Today's doll is a Rosebud Baby named Gold Star Rose.
The Rosebud dolls were made by Mattel, and the sculpts were later used for the Heart Family babies and the Teacher Barbie kids.

A 'beautifully elegant' baby. |
They were sold in 1974.
The back of her box pictures the six original Rosebud dolls. They are all named after real roses.
I previously posted about the
Pink Heather Rose doll, and my research then showed that there were seven dolls in the original Rosebud line, but the back of the box only shows six. There were also three later Rosebud dolls that were just given regular names.
I think this one is prettier than Pink Heather Rose.
She's so cute. She has a sort of Baby Beans type face. Her dress has a long ribbon on the front that was the bane of my existence while I was trying to take her pictures.
The ribbon had been folded upward in the box, and it kept trying to return that way every time I let go of it!

Holding the ribbon down for this one! |
These little dolls are about 4 and a half inches tall, and way too huge to be babies for Barbie sized dolls. Toddlers maybe, but they have curved chubby baby legs, so they can't stand.
There goes that ribbon again. You can see how curved her legs are here.
Her dress has a built in slip too.
But the thing that really stands out about this doll is her cute cute, and her brown eyes.
That's today's doll. See you tomorrow.
She is a cutie; I agree. Her eyes are so expressive. I feel like she wants to say something, like give me a cookie or pick me up.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with the cookie!
DeleteI think it's interesting seeing how Mattel re-used molds, and names, across different lines throughout their history. Using the Rosebud baby sculpts for the Heart Family dolls is one such example. I've also read that Mattel used the Max Steel body for 'Romance Novel' Ken, and that they created the Little Pretty Kitties line using molds from a set of Lady Lovely Locks pets while recycling some of the names from the She-Ra line.

And the Stacie kid bodies were recycled from the Lady Lovely Locks dolls too. They also used to recycle fabrics, back in the vintage Barbie era. If they ran out of a fabric they were using for a Barbie, Skipper, Tutti, or Kiddle doll, they'd reuse some fabric left over from other dolls or clothes. It makes for a lot of interesting variations, an drives collectors crazy, trying to get all the variations.
DeleteI have several Rosebuds and clones, including A Baby Gold Star Rose. She is the cutest, followed by A Scarlet Gem Rose and A Lavender Lace Rose. The mould used for A Baby Darling Rose, A Pink Heather Rose, the Heart Family toddlers and Barbie's Li'l Friends is not very cute...
ReplyDeleteI have two different A Baby Gold Star Rose dresses. One has something similar to a bib over the top of the dress, and the lace flower is attached to that...
Maybe the two dolls are from different countries and there were variations.
DeleteMaybe that is why
