recent 1/6 Scale Dolls and Goodies From Goodwill

Having health problems recently means I haven't been out much. I have been very few places, and haven't even stopped at my favourite Goodwill most of the times I have happened to be near it. I have stopped a few times, especially lately, since I have been feeling better. I have made two hauls in the past week or so,and only just brought one in from the van that has been sitting in there ever since before  I started feeling so awful! So, to start with some of the latest 1/6 scale finds, here's what I was lucky enough to get the last couple of times I stopped at my favourite Goodwill.
Any time you're lucky enough to find fully dressed dolls at Goodwill, especially with their shoes, it's a good day! These girls were waiting for me.

The bigger girls were $1 each, and the Strawberry Shortcake Lemon Meringue was 50 cents.
Disney Descendants  Signature Evie Isle of the Lost doll, complete with her shoes.

Disney Descendants Signature  Mal Isle of the Lost doll. She's wearing her complete outfit too.

Ever After High Ashlynne Ella.

This is the one from the set that came with the Hunter Huntsman doll I got at the flea market last fall. She was shoeless when I found her, but I found this one shoe floating around loose in the tub of dolls she was in, and put it on her, just because. It turned out to be hers! I didn't see the other one, but the tub was pretty full of dolls. Maybe it will turn up at some point. She does have a mark on her face I need to clean off, but it doesn't look like it will be a problem.

Ever After High Apple White. I have another one of these, which I showed you before, but this one is complete, including her bolero jacket, tights, and shoes.

This means I can use the other one to experiment with repainting a doll. Wednesday night Ken and I stopped at the same Goodwill on our way to Valentine's day dinner, and Ken spotted this for me!

It's Apple White's bed!

Plus it had some stuff in the drawer.

There was the little mirror that attaches to the bed in the drawer too.

I also got another Ever After High doll, Raven Queen.

This one is Getting Fairest. I'm amazed she still had her shoes, considering they are mules, and have no rubber bands on them.
This little Strawberry Shortcake friend,Lemon Meringue even has her hair do dad.

And I got yet another Tinkerbell! And she's different from any of my others! How many millions of these things have they made?!

This Chelsea friend is technically dressed, but her clothes are painted on. She even has her shoes though.

Speaking of shoes, remember I got a few Project MC2 dolls, but they had no shoes? Well somebody I brought home from Goodwill the other day ended up wearing these MC2 shoes...

I dropped one bringing the stuff to where I was photographing it,but I did get two.
I did get a few naked dolls too, that were too pretty to pass up. This Mulan is one.

This Mystery Squad Drew. (I already have one, so she won't be staying.) She needs some stuff removed from her face.

This tall Fashionista. I don't like the dress she comes in anyway. I do have to find her something to wear now though.

This especially pretty Disney Store Belle.

This Elsa. Which one is she?

This Barbie Swan Lake Fairy Queen doll with the Teresa head sculpt.

I have a couple, but this one still had her headband. When I got home I noticed part of it is broken off!
This Liv doll.

The jointy body is always handy.
I did pass up a Happy Family era Midge that was especially pretty, because I think I already have that one,and she had a chewed hand. Afterward I thought that I could have rebodied her and tried customizing her. Oh well...

When we were there Wednesday evening I found this Disney Store singing Coronation Anna.

She's pretty, but her song is really annoying.

I buy most Anna,Merida, and,to a lesser extent, most Tangled Rapunzel dolls I see. I wish Anna had had her clothes, but maybe I'll find them some day too.
I also found some really cool 1/6 scale accessories. For one thing, I saw this Barbie Smasheroo jacket laying on the shelf on the other side of the doll aisle!

It's the real vintage one, not the repro! I love this outfit. I have the repro doll and outfit, but the vintage one is so plush. This one has a small brown spot on the left shoulder, but I think I can probably clean that off. Other than that it's minty!
I got this owl picture frame, this electronic violin, and this Pirates of the Caribbean chest too.

I'm pretty sure this is just like the electronic violin I got for Emma when she was a kid. Emma plays the violin, and I bought it for her Emma the Doll.

It runs on batteries, and plays when the bow touches the strings.

I also got these three Melissa and Doug mini crates. They are slightly big for 1/6 scale, because they are about 6" wide, but still could be useful.

The top one has a board missing, but I'm thinking I will probably make something 1/6 scale out of them anyway. I'm not sure what yet, but I'm thinking. I could always fix the one with a popsicle stick too.
Way back when I was feeling really bad I was out to go to the doctor one day and felt the need to actually do something, since it had been so long since I had. One of the things we did was stop at Salvation Army. I found this mini plant pot and this wooden shelf.

The plant pot is definitely  1/6 scale, but the shelf could be 1/6 or 1/12. As a bonus,I already have one that matches it!
Those are my 1/6 scale goodies. Next time we'll look at some larger dolls I also got.

Feeling Better, But Feeling Sad

I have had so many things keeping me from posting lately. First of all, there was all this stuff with my heart. It now looks like it wasn't my heart that was the trouble. That's good news...I think.  I had to wear an overnight monitor last week, and today the doctor's office called to verify that nothing irregular showed up on the monitor. (I felt some flutterings that I was sure would show up on it,but they assure me that all was normal.) I think a lot of my problem was stress. I will say that I am feeling better too. I still have a stress test coming up, and there are still issues with my neck that need sorted out. I have to see the primary care doctor for that though. The nurse I saw at the cardiologists suggested I might need my thyroid ultrasounded. Now I have to get the doctor to have that done. He's a worthless dud though, which I have mentioned before. He's the one who makes all the fat cracks and has basically said that I'm fat because all I do is sit around all day and eat chocolates. He also pretty much said that nothing is exercise unless I have paid for a gym membership. (He said my mowing the yard for two hours with a non motorized push mower is not exercise! Let him try doing it!) I'd love to get another doctor, but I didn't think that was a good idea with all this stuff to be sorted out. So I still have to see him again,(Great!),and find out what's going on with my throat/neck.
I did find out tonight that the reason my cholesterol was higher the last time I had a blood test was probably because my thyroid had worsened. Apparently that happens. I wondered what was going on, because I haven't had meat or animal fat for 30 years next month, and my cholesterol has always been perfect.
Now that my heart is more or less normal and I am feeling better I should be posting more often.
My Aunt Edna, who was my mother's only sister, passed away last week. She was one of those cases of someone who pretty much gave up after going in a nursing home. She was quite old,(almost 86),but was in pretty good health before suddenly having a small stroke about a year ago. Out of my mom and her 4 siblings, there are now only two brothers left.

My aunt Edna, (Left) and my mom Lelia,(Right) with their brother Curtis's wife Janie.
Emma and I went to my aunt's funeral yesterday. I really don't believe in 'viewings'. It seems barbaric to me. I know lots of people of my aunt's generation approve of it, and her daughter held a viewing for her. I knew my dad believed in viewings, so I had one before his service. But I had the funeral directors make sure he was in a separate room where those who wanted to see him could, but those of us who didn't want to didn't have to. I just prefer not to see my loved ones that way. I would rather remember them as they were. Emma and I tried to avoid seeing my aunt, but it was difficult.

My Aunt Edna,(Left) with my cousin, and my mom on the right, with me. The little girl is my sister.
It's a shame that a lot of family members only see each other at funerals. I'm guilty of that too,as there were many second cousins there that I had never met or hadn't seen since they were tiny.
The saddest thing was that my aunt's two sons didn't even show up for the funeral. There had been attempts made to contact them and let them know that their mother had passed away, but they didn't respond. Nobody knows if they even found out she died, let alone when the funeral was. She raised them as a single mother for most of their childhoods. They were handfuls too. Nobody was really surprised they didn't show up,and their sister admitted she preferred it that way. (You may have read about these guys before, in part 2 of my posts on How I Coveted My Cousin's Toys.)
To return to happier thoughts,I have some fun Goodwill finds to share with you soon. See you then.

Vanessa Morrison of Van's Doll Treasures

A lot of you may have followed Vanessa Morrison of the blog Van's Doll Treasures.Vanessa was a cancer survivor, but had been having more problems. Her last post was last August. I had been very worried about her. Sadly, last week I found out that Vanessa passed away in October of last year. Many of you may already know this, but in case there are some of you who hadn't heard, I though I would pass on the news.
I never met Vanessa. We had only 'talked' through the 'comments' on our respective blogs. Still, I felt she was a part of my life, part of my internet 'crowd'. Vanessa's blog was one of the very first couple of blogs I followed. Her blog inspired me to start my own.
Vanessa was a talented lady. She made dioramas.designed and sewed doll clothes, made beautiful 1/6 scale furniture. At one point, determined to keep going, keep educating herself and adding to her range of talents, Vanessa took up woodworking, also and taught herself to cook. She seemed to be full of life and endlessly interested in making more of her life. How sad that we have lost her.

Boopsie,Cutesy,and Ginger

A few days ago I promised you a look at some recent Goodwill hauls. Well, here they are.

These guys all need some clean up.

These kids were in a bag together. I'm trying to fund a trip to England in the Spring,so I thought these kids might help. They aren't super valuable, but they are worth more than they cost. The tallest one is an 8" Ginger doll.

Ginger is marked on the back of her head.

Ginger was sold by Cosmopolitan in the 1950's. She looks similar to Vogue's Ginny because both were actually manufactured by Commonwealth Plastics.

This Ginger is a walker, and her head does still turn when her legs are moved. She has cloudy eyes,so I'll have to see if I can clean them,or if,like so many dolls of this era, the eyes are cloudy on the inside and can't be improved. I just haven't felt up to doing anything with her yet. They look like they might be ok though. Her sleep eyes open and close alright.

The big plastic baby is Boopsie.

Emma Goes To San Fransisco and Brings Me Goodies, But Maybe She Should Have Left My Heart There...

Well, I had my cardiologist appointment yesterday. He still doesn't know what's wrong with me. (My EKG last week at the other doctor's was normal.) My blood pressure was my usual low normal. I had had a really bad night the night before. My heart pounded harder than ever and actually hurt this time. I'm not sure it wasn't a small heart attack. I had some trouble breathing, but kept waiting for other symptoms or intense pain before heading off to the emergency room. But apart from a split second twinge here and there nothing else happened. It lasted about half and hour I'm guessing. I have to go back to the cardiologist on the 6th to be set up with an overnight monitor, since they only have two and they were both in use. Then I have an appointment for a stress test on the 16th. I had to wait three weeks for the cardiologist appointment. A person could die before getting sorted out these days. In the meantime,I have been prescribed some medicine to keep my heart from pounding so hard. It's actually for high blood pressure. I asked the doctor what it might do to me since my blood pressure runs low normal anyway. He said it might make me tired and occasionally dizzy, but he thought I should take it anyway. I've had three doses so far, and although I feel really awful still, and I had a couple of spells of breathing difficulty,no pounding! That has to be an improvement.
But,back to my Happy Place again.Emma took a trip to San Fransisco last week, and she brought me some goodies from her trip. She actually went specifically to go to a concert. It may seem a long way to go just to go to a concert, but this was something special, and,as I told Emma, she's young, has only herself and her cat Cowboy to be responsible for. What is she working so hard for, if she can't enjoy something once on a while? She can afford to, so why not? Emma is very into music. She works at a radio station and has her own radio show too. She has a gigantic record collection, and her CD collection isn't shabby either. Her two favourite bands are The Monkees and Death Cab For Cutie. Her trip to San Fransisco was to see a concert by Mike Nesimth of The Monkees and his First National Band, with special guest Ben Gibbard of Death Cab,who sang three songs with them.  I think it was completely worth it because she enjoyed it so much and made a memory of a lifetime. Emma was right against the stage and too close to film anything properly,so she was very excited to find that someone had posted videos online. Emma can clearly be seen enjoying the show,on the left, right in front of the stage at Ben Gibbard's feet.(She's the one with the ponytail and glasses.) She'll kill me, but if you'd like to hear Mike and Ben sing Mike's classic "Joanne",you can see the video (The first few seconds are blurry but it clears up.), HERE.
Emma went to film school in San Fransisco for two years, so she had some favourite places she wanted to go,including some record stores of course! (And she made a pretty good haul.) She also went to Japantown and Chinatown, and did a lot of walking. In Japantown she went to the Dasio store, where she bought me this:

It's perfect for 1/6 scale,or even slightly smaller.Eight inch When I Read I Dream Fern, otherwise known as Tammy World, who has the old Barbie sister Stacie body, tried it out for size.

Emma also bought me this outfit at Daiso.

It's made for Daiso's own brand of doll, which is similar to Licca Chan in look and size. Emma was thinking about it for my Cosima. (you can see Cosima HERE.) I thought it would be too big for Cosima,so Tammy tried it on.

She posed under duress, because she thinks it's way too short. (She is me as a kid, after all. My mom and sister always called me 'an old grama',because I refused to wear short shorts or dresses.) I would say the dress would perfectly fit Licca Chan .I would have tried it on my Licca Chan, but these pictures were all I was up to at the time. I had one of my J-Dolls handy, so I'm showing you how incredibly too short for her it is.

The shoes are way too small for Tammy though. They fit the J-Doll,and may fit Cosima.

The socks wouldn't even go on Tammy's feet, and will be way too big for Cosima, but fit the J-Doll perfectly.

I'm guessing they'll be thigh highs on the Licca Chan.

I think this cute change purse and pad of note paper came from Daiso too.

You may have gathered that I like pigs.
As I said, Emma did a lot of walking too,and happened to see a sign for a yard sale. She went and picked up this bunch of goodies for me.

The slip is a vintage Barbie one, and the pillow and apron are from Barbie Babysits. (See my post on that HERE.) And are those Tiny  Betsy McCall skates?!

I think they are! My Betsys can hardly wait to go skating! But who in the world wears those square socks?!
I was really drooping the day we picked Emma up from the airport. That was a bad day. But I was doing pretty well the day I drove Emma to the airport, and stopped off at my favourite Goodwill on the way back. Soon we'll see some goodies I got that day.
